Moutinho

I meant to say, thanks for the info!

Glad to hear he's versatile.

Would you say he's better on the left than the right of a midfield 3?

He's right footed, if the internet is to be believed, and we have a left footed midfielder in Anderson whose style seems a good match, perhaps he'd play on the right with Anderson on the left with Carrick behind?

I didn't say we do, nor did I say we shouldn't sign him. We should, he just isn't top bracket player, that's all.

EDIT: Still about 3 levels better than Miguel 'I can't run and I'm as clumsy as drunk aunt at the wedding' Veloso obviously.

Horseshit.

It does not appear Porto midfielder Joao Moutinho will become the latest addition to Sir Alex Ferguson's Manchester United squad.

With Luka Modric looking likely to complete a move from Tottenham to Real Madrid, United have been heavily linked with Moutinho, a central figure in Portugal's run to the Euro 2012 semi-finals.

It has even been said the Old Trafford outfit have offered £20million for the 25-year-old.

However, despite claiming last week that he was still hopeful of adding to his squad prior ahead of the new Premier League season, it is understood Moutinho is not on Ferguson's wanted list.

The United boss has already signed one attacking midfielder this summer in the form of Japan international Shinji Kagawa, with another, Nick Powell, signed from Crewe with an eye to the future.

Even the exit of Park Ji-sung to QPR is not viewed as making space for Moutinho and, with doubts remaining over the career of Darren Fletcher, it would appear a more defensive-type player is required if Ferguson feels his midfield still requires strengthening.

However, as Ferguson has also said in the past that any deals that are not completed in the early weeks of the summer tend to drag on until the latter stages, it could well be there are no further additions when United head to South Africa on July 23 for the first leg of their lengthy pre-season tour.

In addition to matches in Durban and Cape Town, United will also visit China, before returning to Europe and matches in Norway, Sweden and Germany before they open their quest to reclaim the Premier League title from Manchester City with a visit to Everton on August 20.

He's all yours Spurs.

Where's that come from?

Moutinho is a deeplying playmaker not an ACM so he won't occupy the same position as either powell, Kagawa or park he plays more in the mould of modern day Scholes and would be a fantastic replacment for him now as he can't play more than 30 or so games per season.

For me if we are interested then that spells the end of Anderson's time at united as the SAF must finally have accepted defeat in the project to turn him into Scholes replacement.

I think the recent tradition of Portuguese players at United may weigh well in our favour.

Teamtalk are very measured on what they release and any speculation usually preceded with the words Paper talk.

The best part about making up a rumor about a player going to United is that you get to write another article a week later about 'discovering' it's not true!

So what sum would you expect the two players to be sold for?

Sid Lowe (who is usually decent on Spanish transfers) says he doesn't see Real paying huge money for Modric. I'd expect £30mil tops for the Croatian and somewhere around £25mil for Moutinho. Although we'll probably never know with undisclosed transfer fees becoming the norm.

Agreed. The prices you hear in the media for the likes of Modric and Bale are vastly inflated, much as Hulk's price is. They're just negotiating tactics by the various clubs to get the best possible deal.

Bola.net - Joao Moutinho in this week will fly to England for talks with one of the North London club, Tottenham . national team playmaker Portugal has become a target for Spurs to replace the likely departure of Luka Modric to Real Madrid . Spurs under new manager Andre Villas-Boas , had to get a deal for the player Porto was not heading to Manchester United who also wanted his services. Moutinho played very impressive when Caps Seleccao in the tournament Euro 2012 last. White Hart Lane does not yet have an agreement on prices to attract Moutinho from Dragao . But it is believed, the transfer is requested by 20 million pounds Porto. North London club itself forward, the price of 30 million pounds they have to offer in Madrid for Modric be realized. There is a possibility the Lilywhites will ask the player Los Blancos in addition, that Nuri Sahin or Esteban Granero . But it seems, Moutinho to Villas-Boas priority at this time. Spurs today has appointed Luis Martin to train the team. Martin has worked with young Moutinho of Sporting Lisbon. This is believed to make the quarterback is the sooner anchored to North London. Time for Gill to get to the airport

"the quarterback"

We don't have fecking quarterbacks in football, ffs.

Of course moutinho would improve us, I still maintain we should have signed him years ago when we had ties with Lisbon! The muppet in me would love him in our midfield but all we can do is wait and see what verge does

that username hurts my eyes

Wonder if our message to Spurs might be: 'Sell us Modric, and we'll leave-off trying to sign Moutinho'?

I'd think it's more likely we are being used as a negotiating tactic by Porto/his agent - it wouldn't surprise me if we were never interested, so if Spurs are in for him then I expect he'll end-up there.

AVB as confirmed that he would like to bring him to Spurs.

He wouldn't have said that unless the deal was very close to completion. Unless it's a last minute change of heart Moutinho is a done deal for Spurs.
