Dithering Dave happened. Nothing more, nothing less. The similiarties still apply. Just because we baulked at the ridiculous Baines price tag, doesn't make it untrue.

Everything that LvG and was written in the press suggested that Van Gaal wants his business done very early. Mitten wrote in ESPN that we thought we had 2-3 deals already done and only got Depay. You have to take a look at the market, and guess what? without a WC or EC it dries up very fast.

Who would you suggest would be as fitting as Kondogbia/Schneiderlin for us in this price segment? Sorry, If I need to get a grip, just because I can read the obvious signs.

How does the similarities still apply when the obvious fecking fact that is we've signed already one of our top targets or are we not counting Depay now because it was a relatively easy deal?

And on what basis have you thought that Schneiderlin to us isn't gonna happen? Are you basing that upon Saints forums ITK? Sorry to say but you aren't reading any signs, you're just being ridiculously negative.

I can't see how schweinstiger would ever be a better buy than schneiderlin. Younger, more energetic, defensively solid and at home in the league, will be a missed opportunity if we didn't want him.

No, it was more of an if and I just randomly checked twitter and saw all this talk about Schneiderlin and AFC, thought it had more substance. The huge difference is that NEITHER Fellaini nor Baines were our first choice that summer. I'm not overly negative. Just given everything we've heard we only managed to close the only deal that was a given in the first place.

Xhaka, Krychowiak, Imbula, L. Bender, Allan, Parejo, Nainggolan, etc.

Xhaka is the only one on that list I'd prefer to Schneiderlin though. I haven't seen some of them often to be fair, but read or seen some good things from all of them.

Edit: Parejo has just renewed his contract until 2020.

Xhaka is great but just had his breakout season as a DM, definitely wouldn't mind him. Krychowiak seems to be the new hipster signing after his good ECL final. L. Bender is good but hasn't progressed that well in the last few years, Don't know Allan, Parejo would be great but like you said just renewed his contract and Nainggolan is more of a b2b CM, not a DM.

Hold on people, I'm not giving up on this yet!

This is what the telegraph reported 2 days ago:

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/fo...lham-on-loan-as-cover-for-Fraser-Forster.html

Southampton are also delighted that Slattery, the England Under-16 captain, has agreed a professional deal. He turned 16 only this year and so could still have left the club despite graduating through the academy. Both Arsenal and Manchester United were keen.

Another Saints player of interest to both Arsène Wenger and Louis van Gaal is Morgan Schneiderlin, with Manchester United expected to make a bid imminently. Southampton value Schneiderlin at £25 million and that fee, coupled with the midfield emergence of Francis Coquelin and Santi Cazorla, has caused some hesitation at Arsenal. Wenger had wanted to sign Schneiderlin in January.

I don't mean this as a criticism but I think this has become a new trend on Caf..people just love to assume any negative news related to pur targets as true regardless of where it has come from and then have a moan on here.

The last report I read on Schneiderlin was from Jeremy Wilson of Telegraph(who is reliable on Arsenal and Southampton) who said that Arsenal have some doubts over him due to emergence of Coquelin while a bid from us will be placed imminently.

He's not LVG's friend

Yeah I read that too, like I said I just checked on twitter and saw all this talk about Schneiderlin to AFC and assumed it must have more substance than slashing the odds or any ITK bullshit. I really thought there would be more movement by now and I just don't think Schweinsteiger could replace Carrick, even for a few years. Very different players.

We'll have to wait and see but for now I simply don't like what's been reported (Mitten knows his stuff so if he says we thought we had 2-3 deals in the bag, something must've happened already there)

Krychowiak isn't some hipster signing as you put it. He has consistently played well for Sevilla. Essentially he's a pure destroyer, who's very good at winning the ball back, but his passing is decent as well. He needs someone like Carrick or Xhaka alongside him though. Physically he's ridiculous and well suited to the EPL. Bender had one of his best seasons last year. Allan is playing for Udinese and has been one of the best central midfielders in Italy outside of Juventus and Roma in the last couple of seasons. He's similar to Vidal, without the goals. Not sure what your point with Nainggolan is, you asked for box-to-box and defensive midfield players and I named some. Xhaka was decent before last season. He showed his talent for Basel as well.

There has been no confirmation on Cech and all this Schneiderlin to Arsenal has been based upon on something said upon a saints web forums. The fact so far remains that none of Chelsea, City and Arsenal have signed any player.

And I don't consider Liverpool as our rivals for next season.
I agree, but maybe we are in a situation that demands more urgency as none of the above teams have to pre-qualify for the CL. I don't know whether this makes a massive difference, but I reckon the sooner we can bring players in the better, as qualification, at this stage, is supposed to be that much more difficult as the seeding system no longer applies ( or so I think? ).
Still too early to spaz-out, but I hope by early July we've got at least one or two in.

Nope the seeding system still applies so we'll be avoiding the tougher teams (Roma etc) though I'll be very surprised and disappointed if we haven't got at least two more in time for our preseason tour.

If Arsenal get Schneiderlin and Cech, I'd put them very slightly behind Chelsea to win the league, mainly because of the Mourinho factor.

It would be too sensible for us to but schneiderlein, we are much more likely to be taken in by an ageing big name player or someone we don't really need. This is the kind of player we should be signing and the could be sorted quickly if we wanted him.

According to a Southampton fan forum, we've met Southampton's asking price but Schneiderlin is delaying it to see if Man Utd make an offer. Not sure how true.

I'm reading online that the latest Schneiderlin to Arsenal rumour has been generated by a flurry of bets on that outcome.

Ridiculous stuff.

This should be wrapped up by now to be honest. He's surely not on holiday still, is he? Even if we buy Schweinsteiger, Schneiderlin is one of the best and most affordable midfielders of which are available we can get right now.

Well if the rumour of us giving Schweinstegier until the end of the week to give us an answer. then these reports could all stack up.

The layout of that forum is giving me a headache. It's good to visit some rival forums now and again to be reminded how much better the caf is.

Yeah, its a bit naff aint it

Oh bugger I knew someone would ask me that, I know it was a UK newspaper just not sure which... my head spins sometimes with the amount I read on United, most of it crap, I really need to get a life.

Apparently Curtis from the Sun said so, thanks though
