Mourinho to United | Officially Announced

Essien, Adebayor (loan), Coentrão, Altintop, Sahin, Pedro Leon...and that's just at Real Madrid.
Di Maria, Ozil, Varane, Modric... Nobody has a perfect record but I'd say Mourinho's is better than most.

It's really mean spirited to try one up the manager you are replacing the moment he wins a trophy by announcing you will be taking over. And it was almost literally a minute after. Shows the Portuguese lizard mentality at its worst. They do have their good side as well, but I'm basically talking Madeira.
I've read that this could be Mendes doing as he has some beef with LVG. Either way they can feck right off with this sort of nonsense. LVG's football has been dire but I personally dont think this is any way to treat someone who has been an important figure in management over the last couple of decades, has tried his best as our manager and actually won something.

We don't really know who released it, though. It could be from United side, or Mou's side. Who knows?
Either way, it's a pretty shitty thing to do. Hopefully it's Mendes, as I'd rather the most important parties (United and Mourinho) not behave like classless pricks.

How? BBC reported then that United had contacted Mendes over Mourinho. If @Acquire Me is to believed then United first made contact and had their eyes set on Mourinho in December.

As in it's taken a good 3months + for it to get to the appointment stage.

So the reports yesterday I would say just be patient over! It's obviously very very close now. Which it wasn't in Feb.

Van Gaal could've got CL until Tuesday and had a cup final yesterday, after that the news was free to come out.

Won't there be more than 3 people involved in this deal (Woodward, Mourinho, Mendes) so why are we blaming them for the leak? I really doubt Mendes would get to the position he is in by being so unprofessional

Just because we are close to making it official now doesn't mean we weren't in contact with Mourinho's camp six months ago. I think United were trying hard not to do a City and announce the new manager when the current one is still in the job but obviously the news has leaked some how and it's a bit of a mess now.

Something to do with NY stock market? My guess is that they'll first annouce LVG early retirement or left on mutual consent, and at the same time announcing that Mourinho will be taking over (as what most football team does)

Besides, talking about it, if you're about to execute a prisoner, does it matter if you do it politely or abruptly? Does chopping a prisoner head more gently deemed as more classy? they're all look the same to me

If a deal is in place, nobody would care when they announce it, they're not kindergarted kids who can't wait a few more days.

With mou and saf under 1 roof we would have the most successful managers in the epl ever

I'm not sure what role SAF has under this roof exactly.

It appears to me to be a Mourinho Mendes combination if anything given the latter has a lot of hands into United jars right now.

So looks like there ill be no formal announcement till late Tuesday.

To be fair to the club, they have not leaked anything and the media is bound to speculate LVGs future when there is no formal announcement.

Im guessing its a process of legal formalities: LVG could not be terminated til it was impossible to reach CL qualification AND the FA Cup final required full concentration. Likewise, you can't ask a new manager to join you until you remove the previous chap.

That's right. Course there was a beef, it was about the De Gea humiliation of Mendez, and the LVG take no shit attitude over the other Mendez signings. Loved LVG for this. Mendez is dirt.

Personally for me we should have moved heaven and earth for Mourinho to replace Fergie. I've always felt that he was the perfect manager for us and us for him (more so than Pep). Everyone going on about his antics, if he makes that emotional connection with the players and the fans then we won't care, he'll be our cnut and we'll love him the more for it. He's been coasting since Madrid, he couldn't get that connection there no matter how hard he tried ( Spanish cliques in the dressing room). I am incredibly excited by having him as our manager. I don't think we'll see the park the bus mentality unless it's called for (which Fergie was also willing to do when nes').

C'mon Jose, Welcome to Manchester United. Make your legacy man.

Duncan castles is on the case now. Here are what his thoughts are-
  • Mourinho contacted in December, told he is first choice to manage united
  • Asked to wait till end of season to take over.
  • LVG was given reassurances he will be manager next year so he did not stop to work for 4th but he still failed to get it. Even if he had got 4th Mou was coming.
  • Mourinho planned accordingly, rejecting madrid, arsenal, paris, everton.
  • He was first offered job for 2017 as some mebers of PLC board did not want him
  • Members of PLC board had reservations, but in the end decided to go with him.
  • United had also contacted Poch, pep, carlo ancelotti but all had prior commitments
  • Rui faria will be assistant coach and Silvino LOuro Gk coach, 2 others will join Mourinho staff
  • Mourinho will lead wholesale changes to the football department of the club
  • 3 year deal should be signed on tuesday.
This could mean bye bye GIGGSY!

Shame about Frans Hoek. I know he's one of Louis' coaches, but having DDG get a new coach again is a bit irksome. Hoek is a fantastic coach.

So, Mourinho has had since December to prepare for this moment.
That means he has had time to analyze our team and work with Woodward behind the scenes on signings and departures.

I would expect alot of news of incomings to come over the next few weeks if this is the case.

All in all a masterstroke from Woodward if true and will be nice to have a manager in before July for a change.

I think that's a huge plus for us, the fact that we have a top class manager who has had 6 months off to assess first hand what's out there - including all our existing players.

Agreed. No reason for Mou and United to release it earlier, after have been waiting for months. Most probably Mendes the snake, though.

Could? There's no way Mourinho would agree to keep him on.

De Gea has improved every time his coach has changed, hopefully he'll get something new to add to his game.
other than the ability to mutate in a split second with either his arms and legs growing or filling the goal area with his body mass, don't see how he could improve.

De gea doesnt like him, i think. He liked Eric steele. Maybe its great that he is leaving.

I fairness, we said the same when Chris Woods and Eric Steele left David, but he's just gone from strength to strength under each coach. And Lauro is no scrub either. He has trained 3 UEFA Goalkeeper of the Year winners under Mourinho at Porto, Chelsea and Internazionale (who all improved under him):
2010: Júlio César (FC Internazionale Milano)
2009: Edwin van der Sar (Manchester United FC)
2008: Petr Čech (Chelsea FC)
2007: Petr Čech (Chelsea FC)
2006: Jens Lehmann (Arsenal FC)
2005: Petr Čech (Chelsea FC)
2004: Vítor Baía (FC Porto)

2003: Gianluigi Buffon (Juventus)
2002: Oliver Kahn (FC Bayern München)
2001: Oliver Kahn (FC Bayern München)
2000: Oliver Kahn (FC Bayern München)
1999: Oliver Kahn (FC Bayern München)
1998: Peter Schmeichel (Manchester United FC)

And the interesting thing is that all those keepers had great command and leadership over their area, which is a prerequisite for Mourinho's defenses, and an aspect where De Gea could stand to improve a bit. Maybe that will be the next step in De Gea's evolution.

The new guy sounds like a good coach.

Louro began a career as a goalkeeping coach, successively at Porto, Chelsea, Inter Milan and Real Madrid, always under countryman José Mourinho. Several of the goalkeepers he worked directly with (Baía, Petr Čech and Júlio César) went on to win the Best Goalkeeper award, given by UEFA.

I wouldn't mind if he would stay in some other capacity. In general he seems to be a good coach.
