Most misspelled football player names in history? (excluding Eastern Europe)

Time for a bump?

Rangnick. I see it spelled as Ragnick on a daily basis.

Nearly tempted to write "Bailly basis".

Højbjerg is most often spelt Hojberg. I can understand replacing the Ø, but at least get both the J’s in there.

How has he been for you lot?
Absolutely atrocious. So much so that I actually feel bad for him.

Thing is, I know he's a good player and he showed that his first 3 or 4 matches this season, but his confidence is completely shot and he hasn't been able to put a foot right since. He is our worst regular player by far.

Makes me really sad too, I love Ali.

Jeez didn't know he's been that bad, the Brighton move may have killed his club career in Europe, shame.

He still performs decently for the national team at least.

It's weird, he is obviously a great player, easily good enough to be a star in our league yet everything he does simply goes wrong. I hope he can regain his confidence next yet.

Best get used to Haag on this forum. Seen it plenty of times already.

Replacement for Lingaard.

Well I certainly hope so though I kinda doubt it a , iranian footballing structure and upbringing severely lags behind the rest of the world so many players will have a hard time acclimatizing themselves in Europe.

He seems intelligent however so let's see what happens.

Ah, but he was amazing in our league at AZ before his Brighton move which is how he got that transfer in the first place.

I know thread title says excluding Eastern Europe. Do we count Poland under that category?

Because Blaszczykowski is a winner.

Yeah I remember that's why I hope he'll turn it around in the future, he has the quality i feel.

He moved to Europe much sooner relative to other Iranian prospects but his upbringing was still transpired firmly in there so that mentality has surely seeped into his psyche .

There is a lot of previous examples as well with the likes of karimi, mahadavi kia and daie never really finding their footing in Europe despite scattered triumphs here and there.

I have a vested interest in iranian football due to familial bonds and I must say, the footballing structure there is horrific despite probably having the best talent pool of entire Asia but I'm derailing the thread at this point so I'll leave it at that.

Anyway taremi seems to be smashing it in Portugal and jahanbakhsh was on of the first Iranians of the new generation to find his footing in Europe so hopefully he'll turn it around.

The Maguire one surprises me. Mcguire I’ve seen a lot

I think it's humour…. "Humour" most of the time.
More annoyed by commentators who pronounce it like that.

van Nistelrooij
Isn't that simply the difference between English & Dutch spelling? Like van Nistelrooy/van Nistelrooij; Cruyff/Cruijff etc. I'm not sure if that counts as "misspelling".

Are you talking about Kuba? :)

Szczęsny is also someone whose name I always have to double & triple check — and I speak another Slavic language! Can't imagine how tough Polish names are for someone who doesn't have that advantage. Although maybe it works against me, since we have one letter "щ" to replace that entire "szcz" thing.

I'm sure he's back near the top of the table after last night.

I was prone to getting it wrong at one point but was noticing it so many times in that Vieira kicks invader thread last night.

Second 'I' doesn't look like it would need to be in there to say his name correctly, plus there's a range of Panasonic TVs called Viera.

I used to spell it incorrectly as I'd always said it phonetically until I saw it on a teamsheet, which was quite bemusing. Definitely one that goes under the radar!

Is that the fecker who randomly scored an awesome overhead kick against Chelsea? Feck him, glad he's suffering now

Not a player but a team/place. Villarreal is tricky, at least for me.

It's that second 'r'. You've got Villa as in Aston Villa or a large, fancy house. Real as in Real Madrid, Betis, Sociedad etc. Doesn't look like it would need an extra one. Used to always get that wrong.

Worst part is in Valencian it's Vila-real
