A lot of people are getting confused about the best positions of the CM's we are linked with. Am I not right in saying Schneiderlinn would not be a Carrick replacement as he is a #8?

For me any player that is not playing at a top club represents a risk of some sort regardless of the club they're operating at.
Di Maria has failed not because he was in a La Liga side, but because tactically he doesn't quite fit here. On paper, he is a very premiership type of player.. not very big in terms of keeping the ball, very box to box in terms of style and super direct.
Berbatov was prem proven and a disaster. Torres, prem proven and a disaster at Chelsea.
Veron was simply slow as feck and would have struggled no matter what, if we had signed Nedved that same season he would have become one of the biggest legends this club has ever had because he was the type of player that would have fit this club like a glove and as for Falcao/shevchenko both were past their peak and shot, by the time they came to the Premiership.
Prem proven is a myth, if Schneiderlin is a success here it is because he is a damn good player not because he was proven in the premier league first.
He did a great job before they signed Wanyama
In the 2012/13 season ? He wasn't as good as he has been last 2 seasons.
Anyway, also they were using Cork for many games.
He can play that role but he is at best when his workrate and ability to be the box to box midfielder is utilized. Playing him as a 6 would constrain him and test his defensive discipline and passing ability.

Yeah he works hard defensively but, he is not really a holding midfielder. Southampton have always used him as a box to box guy.
His defensive discipline is great and his passing is more than good enough for a DM role. He's not Carrick but there are DMs out there with a lot more limited passing ability than him.In the 2012/13 season ? He wasn't as good as he has been last 2 seasons.

I don't see why he's being touted as a #6. He near enough always plays with someone behind him. He's a box to box midfielder.
He does both tbh, infact he more #6 than he is box to box. Southampton usually play with 2 holding players in the middle

No he hasn't, they moved him forward after he was their best player as a DM because he can play a bit further forward with his passing and get a few goals. This was to accomodate other players.
He's more solid than Carrick for sure

Even when in a midfield 3 this season, he's the one who has stood out doing his defensive job in the big matches against us, Chelsea and so on.
Its a bit crazy that people are questioning his defensive abilities if they have seen his performances against us this season. Yes he was on the left of a 3 man midfield, no we couldnt get past him
To put it this way, i see him similar to Fletcher at his best than Carrick. Can play #6 Sitting back and good passer but at his best box to box harrying, chasing players and contributing in attack in between a AM and DM.
Berbatov a disaster? Bye bye credibility. Premier league top scorer for us one season wasn't he?
Its just you can play him further forward
so why not? It's not easy to find a pure natural B2B today, so players who are versatile enough should definitely be utilized. I certainly find playing him as a defensive minded B2B plausible. Vidal underwent the same transformation

Why? Because the media isn't linking us with him?We dont seem interested in him at all, real shame.. Think he will end up at Arsen

Would Koeman actually sell to us? Schneiderlin is the only player he held out on keeping after the mass exodus of Liverhampton and Luke Shaw, would he really go through all that trouble to strengthen LVG?
I suppose it seems silly, but name a player other than Falcao, who clearly was not in our inital plans, that the media hadnt linked us in some respect? They do usually get it right, as they link everyone under the sun.
That, his age, nationality, i dont see how he wont end up at Arsenal.
What is the max amount you guys deem reasonable to pay for Schneiderlin?

Probably if we are talking about current abilitySchniederlin is every bit as good a passer as keane, if not better.
Was going to bring up this exact point. He scored 11 goals in 3 games (5 v Blackburn, 3 v Liverpool and 3 v Birmingham) which means he scored 10 goals in the rest of the season. 10 goals in 29 appearances (had to check Wiki for that one).Berbatov was a disaster.
For the price we paid he was completely underwhelming, even in the season where he was top scorer. The goals figure is bloated by scoring 5 against Blackburn for example, he didn't score in that many games overall (played 42 and scored in 12) and wasn't even trusted in the CL final at the end of the year.
His first two years he was about as average as you can get.
