Duncan Castles trying to say PSG are trying to get him at the last minute. He needs to get these stories out of his system before he joins us and can't do them anymore I guess

Poor old Dunc, how's he going to manage to ballance his undying love for Jose with his unwavering commitment to his ABUism?

A poster from the newbies claimed that, after his (first?) stint with Chelsea, there was a newspaper in Portugal with an interview with Mourinho, in which he stated, that one of his long-term goals in football was to stay at Man Utd, like SAF, for a long time. Did anyone find anything on that? I can't seem to find it when Googling, was it just a ruse from the newbie?

Someone already posted that somewhere on this page.

I believe that is his dream. The challenge now is to fulfill it.

Will be interesting to see what kind of pull we have in the transfer market with Mourinho at the helm.

We will get a different type of player than what we've had recently.

Jose likes big powerful players for the most part, especially in midfield.
He also likes a target man, which is something we don't have at the moment and haven't had in a while.

1st of June. We'll agree terms but I'm going to hazard a guess that the compexities relate to the rumoured clause in Mourinho's contract that he can't work until a certain date.

Hopefully it's finalised tomorrow. Be a great bday present to me!

According to UK high court ruling a non-compete clause post employment is only valid up to 12 months. I don't think it would make sense for Chelsea to stipulate such clause from the day of his sacking (December 17th) to June 1st/17th or until the season ends for any competitor within the UK as there wouldn't be any realistic target club for him to join anyway which would just add an unnecessary compensation cost on top of his compensation for tearing up his then current contract.

From Jose's perspective it wouldn't make sense ruling himself out for one and a half to two seasons upon agreeing a non-compete clause, unless of course he was looking for job outside the UK. Which he probably wasn't, waiting silently for LVG to get sacked.
,
Edit: Bear in mind that his contract could be vastly different and I'm just openly speculating here.

Probably just trying to give the impression that we didn't negotiate with mourinho until van gaal was sacked. And probably that is the case.

Think we will round it off tomorrow.

Who's talking about one and a half to two seasons? The suggestion is that he had a non-compete clause for this season that he mutually agreed to for the terms of his settlement. He'll have been compensated for signing up with that clause. It makes sense from Chelsea's perspective. With a title winning squad it wasn't beyond the realms of possibility that they put together a good string of results and get back into European contention with over half the season to go and an FA Cup to play for. It makes sense to have a clause like that as any team he might sign for would obviously be having a similar season (hence parting with a manager) and as such would be direct competitors for a Europa League or with a huge amount of luck, Champions League.

It's not "good business" to install these sort of clauses, it's blindingly obvious. You're agreeing a massive pay off anyway so you're bound to put in terms that could be beneficial to you.

I hope they can wrap this up swiftly. I can understand the concerns of Sir Bobby regarding Mourinho and his reputation for being in and out of clubs relatively quickly, and this not being the United way. He developed under Sir Matt who was manager for 24 years and has seen Sir Alex develop the club over 26 years. So he is not used to being part of a club with a revolving door policy. However sadly the game has changed and we are unlikely to find a manager out there who will take over what he would feel as being 'long term'.
Personally I feel Diego Simeone would be the best choice out there for us. What he has done for Atletico to keep them consistently neck and neck with the big 2 in Spain has impressed me a lot. But I still think Mourinho would be a great appointment and I hope that if/ when he is appointed he will at least respect the opinions of the people who connect the club with its history - Sir Bobby and Sir Alex. And if he decides to stay, Giggsy too.

I'd argue that he's had the past few months to prepare his tactics. I'd say we'll see a lot of new ones.

Not fussed about when we put out a press release as long as I suspect that he has already started work. Hopefully some of the bid rumours are actually true.

Id love to get most of our work done before the end of the euros and put an end to the trend of every proposed United deal from superstar to backup goalkeeper becoming a "saga"

Yeah, I'd probably better not spend today glued to the internet as I fear we'll probably hear nothing

It looks like the contract will be sorted today and then Mourinho will be announced tomorrow or the latest by Friday.

Mourinho : Giggsy boy, can you make the defenders play tactical training a12-b1
Giggsy : er... wtf is that boss??
Mourinho : sigh..... "goes on for 1 hour explaining to giggs the whole a1-a30, b1-b30
Giggsy : er... i don't understand boss.
Mourinho : feck it, Rui... get a12-b1
Rui Faria : ok boss, would you want a c3 with that?

Surely if he hasn't signed anything before the sacking of LVG he's now in a position to take the piss with his contract?

I really hope we arent that stupid. But by all accounts, we've been negotiating for months now and have agreed a deal in principal.

I'm sure this sounded better in your head.

Terms are probably agreed in principle and all that's left to sort is the formalities.
