Mourinho | New old Chelsea manager

A lot of that "he should have played more open (which would increase our chances of winning)" around here.

I doubt Chelsea fans are too upset with the performance. Mourinho came to play away to the title holder - who walked through the league last year - while he's still getting to grips with his team and what he has available. I'm sure he wanted to win the game on the counter, but United played well despite very little offensive threat. He probably figured that going for the win more ostensibly would increase United's chances of scoring more than it would Chelsea's.

Can't understand how he's to blame for that.

If Moyes had ignored our best player of the last 2 seasons, not gone with a genuine striker and played for a draw I don't think he would be getting an easy ride from the media like Jose has. I still think Chelsea are a bit behind us and City.

The thing about Jose is that he will get them to be damn consistent against the lesser teams. I can't see Pellegrini getting City to be that consistent.

So they'll still rack up a high points tally and might still be our main threat for the title.

I had completely forgotten how boring it was to watch Chelsea under Mourinho. Now i remember

Their fans are probably not that bothered with it. United has been extremely boring for the past two seasons as well - it's the team which I watch more outside of Portugal - and you weren't bothered by it as long as you're winning.

I think if you scan the boards last year, you'd find quite a few people bored by it.

You've clearly not visisted the Slow Motion Zombie Passing thread.

Oh man, I'm seriously laughing my ass off with him... this man's whole raison d'être within football is confined to victimisation, from every statement he makes to the way his teams approach their games. Also, Spain really did a number on him, huh? A couple of years ago he was the master troll with a smug, confident smile on his face, now he just cuts a pitiful figure ranting against everyone and anything. Not even five games into the new season and he's already suffered a nervous breakdown over the Super Cup game... add to that his inane comments on FFP earlier (paraphrasing: "it's an injustice that other teams aren't criticised as much as mine for spending feckloads of money")

The irony is that the English press have unwittingly manipulated him, the master manipulator, into believing that he's making any sort of sense. Not quite sure which party comes off worse in that arrangement. Great manager though, and looks like a nice enough bloke from what eye can gouge.

feck him, to think some wanted him as a replacement for SAF (not saying Moyes is better or anything like that) ....
Im not his biggest fan but I think at United it might have been different, at Chelsea he knows he can say/do anything and the Chelsea fans will adore him/not question him.

That said he was a twat at Madrid as well so you're probably right

Very happy Jose's back with us. The team looks more and more like Chelsea of years ago, when he was first in charge, tough, resilient and fighting till the end.

There are some issues to address in the squad, but I'm fairly confident we'll do well under him second time around.

He's a great coach and proper winner. I just don't like all the bullshit that comes with him, whether he does it to protect his players or not.
At Chelsea he could do and say anything, no one will say anything. The Mata situation is an example, albeit we're barely into the season. The Chelsea fans don't seem that bothered by him not playing Mata.

My feeling is that he is going to fail this time around.

Depends on what you mean by fail. I can see no silverware this season happening. Still to early to tell though but he'll definitely win something along the way before his contract is torn up. It's just what Mourinho does.

If he doesnt play Mata and we get a draw away at United and come 5 seconds away from beating the best team in Europe then he can rightly be excused, maybe he does know whats best for the team?

If he doesnt play Mata and we lose 3-0 to Bayern or draw 0-0 at home to Palace then he has a question to answer.

Benitez rested players ( Mata) and lost 0-1 to QPR, thats why he was questioned for that.

Such stupid comments after the loss yesterday. Conspiracy theories about refs. Saying the better team lost. The 2nd yellow was a yellow but shouldnt have been given to not spoil the spectacle. Christ. I understand why he does it but its cringeworthy.

It's very strange, cause in case some other manager would have talked bullshit like Mourinho, I would have hated him. But in this case, I have more mixed feelings. I know that what he is saying is bullshit, but on the other hand I understand completely why he doe that and it always look funny to me. The other interesting part is that Mourinho does deliberately these interviews in order to piss off other fans. He enjoys winding up other people. He's the peterstorey of managers, with a better club than Arsenal though.

Please, enlighten me. I really don't understand it, and I highly doubt it has any positive effect on the team. It's just downright embarrassing.

He's just taking attention away from Lukaku. All the talk now will be about Mourinho's comments, not the kid missing the crucial pen.

I only saw the Super Cup from the second half onwards, but from what I did see it made the CL final from a couple of years back look like an even game by comparison. You were getting spanked all over the place by a disjointed Bayern team and then in the last part of extra time degenerated into an indisciplned mess. Bayern must have had a chance to score literally every 30 seconds in hte last 10 minutes. So "5 seconds away from beating the best team in Europe" is a somewhat skewed argument...it was also so important that neither side put their strongest team out.

I didn't like the performance at OT either. A draw was a fair result, but the way you set up and played was like an admission of inferiority. If United do that under Moyes there'll be a furore (I'd be the one leading it!)

I still think he's gone a bit mad on his own ego during his stint at Real. Everything in the past year or so seems to be based around making himself out to be victimised or handicapped in some way. I'm guessing he failed his own expectations at Real but doesn't want to admt that to himself. It's making him incredibly irritating, even by his standards.

Why would anyone give a feck about Lukaku missing a penalty in the European version of the Charity Shield? You're inventing a straw that isn't there just so you can clutch on it.

I thought it was great when he reminded the Chelsea fans how ACTUAL support sounds like. Credit to the Bayern fans, they were superb.

He was a complete embarrassment yesterday. No humility,no perspective. After his relative failure at Madrid, I don't think the press are going to be as forgiving in his second spell here.

It's actually annoying me seeing Mata on the bench. I can't even remember ridiculous clubs like Madrid or City benching a player of that talent in that sort of form, it's such a waste.

Why would I go out and defend someone needlessly when I've just called him an embarrassment?

One look at the teams should also tell you that both managers wanted the win, it wasnt meaningless. Lukaku missing the pen would have been the headlines had it not been for the stupid comments by Mourinho.

Doubt that's true. It wasn't a really important game, it was just a glorified friendly and I really doubt the media would make a drama out of a missed penalty by a 20 year old player in that game. There's no need to bring out his conspiracy theories again and again. He's just as usual blaming others for loosing a game instead of for once saying something respectful after a loss without some ridiculous excuses that have nothing to do with reality or the rules of the game. The way he looked and acted during the game, the way he left the pitch after it was over, nothing points at him acting and making those comments because he has a genius plan in his mind. He just acts like an idiot and I doubt it pisses off other fans anymore like Revan wrote above. He's done it way too often for it too have an effect on other fans, imo. At least that's the impression I got on german football boards. Besides a few users who like to make a drama out of everything, everyone just laughed at him and can't take him seriously anymore.

I think even if you'd have won both games, the criticism for not playing Mata would be low. He could do no wrong for the Chelsea fans.

And I totally forgot, he said the exact same thing when giving an interview to a German journalist after the game. I maybe could understand that point about taking pressure of Lukaku if he said it for the English media and then acted like a decent human being in the next interview, but he was just saying the same embarrassing stuff again and believe me, no German newspaper would have had Lukaku in the headline.

Oh yes, dont get me wrong. He is a right cnut in that regard, blaming everyone but himself and his team for a loss and it has got to a point where people laugh at it rather than get angry about it. Am not denying that, what am saying is that his desire to get his team or certain players out of the limelight after a loss is also a factor to it.

So why say it in German television as well? It makes no sense at all.

He cant possibly give 2 different interviews for different media channels mate in today's world where every interview can be translated to expose his shit.
