Do Arsenal really need any more midfielders? Surely that would be on his mind when choosing

It may well be that Arsenal have been interested all along (it is widely acknowledged that he'd be perfect for them) but had resigned themselves that he is going to United. With United struggling to close the deal they may now think they have a chance to come in and steal him.

Just sign him already or get Schweinsteiger to answer yes or fecking no so we can move on. Even Bayern are making noises about him potentially leaving. He's a great player and well respected but he is not bigger than United, he either wants to stay or leave the big german c0ck tease!

The value they want isn't being matched so they name drop Arsenal to get us motoring again.. No biggie, have Faith. ;)

I know, I wasn't sure if Rado knew that cos he slashed it with summarise which is different.

Maybe. Although it doesn't take away from his point. SW are just doing what we're all doing i.e. discussing the l'Equipe story. They don't have any new information or inside track. The mainstream football journos are more likely to have some actual insight, as they have contacts within the club(s)

If he genuinely wants to come to utd and we definitely want him, this deal should have been done a while ago.

The normally reliable Sport Witness reporting that Arsenal are back in the frame. I hope that Woody is not going to feck this one up by his usual farting about preparing bids.

Sport Witness is basically just a United fan writing articles based on her opinions on transfer news. She set it up as a replacement BBC 606 forum when 606 shut down, wrote some articles on top of that, and because the writing is superior to most tabloids it's now a reputable source for transfer news, despite the fact there's no actual football reporters/journalists, sources or contacts involved. Fair play to those involved for turning it into what it is, but you may as well just read the caf.

On the contrary, if he's got his heart set on United we're absolutely right to negotiate the price in our favour. If we can save a few million quid for the sake of a couple of weeks negotiating then we absolutely should.

It's real money you know. £3,000,000 = 3,750 season tickets.

Nobody claims it to be an original source or anything other than an opinion piece. Those of us that appreciate reading it though, appreciate it for what it is; a refreshingly honest summing up of what's in the worldwide press at any time. They call a spade a spade and freely admit they're as in the dark as we are but will do their best to decipher a scenario through logic and knowledge of source credibility

Yeah that's fair enough, personally I stopped reading it because I was always conscious of the fact that it's started by a genuine opinion laden United fan, someone who used to argue tooth and nail with scousers on an open football forum. They're far more likely to pick up on and write about the stories that United fans want to hear and the more comical rumours of Liverpool transfers, even if it's hidden by the backdrop of an impartial website, hence why I'm very sceptical to actually take anything from it as genuine transfer news! It's if anyone says Sport Witness are 'reporting' anything that it bugs me.

Maybe I was a bit too brief there. I was more referring to the things I keep seeing that say player prefers Arsenal. But I don't remember seeing any tweets saying he prefers utd. If he genuinely does prefer Arsenal, that could explain the delay. The reports he prefers Arsenal could also just be made up to get the price higher.

For all we know, the deal could already be done and we are just keeping a lid on it.

Got a bad feeling he's holding out for arsenal. We haven't been stingy recently and I don't think now is the time to haggle over a few million in the grand scheme, especially with the wages being dropped significantly. We need good players right now, and he should be topping our list IMO.

What would disappoint me if we don't sign him is if we want him and don't pursue it properly. If we go all in and he chooses Arsenal, so be it. That'd be his loss in my opinion and quite frankly I want players desperate to play for our club. It's all rumour and speculation at this stage though without fact.

I still think there's a fair chance he'll end up here.

That's pretty much how I see it to be honest.

Canal+ tweeted we were closer than arsenal, l equipe said we agreed terms with him. There's a guy alex crook who is supposed to be close to Southampton (acc to saints fans I know) who said he prefers United.

People are assuming he prefers arsenal only because he and Wenger are from the same region in France which means nothing in football. Maybe Wenger does have a pull on French players but we got evra pogba Saha and many others. Remy didn't prefer arsenal over Chelsea. It's like assuming arsenal would get pogba if they bid.

None of the arsenal journos have been reporting anything. The news has always been that we offered more money and arsenal think he is overpriced. The last time there was a rumour that arsenal have signed him, reports came the next day that United were closing in.

I heard quite a few weeks back that he prefers to go to the Arsenal with United 'ok' for him if Arsenal doesn't work out. Let me stress that I don't know how true this is but if it is - we're wasting time here. Don't want any player here (no matter how good) if they are not committed.
Surely, our scouting department must have identified other players for that position? He can't be the only good option there is.....

I think the pull Wenger has for French players is more for young players leaving France moving to England instead of a player in his mid 20's who has been in England since 2008.

This guy was yesterday retweeting articles from Jackson and the Mirror saying we were going back in next week, so he's obviously still of that opinion.

Yeah he still says the same. To be fair he may also be basing it on old info. But it's a little weird that arsenal think 24 mill is too much but are willing to bid 30

It might not be the fee which Arsenal think is too much, it could be wages.

There was a story last week that Arsenal couldn't match the salary United were offering.

Van Gaal has just not seemed ever too bothered with Schneidi.....Maybe he's waiting to see how long it will be before Strootman is fit enough to pass a medical before opting deciding to go for that or for opting for one of his Plan C targets instead.

Strootman is left footed and was on schedule to return just before preseason, I seriously doubt van Gaal will put all his eggs in that basket. Schneiderlin is the same type of player and available, I would be very surprised if this deal doesn't happen.
