Arsenal being in the mix just reminds me of that other thread about things that seem to be the case always.

Arsenal only seem to buy midfielders.

Put me in a room with any player for 5 mins and if they choose Arsenal over us shoot me. Any CEO that happens to should be shot on sight :)
They can throw a geography book, I'll throw a history book right back, a cheque book right back and sell a dream, which appeals to the young boy in every footballer :)

Looks like a premiership winning midfield. Just needs another quality player like Gundogan or Schweinsteiger for rotation.

Quoting from Ian Herberts article in tomorrows Independent apparently.

Its so obvious that Schneiderlin is basically our backup option, and thats why we're stalling on it. Utterly ridiculous.

It's a bit of a pisstake. Schneiderlin is absolutely perfect for United in every single aspect, more so than Schweinsteiger. We could do with both but Schneiderlin should be a no brainer, regardless of whether we buy Schweinsteiger or not.

If we got Ramos, Schneiderlin and one of Gundogan or Schweinsteiger i think i'd do a sex wee.

I think we know that if we want Schneiderlin, it can happen quickly. While we'd have to test the waters with Schweinsteiger.

Sorry but if there's a chance we can get Schweinstegier still then we must pursue it, if it's one or the other then it has to be Schweinstegier, but both makes sense really.

The Schweinstegier of a few years ago yes, but not the current incarnation. He'd be a massive risk.

If it's one or the other id be firmly in the Schneiderlin camp.

As much as I'd have loved to have signed Schweinsteiger a few years back, and would still be overjoyed to add him to our ranks now for what he could still offer - if it came down to one or the other it'd be Schneiderlin, he'd be the longer term solution.

We need 2 of Schneiderlin, Schweinsteiger and Gundongan.

Agree, Gundogan can do one though, it has to be the first two, Carrick is 34, Schweinsteiger 30, and Schneiderlin 25, this could be Carricks last season for us and he is often injured so can't really be relied on, Schweinstegier is a better player than Carrick and if he can stay fit would be massive for us, Schneiderlin fitness wise is a better bet than both but imo he's not as good yet but could be with time, so he'd step in and do a good job whilst becoming the long term replacement.

So the three combined could just get us through next season, without been left in the ridiculous position we found ourselves last season when Carrick was injured, which basically cost us 2/3 rd position.

Gundogan is currently a tier below those two. We don't need to risk any player far from his best level for another season running.

Schweinsteiger will be 31 in August and his game relies very much on his physical traits. We could get 1 at best 2 world class seasons out of him. Give me Schneiderlin over him any day of the week. Seems like Van Gaal is in win now mode, rather than building something like Sir Alex used to.

I really don't understand this "we need 2 of Schweinsteiger, Schneiderlin and Gundogan" idea. Gundogan is a completely different type of midfielder than the other two. They are not at all interchangeable to a style of play.

That midfield 3 above places a huge creative and goal scoring burden on Herrera and the front 3. United will need to add genuine quality in attack for that to be good enough because the likes of Ashley Young won't cut it with that midfield.

Risk worth taking for me, he's a beast and if it worked he'd improve us massively imo.

He's missed 50 games in the last 2 seasons, and would be moving to the worst league for players that are slightly past it physically (see Falcao, RVP, Torres etc)

The risk is that if it doesn't work out, or his body doesn't hold out, we're back to the same problem as this season. No balance in midfield.

I wouldn't hold RvP in that group, he's had injuries all his career.

Well yes, at this time he is a tier below, but if he can get his shit together he can be fantastic, so it kinda evens out. Sometimes is good to take risks if the reward is high enough.

My order of preference is Schweinsteiger>Schneiderlin>Gundongan, but I would be pleased with either 2 of these 3.

But the point is that players that struggle physically (lose pace, can't handle the physical natrue of the league etc) like RVP in the last 2 seasons, tend to struggle in the PL, and drop a level or two.

Yup agreed, but then you have players like giggs, scholes, lampard, terry, Gerrard et al who adapt their game.
I agre with you about Bastian though, huge gamble, move the feck on

Yes but Schwein and Schneiderlin can also play the 6. So if a Carrick injury occurs then Gundo would be in the 8 position. Gundo would also be good cover for Herrera.

True, but I do think it is generally harder for players to come into the league and adapt. Thats why I've been so surprised with RVP, I thought he'd age pretty well. But apparently not.

All these folk claiming to know the player's mind and they come up with different answers! I think Schneiderlin tells each one a different story for a laugh.

We really shouldn't be standing still on this one if its ready to happen, just get it done instead of trying and possibly failing to get Schweinsteiger. If we get both then fantastic, it will create a selection problem but we can deal with that, its not exactly a bad problem to have and Carrick isn't getting younger.

If we end up getting neither because we waited too long and he ends up at Arsenal we will end up looking like right dicks.
