Don't believe a word of hacks like Jackson.

All of the sourceless wonders in the press will be pulling out made up lists of our transfer targets now. Competing to see how many they can guess. Such a farce.

Stones is shite. I was really praying he was a Chelsea target and not a Mourinho one.

Unpopular Opinion: Stones is underrated on here. Considering his age and his potential, I think he's not developed well at Everton and Jose could turn him into a top class defender.
I agree with you. He's had a poor season but that's been in a poor and underperforming squad. He's shown a ton of potential in previous seasons. That ability doesn't just vanish from a young player.

I found it by googling itv mourinho doc, shame on you

ITV Presents: Mourinho. I embedded the full video on page 33. It's class and the suggestion of Mourinho taking over at Old Trafford at the end now looks ominous in hindsight.

Edit: been reposted on this page.

What a fantastic documentary.

Posted some stuff on twitter from the Times:
  • Van Gaal is furious with United over the handling of his impending departure which there's still no confirmation of
  • Van Gaal only heard that Mourinho would be taking over when his wife alerted him at Wembley after seeing the reports
  • LVG suspected he may lose his job after failure to qualify for CL but wanted a more dignified ending. Will get £5.4m compensation
  • Understood that he is so angry about the leak and timing that he wouldn't consider an alternate (ambassador/executive) role if offered
  • Understood that Mourinho wants his assistant Rui Faria and goalkeeping coach Silvino Louro to join him at United

I wouldn't mind signing Stones but feck me, he's valued at 2-4 times his true worth.

Any bid put in for Stones should be put in for Varane first. £40m for him sounds a much better prospect.

In order; arsed, arsed, arsed, good, fine.

Don't worry yet, journos are just making shit up at this stage.
Aye, upon further inspection that does seem to be the case. Especially that Jackson article: player X is a top target. Wait, if he fails, player y...

Would Ruben Neves be on the radar? Mendes is his agent and would be a long term replacement of Carrick possibly(or Schneiderlin).

Can see why he'd be a bit unhappy, if that's true. I think I'd start writing the book now, if I were him.

I remember watching that documentary at the time it came out and hating it because I hated everything about Mourinho because he is such a winner. Really really enjoyed watching it this time, his level of drive and ambition is unparalleled.

I have never done as much reading as a United fan as I have done this weekend. By the time you finish one article another seven pop up.

If it's true its pretty confusing why we did it like this. To me it seemed obvious since December he was a dead man walking so the likes of Woodward should have told him in the past 6 months he has to leave in the summer and Mourinho will replace him.

Then when it looked like he could win the FA cup he should have just announced he was retiring once it was won and the club could have said they thought it would be best to not have a retiring manager in place for next season. A clean end instead of him babbling on about how he's still going to be here and making himself look stupid

What?

If he comes out with a book criticizing a club which allowed him to stay and win the FA cup despite him being a disaster all season he would look like a knob. Getting sacked after this run would be far more embarrassing than anything he deals with now

This kind of worries me a bit because by the sounds of it we have a squad full of players who don't like being criticised or held accountable and who can't errr boil eggs. Also note that the Hoek/De Gea relationship isn't as great as it sounds. I'm a bit worried that most managers will struggle with a set of players like that.

Not really our fault Mendes leaked the info. I would be furious if I was LVG too but surely he had to of seen it coming and he's getting 5mil or so to leave. I can't say I feel to sorry for him.
I don't really see why we couldn't have informed him that we'd given his job to someone else, so I think that bit is our fault.

I'm not sure he'd care about that. Petty revenge and money might be something he'd care about though.

Believe mou will sort out ourc defence first and foremost. When he went to Chelsea all of his initial signings were defenders then he moved on once he'd signed Carvalho and the right back bloke.

I think Stones would be good for us he needs someone like Smalling next to him who is a rock at the back. If it was up to me I'd target Giminez (sp?) At Athletico who loooks like a good young defender but doubt he'd be let go unless for mad Money. Godin is the dream signing for me another Athletico player who is nearing 30 now but is in my opinion the best central defender in the world, he works never leave Athletico either I doubt but he'd be incredible.

Good read. LvG must have been having kittens when Lingard smashed the ball in the net first time rather than taking a touch first! The perfect way to put and end to his philosophy.

Wow, that doesn't reflect well on van Gaal at all, but at the same time you definitely feel just how precious many of our players are.

From that point onwards, he started sending the players individual emails detailing their faults and submitting video clips to highlight his dissatisfaction. Except by that stage a lot of the players were so disillusioned many ignored the emails or redirected them straight to their trash. Van Gaal suspected as much and had a tracker fitted so he could check if the emails were opened and for how long. It became a game of cat and mouse. Some players opened the emails on their mobiles, then left their phones on the side and wandered off for 20 minutes

You'd feel a bit sorry for LVG, but then you realize he'll get millions, so it's hard to really care at all.

That piece is definitely interesting though. His methods are odd.

Very interesting read. The bit about the emails bit goes a bit too much into James Bond/Mission Impossible territory.

Hoek isn't as great as people make him out to be. DDG was improving under Woods and he'd improve under any capable coach.

I'm not surprised DDG doesn't like Hoek.

Giggs fails under Moyes and LVG = Considered for manager position
LVG fails as manager = Considered for ambassador or executive

It's an interesting strategy
It's mind boggling. Finishing 4th and 5th with United, and it's expected he'd be offered a position as an ambassador at the club?!

Ambassadors say nice things after they've left their former role. Angry people not on your payroll tend to say unhelpful things.

And the bit about the players wanting Giggs over Mourinho as he understands the club more/less likely to fall out with them.
