@JazzG Any idea if he's coming to Arsenal?

I highly doubt we would at £25m, seems a bit much to me. We are interested but none of the usual sources are mentioning anything. If Coquelin hadn't emerged we would have wrapped this deal up by now but now I'm not so sure. Schneiderlin is similar to him. Defensively not that much in it but Schneiderlin is a better passer of the ball. Personally I can't justify spending £25m on that position when the improvement wouldn't for me be significant. I'd rather we spend big money on a great passer from deep. Basically I'd rather we signed a better version of Arteta than Coquelin!

Rumour had it we were in for Kondogbia, his wage demands and the Milan clubs getting in a bidding war put us off that quickly. No way is he worth the money he went for.

Fergie's transfer record in his last few seasons was pretty poor. Especially when it came to United's midfield.

It was poor but he almost always won the league regardless, so missing out on targets over the summer never really bothered me. I don't have anything like the same faith in Van Gaal getting our noses ahead of Chelsea, City and Arsenal without a flawless performance from him and Woody between now and the end of the summer transfer window.

If we're interested in signing him, we should really be getting him over Arsenal. We can outbid them, offer better wages and aside from Herrera, Carrick and Blind, one of which is turnig 34, we are lacking quality compared to Arsenal.

What if he just prefers to stay in London like other do?

Then you are being an idiot. In one season whilst "rebuilding" LVG has done great in the top 4 matchups. If he gets the players he wants in and has the team the way he wants them to play then he will definitely get his noses infront. People are letting SAF off lightly with the shape he left the team in.

If...

Which is exactly what I just said.

Yes, it's SAFs fault we spent over £200m on players since he left and not really identified the right players for us.

Ferguson won with that team, why should he change it? Only mistake Fergie did was picking his successor.

No, Fergie was buying the likes of Bebe and Buttner instead of Hazard etc. He won because he was the greatest manager in the game and his players knew it but if you cant see we under invested then you are blind.

Why should he invest, when he won? Why not let his successor do that, if they need to. 5 leagues in his last 7 years, were you blind then?

The same Hazard, who was going to Chelsea anyway despite interest from us and Man City.

I'd be pretty miffed if we don't sign him, he's the ideal replacement for Carrick. Can only see the reason we don't get him is cause, we're getting Schweinsteiger and LVG thinks some of the youth will step up, in the next season or two.

Ferguson was trying to invest in the future, he just did it badly.

Chelsea invested in Hazard and many others but won how many compared to Fergie in his last years?

Pretty calm about this and judging by his recent comments I reckon it'll be wrapped up within the week.

wasnt it Hazard that we didnt buy because we refused to pay the extortinate fee that his agent wanted on top?

We underinvested because SAF could win without buying well. The Glazers pocketed the cash because they could. Now they can't.

It was. Sparked inevitable outpour of people glorifying United saying we're so dignified in the market and that hinders us.

I just hope that given how well Coquelin did for Arsenal in the latter stages of the season will sway Wenger from going for Schneidy.

btw one day after i quipped "Morgan Free Man" in this thread, the Daily Mirror ran it as a headline.

So stop lurking you lazy shower of journos, get your own material!

(or is one of you lot a damn journo? show yourself)

I really think they look at this site for material. They always seem to be taking stuff from here.

That's my hope too. It's likely I think, very likely.

I mean, Wenger likes his young guns. Would be harsh to drop Coq. Then they have to fit Ramsey and peak-Wilshere, as well as Sanchez and Ozil. Heck, maybe even Cazorla.

Coqelin
Ramsey Cazorla

Ozil ----------- Sanchez

Giroud

That's without Wilshere and Schneiderlin. No need to get greedy now Arsenal :nervous: :wenger:

Plus arteta and flamini are still at the club, haven't heard rumours of them being sold.

With all due respect but the last time I've checked SAF's last team had Vidic, Rio and Evra in defense, Scholes and Giggs in midfield and Rooney and RVP upfront. Its not as if he won the league with Smalling, Jones, Cleverley and Ando as first teamers.

In my opinion its a huge disrespect in saying that SAF left the club without any plans for the future. No legend who truly love the club would be so irresponsible to do so. Having said that, his obsession in 'value' and not allowing agents to take a cut of the fee proved lethal. We lost out on true talent like Hazard, Moura and god knows who else because of it.

There's the age and fitness issues too. If our answer to Carrick coming to the end is signing a 30 year old who played 15 league games this season, it seems very shortsighted

Well, if LVG believes that he can do something with one of Rothwell, Pearson or Mcnair then it makes a lot of sense. Otherwise you are right, that's shortsighted.

Yep, the only reason they have started splashing the cash now is because we fell out of the Champions League and can't afford to do so again, commercial / sponsorship-wise - prior to that they took the CL for granted and didn't think we could drop out

Let's not forget that SAFs very presence made it easier to sign players. Moyes didn't have the same pull. Not even on the same planet in that respect. Then we dropped out of the CL and money had to make up the difference.

This. He stopped buying and promoting elite talent because he could squeeze an extra mile from his existing crop. We could have had Hazard. We could have kept Pogba. These were a persistent pattern of errors born of wrong strategy, not isolated errors of judgement.

And quite rightly too, Six million quid to some blood sucking parasite for feck all, sickening!

I respect your principles and share your disgust but such scruples really have no place in the elite football industry, which is itself an obscenity of global proportions. Might as well switch sports if you feel like that.

I probably will one day sadly, I still love the game but find myself more and more disgusted with everything off pitch year on year.
