Profile wise Schneiderlin would be ideal. We currently only have Fellaini and Rooney as muscles in midfield, with Blind, Carrick and to a lesser extend Herrera as defensive midfield options. The only balanced midfield we can play with the current options is Fellaini-Carrick-Herrera, a fit Strootman is exactly what van Gaal needs to be able to play different midfield combinations since he always has 2 defensively good players.

I'm sure van Gaal wanted to wait last season to sign Strootman, but he got a setback and will only be ready just before preseason and therefore is a risk. He's a defensively good 8 who can play at 6 and also is a good passer, I see the same qualities in Schneiderlin. Players of that ilk are hard to find nowadays and Schneiderlin has the added benefit of being PL proven and isn't too expensive either compared to a Vidal. It would make alot of sense for this transfer to happen and therefore I'm optimistic, I think this will happen.

Vidal trumps all those being mentioned for me. I fully understand the logic in schneiderlin but he'd have to come up a level for me. Its like McCarthy of Everton in some ways. We sign either and the Big clubs of Europe probably take the stance we have with Liverpools current signings..."hmm not exactly a game changer". Don't get me wrong thats not how to conduct your business but for me any midfield trio we choose i.e. Carrick Schneiderlin Herrera is it enough to be where we want to be next season...and looking at the thread on whats expected of LVG next season....thats a tough call....

I'd have Schneiderlin over Vidal tbh mate. Given that he's younger, just as good but doesnt play for a big club, doesnt have question marks over his knee & is settled in England. Its a no-brainer for me..

That is completely fair enough I dont expect people to share my opinions. To be fair I'd have tiers in my head and tier 1 I'm looking at Pogba/Koke/Kroos/Modric and those of that ilk. Then next its down to the more realistic targets whom Schneiderlin may or may not get into depending on your opinion. I'm guessing LVG is thinking similarly.....if it wasnt for timing issues I'm not sure he'd be the one coming in but hey thats just me thinking aloud

There's nothing worse than seeing a potential singing' thread active and thinking something has happened, only to see a bunch of caftards having a long posted conversation.

Man, i totally respect your opinion. We all have our rock & roll list of players we feel would be ideal here, but the reality is - they might be a shit-buzz like Di Maria & Falcao.

I constantly have this dreamlist of players i want here, but the reality is - there will always be hungry players (wantin to prove something) with lower tier clubs that are capable of steppin up to our level & Schneiderlin is a player i regard as being in that group.

United have always sought to buy the best players in our league because we know what we're gettin & there's no cultural change too. I think that's vitally important if the player is on the same level or thereabouts, as a player at a foreign club.

If we get Schneiderlin - i reckon he'll be a beast for us & the difference between us being a winning machine again, or being 4th place scrappers without his like.

Scheiderlin & another CM (Gundogan preferably, but would love Schweinie also) & i'd be chuffed as f*ck big time..

Wonder who's in a bad mood then? ;)

We all want to see comfirmation of transfers Shark, but in the meantime - its great to discuss it with fellow reds. It gets things off yer chest & that's always a good thing in silly season :)

Yes I do believe most who want him here still think another midfielder would be needed on top. Gundogan I was a massive fan of. Whether he is up to it now I don't know. I watched his final 3 games and for all his ball playing ability his dynamism was no where to be seen. Di Maria I have
faith in to re-capture his early form. Heavily linked with Barca (messi comments) and Bayern (possible Robben/Ribery replacements). He's got it the team just needs to be structured better around him for him to thrive. Timing is huge. If Pogba rocks up at Real...would they sell Modric or Kroos..they've done stranger things. All that said I can see the logic in bringing in Scneiderlin or similar and waiting to see what develops with Class A targets so to speak.....

thought the Gooners were going to get him...

I think if we wanted him we would, but Wenger has always shown faith in players like Coq who make the step up.

I've heard that Arteta hasn't signed a new contract yet though so I wonder if he'll get somebody new in. Arteta is pretty much finished anyway.

Supposedly Arsenal sign him, how would they set up?

