He has played very well in those games I agree, but mostly from a defensive standpoint as opposed to his work on the ball. As I said to ravi, if we are looking to pair him with a playmaker then sure, but LvG might be wanting to try and get a 2 in 1 CM, which again I admit is likely going to be difficult.

Wanyama is hardly the best on the ball, good box to box player. He must of done his fare share of the football to get that partnership working. Before Wanyama came he was playing with Jack Cork and Steven Davis. He'd be fine with Carrick or Herrera.

He can fill multiple positions - left back, defence and midfield (a bit like Blind). Young, strong, good on the ball with good passing abilities, will cost less and is younger than Schneiderlin.

I see, Schneiderlin has all those qualities and Kondogbia being younger doesn't make him better at all, he's not. And there's really no way for us to know who will cost what at this point. Strootman is not multi-functional but LVG loves him and would have signed him if not for his injury, being very good at your specific role and winning your individual battle is a key in LVG's system, Schneiderlin fits that bill nicely. Anyway, there's nothing wrong with you rating Kondogbia higher anyway.

Nah Kondogbia is not better IMO yet. He hasn't established himself at this point, he's still young and has the potential to be one of the best in his position, depending on how he will develop.

With the EUR being weak these days I believe most of the similar quality players will be a lot cheaper from the continent.

The likes of Kondogbia and Carvalho are in the same boat i guess. Described as talented players but nonetheless still not proven to be world class.

I think he'd be fine alongside Carrick but I see him and Herrera as too similar to compliment each other, neither can control or dictate play.

He's on football island with Memphis, Pogba and Lukaku.

Probably another one of those second choice candidates we'll miss out on after dicking about on our primary ones.

This signing is a no brainier. He's premiership proven and can provide the qualities we lack when Carrick is injured.

If we manage to get two out of Schneiderlin, Gundogan or Schweinsteiger to help our central midfield options then that will be a very successful summer. Really do hope we bring in Schneiderlin and he doesn't end up at Arsenal or another rival, very good player who will be worth the money for whoever signs him. Good for Southampton if they manage to keep him but I can't see it happening.

As a (recent) starter for the French national side you'd expect Schneiderlin would want to be playing for a top side, in the CL. Two out of him, Gundogan and Schweinsteiger would be amazing business, regardless of which two.

Curious to know why he's not been linked with either Milan team. Theyve been linked with Imbula, Kondogbia - surely schneiderlin would rate a link.

I guess Cuz he's already come saying he wants CL football. Something Milan teams can't offer him

Agreed. We need 2 top CMs and any 2 of the quoted 3 would be excellent. Add that with otamendi and a decent right back we are not far off chelsea imo.citeh and arsenal are going to inprove as well so we need to get our signings very right.

According to Charlie Wyatt,Arsenal have all but sealed the deal for Schneiderlin.Another potential target gone.

Who the feck is Charlie Wyatt?

I hope that isn't true because Woodward would get crucified by everyone (including myself) if he messes up with that one.

I figure a RB, CB, 2 CMs + maybe a striker. £120m would do it, but brings our squad up to a point where we're challenging on all fronts again. After that, some players could be sold, + it would be back to the way it was in terms of recruitment. This is the last window where a large outlay is needed imo.

Clyne (£25m), Otamendi (£30m), Gundogan/Schneiderlin (£20m), Schweinsteiger (£10m), Lacazette (£30m). Obviously just muppet guesses/lists, but that doesn't seem too unrealistic to me.

Forgot about the striker part. Yes we do need one, especially if van persie leaves and i don't think hernandez is goinf to stay either.

He writes for the sun, and revealed what he believes regarding Schneiderlin on talksport. Remember two or three weeks ago Canal plus was saying Schneiderlin was "close" to signing for you?

If arsenal get him that would be two of their biggest weaknesses filled already. Hopefully this isn't true, but it would be a case of them beginning to have a summer like Chelsea had last year which elevated them up a level. We really need to have that sort of summer as well if we are to challenge.

All speculation of course right now.

If he ends up at arsenal its because we've gone for schweinsteiger instead.

Would be poor decision in long term.

Knew it this deal made too much sense for us to actually go through with it and when Schweinsteiger inevitably does an Alves/Fabregas on us we will be left with a wad of cash, cock in hand scurrying around the continent looking for overpriced garbage, again. We need to dump whatever policy we are following now and get back to the pre 08 policy that brought us players like Carrick, Evra, Vidic, Rio and Rooney - we used to go after players like him, young, talented and hungry who are ready to make the step up.

I don't understand why we can't get both though. With Schweinsteiger's fitness record and Carrick's we are just setting up ourselves for another injury nightmare.

They're not even similar players though. Not sure why we'd be choosing between them.

Yeah signing Di Maria, Shaw, Herrera etc and now Depay shows we've really moved away from that policy of signing young talented players...

They are though. Unless we are going to play with two DMs (not unlikely) then they are going to be occupying the same spot with Carrick

Isn't Schneiderlin more of a physical tackling midfielder?

Schweinstiger is very complete and all-round but I'd imagine you play him next to a tackler.

Id expect Schneiderlin to be more of defensive distributor like carrick.

But you never know with lvg.

Get the feeling that its Schweinsteiger or Schneiderlin, not both. Think we're mKing the wrong choice if we go for the German.

I think we're going to have a disappointing time with our 'pursuit' of Schneiderlin.

We were never actually linked with him until some of us on here decided he'd be a good signing. This thread has grown in momentum to the point where we now 'have' to sign him or else LVG/Woody have fecked up, but there is nothing concrete to say we're even remotely interested in him.

Maybe I could have phrased that in a better way but my post was made in the context of us preferring Bastien over Schneiderlin, when we could have both. And the Di Maria/Mata signings are the ones that reinforce my argument, one could argue that we don't know how to use them, we signed them merely for their profile as world class players who were available but ultimately we haven't gotten the best out of them due to structural issues and in Di Maria's case a post Madrid hangover that has maybe affected his motivation - that is $100m down the drain.

Look at Juventus and Chelsea (to an extent), they are always making some smart moves in the market for a fraction of what we are spending and are way ahead of us. Maybe I'm mixing up issues but we haven't been using our money wisely for a very long time.

Let's not go nuts re Charlie Wyatt. He said "I think Scheiderlin will go to Arsenal". Hardly a lock.

Its done deal, there are already pictures with him holding your shirt etc. "Lets not go nuts"... you know this is a madhouse when it comes to transfers, dont ya ? :)
