Koeman already confirmed Clasie as a potential target and Feyenoord are willing to transfer him. It will most likely be him as replacement.
Can't deny that LVG would also help Clasie with that Schneiderlin deal and make him experience one of the best leagues in Europe while he's still relatively young.

When was the last time we passed on a transfer that makes so much sense as this one? Everyone on earth seems to be in agreement this is a signing we must make, and the club even put a bid in. This transfer is bound to happen. I have way more faith in Van Gaal and Woody to think this is off the table.

Schweinsteiger is not a box to box CM these days, so surely him and Carrick are wise enough to know that for career longevity it makes sense for them to share the #6 role, it will help them through the season. That would leave Schneiderlin to come in as a box to box and give Herrera a little more attacking freedom in the midfield 3.

I don't believe we would have bid if we didn't have interest. Schweinsteiger was all about convincing the player rather than bayern. I think schneiderlin is irrespective of schweini. As I said in some thread its carrick blind schweini schneiderlin fellaini and Herrera for the midfield three. 6 for 3 positions is not overkill at all and even more so if you consider injury records there.

Arsenal just signed arteta to a new deal and it's safe to say they won't have Morgan in their sights now

Thiago? You needed a Scholes replacement, and he would have been just that. Ferguson/Moyes transition probably muddied the water.

nothing more than the last bargain to be made unless strootman back to his full action by tomorrow

On paper yes, but we'll see how he adapts to the Premier League. Schneiderlin is tried, tested and proven in this league.
We are in the champions league too where Schniederlin has never played

I think we will get both though

Edit - Also some players struggle playing at a bigger stage so there are many factors to consider apart from being PL proven

Carrick would now be happy to share his game time with Schweinsteiger and Schneiderlin (two positions between the three of them.) Both he and Schweinsteiger are experienced enough to recognise that not having to play every single game will limit the chances of the sort of serious injuries that have started to affect them over the last few seasons, and will lengthen their effective careers.

Then, in an ideal situation, you have Mata and Herrera competing for the third, attacking midfield position, with Pereira picking up any remaining game time there.
This sounds perfect....

Has Mata played in a midfield 3 this season and how has he been there? With Carrick/Schwein/Schniederlin taking 2/3 midfield positions he will have plenty of defensive cover

There will never be another Paul Scholes, he's a once in a lifetime player.

Do you mean for United? Cos there've been two players very similar to Scholes this generation just gone (Pirlo and Xavi), and one (Xavi) was ostensibly better.

Xavi couldn't score like a young Scholes, neither could Pirlo.

Neither could send a ball 50 yards down the flank, 6 inches over the defenders onto his winger's foot, 49 out of 50 times like Scholes.

Neither won as many trophies either.

The first paragraph - true, but Scholes started to be recognised as a maestro around the same time he stopped scoring. It's not that aspect of his game that made him special.

Second paragraph - false. Just... false.

Third paragraph - well, you might want to look at Xavi's medal collection. 8 league titles, 4 CLs, 2 Euros and 1 WC. Pirlo has also won the WC which is the pinnacle of footballing achievement.

if van gaal wants an immediate and short term impact then obviously it is by signing Schweinsteiger. not a player he used to be due to all the injuries of late but a massive influence still when he is on the pitch.

schneiderlin should be an immediate and long term impact for us. i would like to likened signing morgan to carrick in 2006. not necessarily a pogba or a fabregas of today or a gattusso or a riquelme of 2006 but a type of a player we need in our midfield.

hope he get both of course.

 Gotta laugh at all the changing level of optimism/negativity regarding this transfer on a daily basis. Some of you just need to be patient and we'll know soon enough.
it's really fun:lol: but it's not

We'll sign him, i don't think it's a case of either or, I just think we want to do the more difficult deal first, he's going to be a United player in no distant future.

If we sign them both I'm gonna go through the whole thread and ban everyone who moaned about one meaning we don't want the other.
Yes please. The casualty list will be high, though.

£13 million For Bastian is going to send a clear message to southampton, stop trying to haggle us and sell the player for what they are worth.
This. Looks like Southampton wanted to fleece us (again), so it's good that we will have leverage once the German is signed. I don't think either of them will take time to settle into the squad either, so if this rumbles on for another couple of weeks, it won't hurt

Not optimistic that we'll sign him at all he's a number 6 and so is Schweinsteiger so it'll be one of them and by all accounts it seems like the latter.

I think it is biased that WC is considered as the pinnacle of a footballer's career. Just not fair for footballers from lesser countries.

I know they were only reports but didn't we agree personal terms with him? I'd still sign him as Carrick, seems to pick up those injuries which put him out of action for a long period. With the CL as well, there is room for Schneiderlin.

Can someone not tweet the journalist who has close ties with Southampton, to see if we're still interested?

Alex Goring Crook still belives Schneiderlin is going to join United. Simon Peach I think would say something similar.

There's absolutely nothing to suggest that we're no longer in for him. Don't let the negative caftards influence you ;)

We need to get this deal wrapped up....The longer we leave it then there is a chance he might stay at Southampton or join another club.

For me it wouldn't make sense to buy Scheinderlin as well. Between Carrick and Sweinsteiger we have the no 6 role sorted for the season and long term I think LVG would put Blind in there. Wouldn't we need someone like Herrera who would offer more going forward?

Carrick needs a long term replacement and Blind isn't good enough to be that.

Not signing Schneiderlin would make no sense.

I don't think Scheinderlin is Carrick's long term replacement either. I think Schweinsteiger for short term share and Blind as understudy for a few years. I'm not a fan of Blind but LVG is and he is an intelligent player who will grow over the next few years.

How biased lol. Pirlo was a great goal scorer especially when he first broke into the team. Doesn't he also have 2 ECL medals like Scholes.

Indeed he have. He has only 4 league titles though.

Xavi on the other side (together with Iniesta) is the most succesful footballer in the history of football IMO. World Cup, 2 EURO, 4 (!!) Uefa Champions League and 8 La Liga titles.

We could do without Schweinsteiger but I think we really need Schneiderlin. I hope this gets sorted rather soon

I like Schneiderlin but i do think some of the stuff on here is a bit over the top, almost disappointed we could get Schweinstegier because we may not get Schneiderlin as well.

Fact is Carrick and Schweinstegier will be fine for this coming season.

Delay (probable indefinite postponement) on this makes perfect sense in light of the news from Germany. Must have been either/or.

Unless he sees Schneiderlin also as a no.8 I don't think we will go back in for him once we get Bastian for the no.6 role.

Arsenal should go for him, he'd turn them into title contenders.