Next to Coq or replaces him?

I'm not sure Arsenal want him after Coquelin's performances last season. They've Arteta & Cazorla AND Ramsey! If they sign Schneiderlin that will be overkill.

Plenty of annoying English pissheads in bars all around Ireland these days

Yeah like the other weekend in Dublin, when the English fans were singin loyalist songs & God save the Queen in every pub they were in. Absolute mob mentality they have. Never want to see them here anytime soon. Pissed-up scumbags thinkin the own the place & being offensive to anyone that comes in their path!

Such a difference when the Scots came over the following weekend - brilliant craic they were & a shitload of them were Rangers fans & not one song of hate too. Scottish Celtic & Rangers fans were hangin out with each other all over town & had the craic too.

Brilliant weekend it was with those folk. Hope we get more games with Scotland in the future. Proper away fans to say the least..

whether he goes to you lot or not, Arsenal have a pretty solid midfield..and if they start well, never can tell.

They need a swineTiger more than anything. They've started well, finished well and done just about everything well except show the winning mentality and grit needed at vital times.

There's enough pubs in Dublin full of Travellers where English fans would behave in....

Clyne is another who could have improved our RB position considering we playing Valencia there, it's a shame we could not have signed both, strengthen the DM and RB positions and already we would be a quarter of the way there, with just another CB and CM along with a new GK of DDG does not stay to wrap up our buisness, and really strengthen the spin of our team. At this moment we have only strengthen the wing position

Clyne is shite. I'm delighted we avoided him.

Valencia has done fine. He's lightening quick, puts in a shift..positionally he's not great granted but he's better than Clyne for me and obviously LVG....

I disagree, we need a RB for the season to come. I think clyne is a really good defender who will get better, I don't think we should be playing makeshift RB's, and we will need one for the new season

That is a different point. Is Clyne the only option? Darmian...Fabinho....seamus Coleman.....Are you looking for ordinary you are a United fan looking at a player Southampton are losing for 12.5m with no fight and no scramble for his services tells a part of the story..the rest of the story is there are better!!

There has been plenty of players out there with the lack of competition, and some signings have surprised many. Does not mean they are bad players

No but taking everything into account jesus Cavajal may be possible and others he's at Liverpool uncontested by great managers for a reason.

And Vidal is an arrogant bastard who drives and crashes Ferraris with his wife in them in the middle of important tournaments.

Thats a dangerous road pal Giggs fecked his brothers missus! I discount where possible off field activities....

I hear you but I'm of the opinion that we already have the game-changing players in our team, hell one might argue one too many. Part of the reason, not entirely the reason, was the lack of balance and steel in our team which didn't provide as solid a platform for our attackers to perform or caused our manager to put the shackles on and force the team to play conservatively. I remember the games surrounding the Leicester debacle where we looked like we could score on every move but also looked like we would concede at any given moment. This is why I believe that a signing like him will take us to the next level, we are alreadt at the stage where we can go toe to toe with the best in this league for spells or a run of games sustaining that dominance is the issue made worse by an inability to make our possession count which a Di Maria return to form and Depay will hopefully help.

Yea but screwing your brothers sister while very morally questionable is not near as reckless as putting your own life and the life of others in danger through drunk driving. The man is lucky to be alive, lucky he didn't break his legs or kill his wife. Its not a mere question of 'dubious' off field activities. It was downright unprofessional and that's the last player you want playing for your team

What else can we talk about? Nothing is happening, anywhere. Gay Twitter rumours is all we have

I think Clyne is clearly better positionally, but that doesnt make him a very good right back. Just not a weak one

Ah well I'm in no way condoning drink driving at all let me be clear first and foremost. You have this on Vidal now and thats fine. But if you think a million other footballers havent had a sup and got behind the wheel of a car for me you are dreaming. Its wrong but my point is many get lucky...some dont...and quite rightly you judge accordingly I guess.

Arsenal being in the mix just reminds me of that other thread about things that seem to be the case always.

Arsenal only seem to buy midfielders.
