TBF any of our players who back LVG and don't want Jose can feck off. Probably the players that have let us down this season the ones talking the most, anyway.

Editor: 'So have you got a Mourinho story for ready for print'
Journalist: 'Mourinho? No, there's been no developments, think the contract signing is on tuesday'
E: 'But everyone wants to read about Mourinho'
J: 'I know but there is nothing to write, we don't have any information'
E: 'What about his transfer targets?'
J: 'What transfer targets?'
E: 'You know players he's going for'
J: 'We don't know any, not a lot I can do'
E: 'I guess you could just make them up out of thin air mainly based on players who have played for him in the past, are from his country, known previous targets from the last 10 years at any club or just players he been in the same stadium on one or more occasions'
J: 'Thanks boss, I'll have it ready in five'

A conversation that has just taken place in every newsroom in the country.

Certain members of the squad feel Mourinho will adopt a pragmatic approach at Old Trafford similar to Van Gaal’s much maligned tactics.

It proved to be the correct approach in the big matches under LVG - that was one of the main things he turned around after Moyes. Mourinho used a similar approach was very successful with it, there's a reason he had such a strong record against Fergie. Just the rest that he needs to fix. Not the right attitude, want our players to want to win not just get their freedom.

With the senior players refusing to accept criticism from the manager, I wonder how much of the problem is LVG?

Anyway, I hope Mourinho or whoever the new manager is to be utterly ruthless and cull these bunch of senior citizens with the delicate egos. These guys are suppose to lead the youth not sow discord.

Same story in the Independent too.

How do all 3 of them have the exact same story at the same time?

When Rooney was attempting to leave, all the papers had the same story appear at 10 pm one evening. Later Daniel Taylor of the Guardian gave away that Rooney's agent had briefed the press on the matter. Same set of journalists (who in most instances have since been promoted to being senior football correspondents for their respective papers or have moved into more senior jobs at other papers) are reporting this story, not the current group who follow United and City on a regular basis.

Someone with an agenda handed the media this story. I'd say Rooney through his agent but Giggs would also be a candidate. Can't imagine any of the others would be so desperate to get the info out. They might talk of one journalist but I doubt they have a list. Rooney needs to keep the media onside in order to get in the England team. On form his place in the team is very much in jeopardy.

I don't think Van Gaal's playing style helped. When it's a well known fact, backed by statistics, that you're making a lot of backward passes and scoring less goals compared to the rest of the league, and struggling to even get in fourth place, it's hard for any set of players to have faith in the approach the manager has set.

I'd imagine if we were near the top throughout the season, putting up one nil wins, there'd be less unrest because it seems to be working.

This is why I am actually apprehensive about Mourinho. I don't think he plays negative football, but I think he thrives on negativity to succeed. He harangues officials, he picks fights with people, sometimes his own players and staff even. All this is good when things are going well but when they're not, not many would want to follow him down the path. This is evident by the way he usually leaves his clubs. People just get tired of his nonsense and feel that there are better ways.

*But I feel that he might just be a necessary evil, at this point.

His wages keep going up every day
We were allegedly paying him £4m not to go to any other club when there was no other top club to go to. It's well known he's wanted the Utd job for years so even if there was a sniff of it why would he take another job and forego the chance of Utd?

If we did indeed do that it was a poor, poor piece of business.

Very interesting read that Guardian article. Seems to mention a lot of stuff that seemed to rumured all season.

Would like to know what players were against Mourinho in favour of Giggs (Rooney and Carrick no doubt).

For some reason I'm expecting a massive shit storm further down the line about what was actually going on behind the scenes at this club this season.
If Mourinho knows what's good for him - he'll make it his business to find out and tell Woodward in no uncertain terms that they've got to go. This sort of attitude partly hampered us this season.. I don't want us dealing with this next season as well - especially with a volatile character like Mourinho. It'll turn into a nightmare probably and affect our performances on the pitch - which is all that matters at the end of the day.

Giggs just needs to go. Can't stomach the man and I can't stomach the fact he thinks he is entitled to the Manchester United managers job.

Mourinho worked with Sir Bobby Robson in the 90s but didn't expect the managerial jobs to be handed to him. He left and made a name for himself. He's earned this job. Go do the fecking same Ryan.

Scouted some other teams' forums and this seems to be the general consensus among them:

Arsenal
Surprised that a "class" club like us would sign a "classless ****" as manager.
Generally worried and seemed resigned to the fact that they'll lose their fixtures against us.

Chelsea
Most don't resent Mou but felt that he had always wanted this job
Think that he will be winning trophies here

City
Don't seem to be worried (probably because they have Pep)
Mostly laughing at us for our treatment of LVG

Liverpool

Think we're desperate for resorting to signing Mou and hate us all the more now
Downplaying his previous achievements and think he's overrated
Thinks he will struggle to get top 4 here

Really??? Our most successful player ever, a true one club player and responsible for some of the most exciting football I've had the pleasure to see. Apart from being unfaithful to his wife and wanting the United job (who wouldn't want it), what exactly has he done to upset you so much?

Well today is probably the day. I'm sure the Glazers, Ed, and Van Gaal haven't got much on today, so
may as well get together and thrash out a compensation package.

Interesting piece in the Guardian by Daniel Taylor:

https://www.theguardian.com/footbal...an-gaal-manchester-united-players-near-mutiny

This kind of worries me a bit because by the sounds of it we have a squad full of players who don't like being criticised or held accountable and who can't errr boil eggs. Also note that the Hoek/De Gea relationship isn't as great as it sounds. I'm a bit worried that most managers will struggle with a set of players like that.

This article is shocking on so many levels. It also assures me that our best performances came from players not giving a single feck what the Idiot intrsuted them to play

Be interesting to see once all done whether the claim made back in January about him sending a dosier about how he would improve Utd etc was actually true- think it was Miguel Delaney for espn who made the claim originally?

Would love for us to get Marquinhos, Ibrahimovic and Higuian.

You aren't half sugar coating it there aren't you? Cheated on his wife for 8 years with HIS BROTHERS WIFE and countless others no doubt, I seen something in the paper 2 weeks ago even.

Who do you bench then, Martial and Rashford? Or do you really think Ibra and Higuain will sit on the bench?

Rashford shouldn't be a starter next season. We shouldn't be relying on 19 year old to get us 30 goals a season. Should definitely sign Ibra and two wingers.

I'd bench Rashford. There are plently of games to keep everyone happy, and I don't think we can put all our eggs on the Ibra basket without a proven goalscorer alongside him (purely because he's quite old and might have higher risk of injury). Rashford is young, he will get sufficient experience regardless imo.

I'm resigned to us getting Ibrahimovic, but I think Higuain suits us better. If given the choice I'd be one of the few that opts for the latter.

To be fair they always think we'd struggle every year, even under Fergie

You could add Moyes there too.

Dont worry Im over it. Thats why I came on here to vent it. You have to agree its pretty tasteless. Someone wins the cup and their barely off the stage after lifting it and all the sports stories are about the next man in. Shows what scum a lot of sports journalists are imo.
I expect no less in the gutter of the premier league, morals and values long vanished for the pursuit of money.

Lol, without taking any note of other clubs' forums at all (except the RAWK thread here on the caf) that's pretty much exactly what I expected the consensus to be.

Why does his age matter? If he's good enough he's old enough, a cliché but nonetheless entirely true.

sure Jose cheated on his wife too a good few times

What Giggs did was terrible but he seems to be one of the few where we cannot separate his private life with football. No issue if you don’t want to see him as manager, but he is talked about like shit after giving 25 + years of service

Everyone seemed to be able to do this with George Best who lets face it was even worse than Giggs
