There's nothing to suggest we're close to signing him. Star, Sun and Express articles are worth less then nothing.

All this excitement over nothing really.
And Ducker from the Times saying we're in pole position.

I don't follow Auclair but he doesn't strike me as the type of journo to just make up stuff for the sake of it.

Ducker adds a slight bit of credibility, but even his slight mention came just after the other articles. Looks very much like he's covering his own back, just incase we do sign him, and he can say 'look I told you'.

Reading between the lines, I reckon Arsenal want him the most, but don't want to pay the price. While we consider him backup if other deals (Bastian) fall through.
I reckon he also prefers Arenal - French manager, closer to trophies, in London - money maybe our main asset in terms of fee and wages

Times and Telegraph area also saying we're in pole to get him.

no, he always seem quite honest. It does not mean the person telling him this is saying the truth though.

Like I said, they had brief mentions of it within a day of the other articles. Looks to me like they were just copying the information to cover their own backs. Journos do it all the time.

How good is he on an international level?

We've seen what he can do at club level but has he been good playing for France or is he down the pecking order behind Pogba and Cabaye.

Yeah Auclair is serious and if he's tweeted that it's that he's genuinely been told what he said. Whether or not it's being fed to him as disinformation or whatever, however...

Schneiderlin, Schweinstieger... we'll probably end up with schneither.

Profile wise Schneiderlin would be ideal. We currently only have Fellaini and Rooney as muscles in midfield, with Blind, Carrick and to a lesser extend Herrera as defensive midfield options. The only balanced midfield we can play with the current options is Fellaini-Carrick-Herrera, a fit Strootman is exactly what van Gaal needs to be able to play different midfield combinations since he always has 2 defensively good players.

I'm sure van Gaal wanted to wait last season to sign Strootman, but he got a setback and will only be ready just before preseason and therefore is a risk. He's a defensively good 8 who can play at 6 and also is a good passer, I see the same qualities in Schneiderlin. Players of that ilk are hard to find nowadays and Schneiderlin has the added benefit of being PL proven and isn't too expensive either compared to a Vidal. It would make alot of sense for this transfer to happen and therefore I'm optimistic, I think this will happen.

The player said he hoped this would be sorted before training started

1) would that be Monday?
2) considering that very little business gets done over the weekends, shall I assume he wanted it done today?

He hasn't played much at all for France. Certainly not at the WC. For their recent friendlies it seems he started a few until he got injured. Pretty sure he's behind Pogba and Matuidi but not Cabaye.

Maybe, I get the feeling he doesn't like silence and fills it with whatever whimsy that comes to mind, but because he speaks in a slow french accent people somehow put more creedence in it, like when Arsene arrived with 2 kinds of pasta and blew everyone's minds and became le professeur

Kind of like that charming Irishman in the pub whom you eventually realise is just an annoying pisshead.

I feel the moment Strootman will return to form will be the same day when Louie will start the chase for him again no matter who we'll have in midfield already.

I would even risk and say it's a crucial player to his late managerial career. Strootman breathes the philosophy. I still hope it may happen someday but first we will need extreme determination from player to return to his best. Fingers crossed for Stroot but as for now totally I agree despite Schweini's indisputable experience Schneiderlin fits the profile like no one else from available midfielders.

Thanks...thought he was kinda of a regular

He actually tends to disappear during the silly season, this tweet doesn't look like him.

I'm not even sure if we're in for him. I do think had it not been for Coquelin's emergence we would have signed him by now. For three summers in a row now we have had the chance but not really made a proper move.

Even though he is more proven and better than Coquelin I am not sure if he is the type of CM we need. So I'm not sure it is worth coughing up £25m for someone who doesn't solve our problems and not a significant improvement on what we have.

Everything I hear about Schneiderlin is about his tackles and energy. So I'm not expecting someone who can run the show. Him, Blind and Carrick is enough defensive cover.

Carrick can but is getting on. Herrera is good at it but he's more someone who likes to pass and move and get about the pitch.

Someone like Gundogan from sometime back, or Modric who have that ability to dictate is something we can do with.

Right but at his best for dortmund doesnt he have bender or someone doing the tracking back mostly...?

Whereas, he's exactly what we need. Hopefully, it will turn out like Firminio - we may have been interested at the right price but Liverpool needed him more than us, so that's where he ended up
