Moutinho

if i was moutinho, i would not leave for spurs when i know i'm good enough for a club like utd, arsenal, or milan.

They might not be in for me now, but next summer for sure. On the other hand if i go to spurs this summer, i'll be stuck their until i'm 28-29.

Well, you're not.

It says Tottenham missed Moutinho's deal by 4 minutes. It's usually one of the best informed papers in regards to Porto.

Would be amazed if they didnt let the transfer happen because of 4 minutes, some deals didnt happen until late in the night?

Yeah, after reading it more carefully it sounds like bullshit. Awkwardly, all three sports newspapers (oJogo, Record, A Bola) give different reasons for why the transfer doesn't happen.

"Genius" Daniel Levy strikes again. No replacement again for Spurs best player. Well done.

I am glad Spurs didn't get this one.

Out of all the players they signed Moutinho would have been a real gem

I dont think Spurs have done as well as people are making out. Modric and VDV gone. Probably their first and second/third(depending on how you rate bale) best players gone. They have bought some decent player but none close to their level. Also the New goalie is a top keeper but Fridel was solid and its only really because he is so old they bought a new one.

I agree with this

If Moutinho had of moved the business would have looked alot better but as things are it is not that good when you look at who has left

I agree. Dempsey and Siggurdson aren't that great players IMO. Dembele, Lloris are pretty good players while jury is still out on Vertonghen. They're also ridiculously light on wingers, one injury to Bale and they're fecked.

If they'd got Moutinho and Remy, then it'd have been absolutely amazing but right now they've lost their best players and haven't replaced him.

And the idiots thinks he's done a great job this summer. Replace Modric with Dembele, VDV=Sigurdson+Dempsey, missed out on Moutinho..great job. Well done.

Well he's made a profit on an injury prone VDV, and signed 2 players who are plenty capable of getting goals and work harder too. Not bad business

33 league appearances last season out of 38.
28 league appearances out of around 35(he wasnt signed till deadline day)

If only some of our injury prone players could have such stats I would be ecstatic.

And what if United-level clubs don't want him? What's he supposed to do?

Don't know what you're trying to say. Van Der Vaart was far more influential in the Spurs side than Anderson or Cleverley were to us last season. Rio played 30 league games and I doubt any of those were less than 90 minutes.

He's got dodgy hamstrings and he looks like Paul Merson after he's had a few weeks off. Good player but they got good money for him and he was probably one of the highest earners.

They brought Dembele :wenger:

They've done well with or without Moutinho.

Dembele is not a proper replacement for Modric.

Dembele/Gylfi as a pair looks weaker to me than Modric/VDV.

It's hard to find players that play like Modric (deep line creator). Demeblele is a perfect replacement, he will offer more goals too, however obviously not as good on the ball. In VDV see Clint Dempsey who vastly outscored him last year. Why are Spurs weaker i can't see it? They still have a perfect balance.

If they had got Moutinho aswell i would have said they have vastly improved in squad depth.

There's absolutely no evidence that Dembele will offer more goals than Modric. If anything, Modric has been slightly more prolific in their respective time in England.

In Dembele/Modric's first 75 games in England they have scored the same amount of goals. (Only 8.) In 4 seasons at Tottenham Modric scored 17. It really depends where they play Dembele.

It depends. If you get the initial paperwork in to the FA by 23:00, the rest of the negotiations can go on for as long as it takes I believe.

Because goals aside, Modric is a vastly better player than Dembele. Maybe Dempsey/VDV will add up to be a bit better than VDV, but they have to prove it first.

Spurs apologist I see. Ifs and Buts isn't going to make them better.

Based on what exactly? He plays in a second rate league and has no experience elsewhere. Looked decent in the Euros but despite tha I doesn't seem that many sides were breaking Porto's door down trying to get him.

Spurs would have been a good move to a team seemingly on the up. It's at least a big a move as Arsenal or the average AC Milan side stripped of any decent players they had and playing in an average league.

arsenal and milan are so much bigger than spurs

Bigger clubs in terms of reputation perhaps, but both potentially heading backwards.

Serie A is nowhere near the standard it was and it wouldn't surprise me if Spurs finished above Arsenal this year.

Players care about where a club might be heading, and Spurs are showing a bit of ambition in appointing a young manager, a bloke who he's already played under and whose system he could have slotted straight into.

What??? I don't care about Spurs. Just giving an honest opinion. If i was a Spurs fan wouldn't be too dishearten with the squad they have, Maybe a top class striker would have been my main concern not the midfield.

Rumblings in different papers saying he could well be a target for us along with the thousand other supposed midfielders. Does anyone think we could realistically get him? Moyes seemed keen on bringing him to Everton in previous years, and he is only 27 even though it seems like he's been around for ages. Would he be as good a fit as other targets too?

He can play ball and would be a perfect stop gap which is what we need.

He's a class act. Very talented and tidy on the ball. Would waltz into the middle.

If we got him and Coentrao, would have a good Portuguese contingent again :)

Is Mendes his agent?

If we still had Quieroz here, deals like these would be a piece of cake, sad times.
