Listen, this guy was clearly our back up plan - Schweinsteiger is first choice and rightly so. Lets just hope we don't mess that one up!

You just said it, our plan A is a Bayern legend, who hasnt made up his mind. Just like Otamendi and Ramos, we have a massive risk of not getting decent and gettable players in.

That's the risk when you go for the best

Schneiderlin could play higher up the pitch as well to make us more balanced.
A midfield three of Schweinsteiger, Herrera and Schneiderlin with Carrick, Blind, Fellaini, Pereira as covers would be ideal.
If Di Maria is staying I would say he would have a spot nailed down by seasons end. The fact he is staying tells me he'll put his head down and get back to his best. It would be easy for him to join PSG or Munich and leave last season behind him.
Plus Fellani has been fantastic, were all assuming he's not starting next year, but if he were to start then it radically changes the transfer approach.

Well there is enough indication that we want Schweinsteiger who is twice the player.
He's also half as fit and is nearly 31 years old. Don't get me wrong, I'd like us to sign him, but I could easily see that transfer not really working out that well. With Schneiderlin I think it's pretty clear what he would add to the team, can't imagine it not being a solid addition. With Schweinsteiger I feel like anything could happen

Sure hope it's us he's talking with, but I doubt it. Small caveat but at least it will be wrapped up earlier. Hopefully make us pull our finger out on alternate targets.

This seems to shape up remarkably like the 2013 summer. Our top targets are crazy deals and our plan B's are getting away.

I wasn't keen on Schneiderlin in the first place, but with Kondogbia already gone, I really thought we'd get him. Which good DM/b2b are still left in the market?

Exactly like the 2013 window except of the fact that we've already signed one of our top targets.

See also Fabregas, Bale, Ronaldo, Alves...

This new policy of aiming for the highest profile most well-known footballers in the world has been a disaster so far, so why persist with it? All that happens is we're lead a merry dance and panic buy right before the window closes. Feck that.

Where are these Arsenal rumours coming from? Is this just based on twitter and the bookies?

Kind of funny that the Arsenal fans are all saying that it has to be United and everyone here is saying it has to be Arsenal

Yeah, the one player that LvG could've gotten over any other team in the world.

I don't think that many of you guys have actually seen Schweinsteiger play in the last few years? Schweinsteiger had played his best football as the b2b player in a double pivot. Him along side Herrera would make us extremely prone defensively and I don't think they'd fit together THAT well. What we need is a DM with a good passing range and that's certainly not Schweinsteiger. Javi Martinez would be perfect tbh, but no chance of getting him.

Obviously he will end up signing for Chelsea or City then. Whether they need him or not is irrelevant.

We have CL football and higher wages on offer. Cech might be swung by the London factor but if we couldn't convince Schneiderlin then either we didn't want him or made a real cock-up of our negotiations with him. Either way, it's a worry. Especially if we passed him over for an aging crock who might never leave Bayern. We'll look like absolute spanners if we missed out on this bloke chasing another unobtainable megastar like Bale, Ronaldo or Fabregas. Bird in the hand and all that. Plus there's a very good chance we get to endure watching him help Arsenal finish ahead of us. Again. Yay.
Yeah so far it's reminding of our scattergun approach in the Moyes summer. Or even at the end of last summer.

This will be fecking stupid on our part, Schweinsteiger is 31, always injured and only has the legs to play as a #6 these days.

A few people on saints web are saying they've heard he's off to Arsenal. Feck knows if they know anything but Arse fans seem to think the Chambers transfer broke the same way.

That could've been applied to Fellaini and Baines too. Remind me, what happened to them?

Its funny that people here are losing their shit when none of our domestic rivals have not signed a single player combined. Its just June and comparisons are already made to that transfer window. People here need to get a grip.

Cech, Firmino...

Fair point about it being too early to lose out shit but people can only comment on how things look at any moment. Right now, there's a lot of people talking up Schneiderlin to Arsenal. Which sucks balls.

Saw this on the thread the Southampton thread:

Yet to see anything posted on here with regards to Morgan from anyone I personally would put credence in. There are some proper, well established ITKs on here who post very very good information, and some quieter ITKs who post good information by omission (if you follow).

I'm not saying anything stupid like Morgan isn't off, but for me I've yet to see info from anyone I trust.

The gooners on Twitter are linking to this exact thread as their evidence of a done deal too ffs!

There has been no confirmation on Cech and all this Schneiderlin to Arsenal has been based upon on something said upon a saints web forums. The fact so far remains that none of Chelsea, City and Arsenal have signed any player.

And I don't consider Liverpool as our rivals for next season.

Wow. It takes quite sth to be wrong so many times in such a short post

I wasn't wrong at all, he is injury riddled, he only manages to play half the games-in the last 2 seasons. He also doesn't have the engine to play box to box anymore.

Question is, do Arsenal even need him? They have that Coquelin lad breaking through, isn't it?

I thought that he was Arsenal bound for years, but now I'm not so sure anymore.

Dithering Dave happened. Nothing more, nothing less. The similiarties still apply. Just because we baulked at the ridiculous Baines price tag, doesn't make it untrue.

Everything that LvG and was written in the press suggested that Van Gaal wants his business done very early. Mitten wrote in ESPN that we thought we had 2-3 deals already done and only got Depay. You have to take a look at the market, and guess what? without a WC or EC it dries up very fast.

Who would you suggest would be as fitting as Kondogbia/Schneiderlin for us in this price segment? Sorry, If I need to get a grip, just because I can read the obvious signs.

Liar! They signed this Vlad from romania.

Xhaka, Krychowiak, Imbula, L. Bender, Allan, Parejo, Nainggolan, etc.

Xhaka is the only one on that list I'd prefer to Schneiderlin though. I haven't seen some of them often to be fair, but read or seen some good things from all of them.

Edit: Parejo has just renewed his contract until 2020.
