Maybe I could have phrased that in a better way but my post was made in the context of us preferring Bastien over Schneiderlin, when we could have both. And the Di Maria/Mata signings are the ones that reinforce my argument, one could argue that we don't know how to use them, we signed them merely for their profile as world class players who were available but ultimately we haven't gotten the best out of them due to structural issues and in Di Maria's case a post Madrid hangover that has maybe affected his motivation - that is $100m down the drain.

Look at Juventus and Chelsea (to an extent), they are always making some smart moves in the market for a fraction of what we are spending and are way ahead of us. Maybe I'm mixing up issues but we haven't been using our money wisely for a very long time.
Shaw, Herrera, Blind and Depay all fit the criteria you outlined though. The difference between ourselves and the likes of Chelsea is that we needed a complete rebuild while Chelsea can just add a couple of players here and there. All our experienced players left or retired at the same time so players like Swine's Tiger can be brought in to provide that experience. I do agree with you though that in an ideal world we should really sign both.

Too quiet on the Scheiderlin transfer. No leaks to media from clubs, agents or player. Seems a deal has been already been agreed somewhere.

Agreed. He's definitely moving, the question is where. I'm sure in our case, there are other moving parts in terms of the availability other midfielders like Gundogan as well.

He would be so perfect for us, the added bonus is that he knows the epl and therefore no settling period is required.

Surely we're his best option. He would walk into the starting lineup. Let's face it, midfield is not our strong point and he would have less competition here than at our top level opponents, really all of which have stronger midfield options.

It's a great fit both ways, and as such he's worth more to us than others clubs, and thus our offer should naturally be larger.

Seeing Barca and Juve progress through the CL, with squads that have Iniesta, Xavi, Busquets, Rakitic, Rafinha, Sergio, Vidal, Pogba, Marchisio, Pirlo, makes me utterly weep that all we have is Carrick and a mysterious empty cloud of gas as options.

Sign them both. Sign everyone.

I hear ya man. Sick of us pissing around & not buying CM's that's gonna improve us immensely. Herrera was only a start. Get it sorted now United!

Signing both Schneiderlin and Schweinsteiger makes loads of sense from our perspective.

However from Schneiderlin's perspective, would the signing of Schweinsteiger be off putting? It's additional competition for a starting place.

Potentially, but to be honest given Schweiny's age he'd probably just be happy to have the opportunity to play alongside him.

not sure about that. I mean, it'd be awesome if he was signed up, but from his perspective I guess Arsenal would make the most sense. He (besides a GK and possibly a striker) is basicaly what Arsenal needs to take the next step up. Fair enough Coquelin had a great 2nd half of the season, but anyone not deeming him as an improvement over Coquelin is either blind, deluded, or retarded. Plus they could actualy use both of them.

And then he'll be Morgan Free Man

I would be slightly upset if we don't move for him and just let Arsenal swoop in. Him, Cech and a decent striker would see them as serious title contenders next season no doubt.

That said my Arsenal supporting mate insists that Coquelin was a revelation for them last year so do they actually need him?

I'll be fecking livid if we had a serious chance of signing this guy but he ends up at Arsenal, whether or not we sign Pigsticker. This bloke, plus Cech, will make it incredibly hard to finish ahead of them next season, never mind the oil billionaire clubs. And that's assuming we can find someone equally as good (who though?)

you always need cover so what if coquelin's injured. They wouldn't do anything bad with signing him. That would certainly boost their chances to win the title. But knowing Wenger he will count on him and Arteta and stick to Walcott as a striker cover/no1 so we should be okay... yeah but schneiderlin would make them look completely different beast IMO, they would be very solid if they played Schneid next to Coq but every team in the league would be more solid with him. I hope we are after him, he's my dream signing..

maybe we were never really in for him and the rumor originated from the caf.

It certainly did not, United are in for him. The lad's been on holiday.

Last I heard about this was a deal was close. This would be a great signing for us so I hope it goes through.

Do you think that he might be one of those "Plan B" signings though, i.e. Schweiny is first choice and Schneidy comes into play if we don't get him? Obviously both would be good but the club might not want two

Hasnt Wilshere proved himself capable as a deep lying cover option at least this year....

I really don't know to be honest. I'd heard about Schneiderlein long before Schweinsteiger hit the news.

Going back a good couple of weeks now to be honest, and I haven't heard anything negative since.

The same person I heard this off was also close to the Shaw deal - he was consistently saying he was definitely coming to United even when the papers were saying he was 100% off to Chelsea etc.

Same person also told me about Matt Radcliffe going before the papers had it too. No reason to not believe the chap in all honesty.
