No players are valued at depreciated cost in the accounts.

So after 5 years they are valued at nil.

If a new contract is signed during the initial contract they depreciated cost at that time is spread over the new contract term.

Oh I see, I just learned about Fair Value at Uni so was trying to act smart :p

Not only after transfers. Explains why players like Rooney and Valencia flourished under certain systems but are struggling now. Or vice versa with Ashley Young.
Couldn't agree more. That is why I am generally sceptical about transfer talk or the idea that we need x player to fix this. Modern football is more than ever a team sport. Traditional individual talent outside of the attacking roles is not as emphasised or asked for. Players like Busquets, Piqué and many others are world class but they are so within the specific environment they're in. I am obviously not saying that anywhere else they would be an average 6 but the right system, conditions can make a player go from an 8 to a 9 or 10. The idea that talent and quality will easily be transferable after purchasing someone is absurd in the modern game.

Sounds like Morgan has a free choice between us and Arsenal. I am a bit worried again now that he might choose Arsenal - they are nearer to the finished article than us and there the "London factor" that foreign players love.

We'll probably offer more money, I'm not worried.

Surely Mess I is extremely reliant upon a system being played around him. The whole Barca team has more or less been built around him. One of his criticisms is he doesn't turn up for Argentina.
Well that is true which is why I used the term relatively. If I am going to use numbers, I would say that in the case of Messi, if he is a 10, then 9 (maybe 8 at his worst) of is is himself and 1 is the help he gets from Barcelona. Most players however especially midfielder and defenders, they're usually 6 or a 7 which is why they can easily perform at an 8 or 9 (world class) or their actual 6 (average).

Hes doesn't strike me as somebody who'd be desperate to move to London like Fabregas was.

I think Wenger trusts in Coquelin, who looked really good last season. And he's way too attack minded to play both.

Morgan is ours

Wenger will trust Coq to own the position and save 25 million quid for another position. I expect him to buy a cheaper back-up.

I think you need another good DM to have the option of playing Coquelin and another in tough games; Ozil can then direct the counter attack with security behind him and Sanchez, Welbeck/Walcott and Ox/Walcott as options going forward.

If you want to really compete in the CL you're going to have to be flexible tactically, because your squad (like ours) isn't up there with Barca, Madrid or Bayern.

Also, if you wanted to play an Italy in 2012/Juve 2015 diamond you might need another 2-way midfielder to go with Ramsey and Wilshere.

It doesn't have to be Schneiderlin, but if you've signed Cech, the only thing your squad needs more than a central midfielder with defensive skills is a couple of goalscorers up front or out right and Wenger ain't signing more than one of those.

They are looking at Vidal.
Hopefully not too hard.

Would be a good signing for them. I'm really hoping Wenger is as confident about his team as their fans are. Cech being their only significant signing will make me worry alot less about them next year.

Van Gaal asked for schwein, and ended up with schneid. Good job Ed!

Carrick, Schneiderlin and Herrera aren't playmakers?

An upgrade is always nice but we do lack a midfielder who's biggest strenths are defensive.
Everything I hear about Schneiderlin is about his tackles and energy. So I'm not expecting someone who can run the show. Him, Blind and Carrick is enough defensive cover.

Carrick can but is getting on. Herrera is good at it but he's more someone who likes to pass and move and get about the pitch.

Someone like Gundogan from sometime back, or Modric who have that ability to dictate is something we can do with.

I was thinking the price might mean Arsenal might not be the lock down destination a lot of people make them out to be. Fair enough you guys spent big on Sanchez and Ozil but they were creative players coming from Barca and Madrid to boot.

There's nothing to suggest we're close to signing him. Star, Sun and Express articles are worth less then nothing. All this excitement over nothing really.

Reading between the lines, I reckon Arsenal want him the most, but don't want to pay the price. While we consider him backup if other deals (Bastian) fall through.
