The cynic in me thinks we could be waiting to announce a transfer or two to increase shirt sales pre-tour...
Might be on to something there. If terms were agreed with a player it tended to leak out and get picked up by all the nationals. Now there is so much shit flying about its hard to decipher the genuine leaks and whats bullshit.

More likely that Southampton are sorting out a replacement before anything is completed/announced. I'm just hoping that we aren't dithering on other targets and get this done as soon as we can. Schweinsteiger should be a bonus not our first choice IMO.

Think he'll go to Arsenal whilst we mess about trying to sign Schweinsteiger.

I can see it especially now Kondogbia is not available. I think now Cech is near enough done I expect them to move on to other targets. Kind of what I expect us to be doing, not just having a starring role in some shit fest with Real when everyone knows there will only be one winner.

Schneiderlin: "Les négociations sont en cours et devraient aboutir dans les prochains jours, j'espère avant la reprise de l'entraînement la semaine prochaine", a confié Morgan Schneiderlin à France Bleu Alsace."

Google translate:
Negotiations are ongoing and should be completed in the coming days , hopefully before the resumption of training next week ," Morgan Schneiderlin to France Bleu Alsace.

So this saga ends in a few days.

He's supposedly said that his future will be sorted in the next few days. Just had a look on a saints forum and they all seem to have heard that he's off to Arsenal for 25m. Will be absolutely gutted if so.

This seems to shape up remarkably like the 2013 summer. Our top targets are crazy deals and our plan B's are getting away.

I wasn't keen on Schneiderlin in the first place, but with Kondogbia already gone, I really thought we'd get him. Which good DM/b2b are still left in the market?

So Cech and Schneiderlin goes to Arsenal, Firmino goes to Liverpool, Otamendi goes to City, De Gea leaves. Shaping up to be a great window..

A good mate of mine who I used to be in the forces with, is telling me it's Arsenal who are negotiating with MS. The guy is now part of the youth and women's physio team at Arsenal.
This is straight up and no wind up.

It's pretty obvious it's Arsenal. Hope we end up getting Schweinsteiger.

Much rather have Schneiderlin. :(

He's younger I'll give you that. And not as prone to injuries. Schweinsteiger's a class above him as a footballer though. Schweinsteiger could be the real deal short term (as long as he stays fit).

Would be weird to see arsenal getting both Cech and Schneiderlin ahead of us.

Would be INCREDIBLY pissed off if we had any chance to sign this guy and let him go to Arsenal instead. Would raise serious doubts about the decision-makers at United.

Agreed. If we feck this up, it'd be a real shame. Unless he wants to go to Arsenal but I've not come across anything that points to it.

The guy is tailor made to replace Carrick. We could fit him and Schweinsteiger in the same team.

I will be annoyed too.

We either were not interested, in which case I'd agree with you, or we have an even better option in our hands, or he just didnt want to come. We might never though.

Sweinsteiger
Carrick
Blind
More than enough cover IMO, doesn't surprise me we would focus our resources elsewhere.

Yeah, add me to the "annoyed if he goes to Arse" list as well. Unless we have a similar but superior player lined up instead, of which there is no indication except for multiple reports of wanting a #6 type player.

Looking at some Arsenal fans tweets, a lot don't even want him unless it's as Coquelins backup

Well there is enough indication that we want Schweinsteiger who is twice the player.

Listen, this guy was clearly our back up plan - Schweinsteiger is first choice and rightly so. Lets just hope we don't mess that one up!

Sweinsteiger
Carrick
Blind

Blind hasnt been great there to be fair. If Carrick gets injured, we'd only have schweinsteiger. We still lack depth in b2b midfield.

Schweiny is far from certain to come here really. And given that neither him or Schneiderlin is going to cost a bomb, why not buy both?

Sweinsteiger

Schneiderlin could play higher up the pitch as well to make us more balanced.
A midfield three of Schweinsteiger, Herrera and Schneiderlin with Carrick, Blind, Fellaini, Pereira as covers would be ideal.

This. If Schweinsteiger is our only midfield signing then we're still short in the department.

Yeah. But who would have imagined two of these going their way some years back.

We have CL football and higher wages on offer. Cech might be swung by the London factor but if we couldn't convince Schneiderlin then either we didn't want him or made a real cock-up of our negotiations with him. Either way, it's a worry. Especially if we passed him over for an aging crock who might never leave Bayern. We'll look like absolute spanners if we missed out on this bloke chasing another unobtainable megastar like Bale, Ronaldo or Fabregas. Bird in the hand and all that. Plus there's a very good chance we get to endure watching him help Arsenal finish ahead of us. Again. Yay.
