Lothar Matthaus, Matthaeus, Mathaus, Matheaus, or Matthews? Or none of the above??
Lindelöf himself doesn't even put it on his shirt:Özil and Lindelöf, people keep forgetting the ”ö”.
Bit of both I think but personel is the biggest issue. It’s no surprise we ”tend” to play better football with a centre back two from Bailly, Rojo, Jones. We played so deep yesterday so the tactical plan must have been fast transitions.
However all too often, when we do manage to get the ball forward fast, to Mata, Lukaka, Martial, Rashford, or Miki, they lose it, which is the biggest difference between us and City. When City get that ball forward, it stays within the team. Rarely do they turn over possession like we do in those moments.
The ideal is to have a compact block of player who attack/defend together:
- Lukaku isolated
- Martial was attracted by the heart of the game
- Pogba + Matic VS 3 opposing players
- The defense play low on the pitch
- Young is asked to own the left flank today.
- The partnership Rashord+Valencia was decent
- Lukaka + Matic + Mata are not the most dynamic players
In this context, Martial and Rashford have a key role to enable the team to have a better command of the game and play higher on the pitch. Rashford tried to do this while Martial wasn't tactically disciplined.
Also, I don't see players like Martial and Rashford trying to make Lukaku score.
His lack of movement is a major issue and he needs to work on this.
But he seems to get subbed off even when performing better than others. Lukaka was very poor last night but Martial who created so many chances and nearly scored himself is subbed off.
Lukaka scored against Madrid this season and caused them some problems. If your argument relies on last season can i point to the countless goals Lukaku got for Everton? I'm too lazy to check but feel confident in saying that he probably contributed to more points for Everton.
Morata has played vs us, City, Asnl and Tottenham. Against Asnl and City he barely got into the game. Against Tottenham he missed a sitter. Fair play he scored against us but you have to question our defending.
Lukaku hasnt scored against any of the big boys (aside from Madrid) but he did get the assist against Tottenham which secured us the points.
I'm sure this debate will go on until the end of the season but on Sunday Morata had Hazard and Cesc supporting him. Lukaku had Mikhi and Rashford. I wonder how Lukaku would have fared in Moratas position.
Would anybody advocate that he be dropped, and have a partnership of Martial and Rashford?
They haven't played together that much, but when they have they seem to have a decent understanding of each other.
I'm a fan of Lukaka BTW, just thinking maybe try something different.
As opposed to what? Lukaka up front with Young...Valencia..Lingard..Mikhi..Jones...Smalling..?
And how did that formation go against Stoke, Huddersfield, Liverpool and Chelsea?
Were losing anyway mate, so how can it get any worse??
Probably unfair to judge on yesterdays performances, give the support offered to Morata, compared with the support given to Lukaku, but when they are both on the same pitch is the best time for personal comparisons.
Morata can take the ball with his back to goal, is constantly hunting for space, demonstrated his ability in the air (admittedly unchallenged) and has quick feet. Lukaka is physically stronger, probably faster (in full flight), is not able to take a ball with his back to goal, is 'lazy' in terms of looking for space and always seems to be 'back on his heels' when a ball gets played into and around him.
Morata took only one of the three clear chances he had, don't think Lukaku had one clear chance!
We have a potential 'Morata model' in Rashford, someone who can work their own openings as well as combing with others.
Lukaku however is a one off, a case of "load, aim and fire" is what we need for Lukaku... but who will make the bullet's?
Mourinho should maybe construct our attacking play because it's been horrible. Lukaka is being deprived of chances. I pity him because he gives his all in each match. Hopefully he scores today.
Lukaka since he's been shit lolLukaku must be up be there for innocuous misspells - it's not a complex name (especially compared with say Dortmund's bamboozling duo of Błaszczykowski and Papastathopoulos), but folks still slip up from time to time. Samples from November:
Some of them spell it as both Lukaku and Lukaka.
Matthäus.Lothar Matthaus, Matthaeus, Mathaus, Matheaus, or Matthews? Or none of the above??
Well he is also often spelled with the y in official documents, newspapers etc. Do you know why?Johan Cruijff
Wierdly enough.
Damn! Great call. 25 pages!Lots of people spell Makelele as Makalele for some reason.

Cruijff seems to be the correct spelling, but he is called Cruyff usually. I don't really get it.
It's not like the name has any weird letters like ä or Ø.
Any explanation for that?

Most country names are spelled differently or have other names in English than in their native language. It's like Nederland and Netherland. The former is the dutch spelling and the other is english. None of them are actually wrong.

Names aren't usually spelled differently unless there are letters in it that don't exist in other languages.
It's literally to make sense of names that have no frame of reference in English. Ask a native English speaker to say Cruijff, and you're going to get a lot of laughs out of it. Phonetically, 'Cruyff' makes sense as the letters frame a word that doesn't have the same margin for error or potential to be utterly butchered. Not really, names are anglicized fairly often. I don't know why people do it but it's done.

Let me see now, names I have to copy and paste from Google....
I've always rated Papastathopoulos.
