If he gos to Arsenal, they are sure to finish 2nd.

Schneiderlin and Cech are surely great signings. Id rather have them than the some 29-31 year olds in search of a final pay cheque

Is there any half credible source that says hes chosen Arsenal over us? Or is wave of sudden pessimism just caftards being nervous?

Unless we have a better option lined up, we better not miss on this guy!

I'm not sure there is a better option for the type of player we need in our midfield.

I was a big Vidal muppet last year and in the years before that, I was always talking about Schweinsteiger being the perfect signing. I think before Schweinsteiger it was Gattuso (jesus we've taken our sweet time to replace Keane)! I didn't watch enough of him in the last couple of years to be convinced about him being the answer for us.

But I'm in Singapore at the moment and one of the sports channels here is showing back to back games from this seasons prem. By chance, Southampton have been on several of the evenings this week and I've watched 4 of the games. I really didn't realise how good he is. Had a look on WhoScored and the stats back him up - he is well ahead of any of the midfielders being talked about, including Bastian, Vidal, Nainggolan, Pogba. At 25 and for the money being suggested, he should be our number one target.

From James Ducker:

Manchester United have made an opening bid of about £32 million for Sergio Ramos as they seek to exploit the Spain defender’s fallout with Real Madrid, and are also in pole position to sign Morgan Schneiderlin from Southampton.
United’s offer for Ramos, which was submitted in writing, came as the centre back underlined his intention to leave Real this summer during talks with José Ángel Sánchez, the chief executive, at the club’s Valdebebas training ground yesterday morning.
Ramos’s contract stand-off with Real has turned ugly in recent days because the player is convinced that he has been the victim of a smear campaign orchestrated by Florentino Perez, the club’s president, since indicating privately that he would be prepared to leave the Bernabéu.
Despite the escalating acrimony, Ramos remains hopeful that Real will drop the £129 million buyout clause in his contract out of respect for his service over the past decade in the hope of pushing through a move to Old Trafford.
It is thought that a bid of about £45 million would be enough to persuade Real to sell, although United harbour reservations about paying so much for a 29-year-old with no resale value.
The cash offer for Ramos is believed to be independent of David De Gea’s prospective move to Real, but United view the situation as intertwined and are likely to use their Spain goalkeeper as leverage in an effort to secure the defender. United are also favourites to beat Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur to the signing of Schneiderlin, the £24 million-rated France midfielder, who said yesterday that he expects his future to be resolved shortly.
Southampton are resigned to losing Schneiderlin, who has two years left on his contract at St Mary’s, although it remains to be seen if Louis van Gaal, the United manager, moves for the 25-year-old in addition to Bastian Schweinsteiger, of Bayern Munich.
“The negotiations should be completed in the coming days, hopefully before the resumption of [pre-season] training next week,” he told the France Bleu Alsace radio station.
Ramos, who has two years left on his contract at Real, was requesting an increase of about £3 million on his annual net salary and was furious at attempts to paint him as a mercenary, a position reinforced by those close to him.
Pedro Riesco, who works with Ramos’s brother and agent, told Radio Marca on Tuesday: “With everything that has happened, it will be very difficult for Sergio to stay at Madrid. There is so much manipulation to discredit his name via spokesmen who behave like puppets, saying he is not respecting the club and that he is just a money-grabber.”
If Ramos moved to United, he would be reunited with Ángel Di María, his former Real team-mate, who, despite admitting yesterday to being unsettled in Manchester, appeared to rule out the prospect of leaving. Barcelona were reported to be the latest club interested in signing the Argentina winger, who endured a dismal debut season in the wake of his British record £59.7 million move from Real, but insisted that he was determined to win back his place after starting only one of the final ten matches of last term.
“It was difficult for me to be a substitute,” he told Olé, the Argentine daily sports newspaper at the Copa America in Chile, where he is competing.
“For me, for my family, because things are not going as you want, because I am not playing, because you go in with one intention and you end up on the bench. It was a bit difficult to explain why I was not playing, although it was not the case that, because I cost a lot of money, I had to be a starter.”
Asked if he would consider leaving United, Di María said: “No, I am not someone who thinks like that. At Madrid, there were moments when the whole stadium whistled me, but in the end things turned around. I like to take things on when it seems difficult, to show what I have been doing for years.”
Another unsettled United winger, Nani, is close to joining Fenerbahçe for £7 million.

I don't think Arsenal will sign him. Wenger will play Coquelin. Wenger likes to bring his own through.

Just because he's french ?

Canal+ are usually well informed, especially when it comes to Arsenal, and if they say that a player chased by Wenger is not going there, I would believe them

Anyway, it would be a very good signing for us.
Partly the French link where I feel Wenger has a lot of clout, but it's an overriding get feeling on him joining Arsenal with a smidgen of logic. He'd be a great signing for you if he joins United.

So Arsenal are a bit take it or leave it because they've enough cover in that position already, while we're absolutely desperate for someone with Schneiderlin's qualities. We should be camped out Southampton's fecking training ground, with sackfuls of cash. We paid them 30m quid for a fullback, this bloke will cost significantly less. The deal should be done already ffs.

You seriously have no faith in the van Gaal/Woodward power combo do you. Most invested (and desperate/anxious) I have seen you in a transfer window.

From my understanding, he says in that interview that negotiations are ongoing and his transfer should be completed in the coming days. Maybe one of our French speakers could translate it better?

About his future, Morgan Schneiderlin remained coy. The Southampton midfieder is courted by Manchester United and Arsenal, coached by Arsène Wenger who is also Alsacien (meaning being from the Alsace region (east of france)). The negotiations are ongoing and should come to a conclusion in the coming days, I hope before the training sessions resume next week, did Morgan Schneiderlin entrust to France Blue Alsace (news station from that region).

Echoes my thoughts entirely.

I usually don't get too worked-up over incoming transfers/missed transfers - but I'll be pretty miffed if we lose out on him.

So this guy or Schweinsteiger? Same position (somewhat), virtually same name. I'm going with Schneiderlin, though it would look pretty cool on the team sheet to have them both starting.

I just called a friend who has some contact, and actually he is a friend of Gilles Grimandi, Arsenal's scout for France, and French players.

Grimandi said to him that Arsenal lead the way for him

If we're interested in signing him, we should really be getting him over Arsenal. We can outbid them, offer better wages and aside from Herrera, Carrick and Blind, one of which is turnig 34, we are lacking quality compared to Arsenal.

Maybe Schneiderlin has a preference for Arsenal considering their interest is long-standing unlike ours and Wenger is a big draw for French players. I do hope we're in for him but if we miss out it's not the end of the world.

Arsenal have a lot of quality further up the pitch, but I'm pretty sure Schneiderlin would fancy his chances of beating Coquelin to the deep role.

Be gutted if he goes Arsenal, so he'll most likely go there.

I know we are after Schweinsteiger, but he's 31, never played the Premier League and has had his injuries. Probably not a great choice for covering/replacing Carrick.

I'd rather have the the 25 year old whose had 200+ games in English football.
