A bid has to be prepared. We're renowned for preparing amazing bids that are handwritten on a specifically crafted papyrus.

The Woodster actually prepares his bids on Papaya. And presents the buttery sweet flesh to the football gods.

Why do United carry out transfers so painfully slow?! According to Koeman yesterday, a bid hasn't even been put in as yet. What exactly is Woody doing ffs!

If the two clubs are on good terms, a formal bid is almost the last thing that happens. Normally the two clubs will discuss 'informally' (but still officially, of course) what kind of money they're looking for/prepared to offer and how those payments will work. Once they reach the point that they're in the same ball park, then the clubs start making formal bids. But all the hard work and the provisional agreement will be done and dusted.

We have agreed terms with Schneiderlin. All there is to be agreed is a fee with Southampton and I expect it's all about add ons and stuff. A bid to be made takes an hour once they decide the actual amount to be bid. Remember we had a bid rejected and accepted for Herrera on the same day

Herrera was a buyout wasn't it? Hard to reject a buyout i reckon.

That morning bilbao tweeted that they rejected a bid from United. However in the evening we announced our signing.
Bilbao rejected the transfer offer, then United triggered the buyout clause is how i understood it.

A.Herrera: As usual with Athletic, they reject United OFFER...which means Utd will have to pay buy out clause. He WILL be an Utd player

my point was that once United knew how much to bid it took 8 hours to announce him. So bidding in such signings is just a formality is what I feel

Brings back good memory's, that Tweet. Our best signing last summer for sure.

That's a different situation though, Schneiderlin doesn't have a buyout clause. With Herrera we always knew that we could get him at that price since it's in his contract, we were just trying to get him for cheaper.

Certainly seems that way alright! :)

I dont think we're particularly slow compared to other clubs on the whole (Moyes summer being an exception of course :nervous:), it just seems a lot slower as we spend all day every day constantly analyzing our own pending transfers, whilst ignoring those of other clubs until they actually happen. Look at the Cech to Arsenal transfer for example. There's been rumours of it milling around for a month or two, there were reports out 2 weeks ago that he'd signed a £10M deal, Cech himself came out and said nothing had happened, then finally yesterday it actually went through.

Possibly, its very difficult to judge these things as we don't know the full story. If nothing has happened by Friday next week I think it's time to start worrying. We really should have at least 2 more deals done by then in my mind. They said in May that negotiations were already on the way with some players and they wanted to do business early, so they've set themselves up for a fall if they don't get the business done.

Hopefully this is all completed by the end of the week.

I think at the end of the day the fee is going to be around 24-25 mill. I think we are trying to make it 20+4 add on or something instead of paying 24. Similar to how we structured Shaw (27+3.5) and depay (22+3)

Yep, sounds about right to me.

Understand Man Utd bid for Schneiderlin 10 days ago (under £25m). Didn't meet Saints asking price & was rejected. Also told no contact since

I suppose this confirms Koeman saying that they haven't had a 'serious' bid yet, meaning a bid not good enough to accept.

I'm sure we know the price and we'll pay it in the coming days. This one is already complete IMO.

What do we think Southampton are after? About £30m or just shy of it?

I think this one is wrapped up and we are focused on Ramos atm.

I can remember the Herrera and Shaw deals being very close in terms of announcement last summer. Maybe it'll work out similar with Ramos and Morgan. Woody is probably licking his lips at the prospect. :)

I think this will be completed in the next few days, with Schweinsteiger staying, Schneiderlin is the one we'll get.

Man, I was hoping this would be sealed soon so I could concentrate all my muppeting efforts elsewhere. I hate it when we leave our business late (I know the window isn't open yet and half of the world is playing in cup competitions) I wanted us to be done by the time the tour started!

Oh feck off :(

Luke Shaw: Man Utd sign Southampton defender for £27m - http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/28048866

The same amount that was rejected is what we ended up buying him for. Id guess that we added some bonus specific things to take the fee a bit higher and thats what we are doing now.

The media seem to be reporting the asking price as £25M. Dunno how it'll be structured though in terms of fee up front and add-ons.

So about two weeks for that and it's been ten days already for this deal. Fits in with the signing being done this week.

Cannot wait for us to sign Schneiderlin this week....finally a proper CDM!
Getting him for around £25m would be excellent business by the club.

Probably between 25-30 I'd guess.

I'd imagine a lot of it will be how much Southampton want upfront etc, rather than the exact total.
