Schweinsteiger does make me a little less optimistic about Schneiderlin, but we'll wait and see.

Carrick, Herrera, Schweinsteiger ,Schneiderlin isn't even overkill for 3 positions. Consideirng Carrick's 34 and Schweini soon to be 31 and both having recent injury issues I hope and logically believe we'll still be after Morgan.

Also I think people are forgetting we will have more games this season and hence a tighter schedule. We need more depth.

There's nothing to indicate we were after one or the other besides mass muppet suicide on here cause of people being impatient and bored

We wouldnt send a guy there if we werent serious about buying him. The Schweinsteiger thing didnt just pop up today. I am pretty sure we knew already if he would be open or not. So Schneiderlin should still be a target.

Was that story actually true though? Didn't they interview Les Reed at Southampton who said they hadn't heard from us since that rejected bid?

I'd be really disappointed if we signed Schweinsteiger and not Schneiderlin, but I'd be less disappointed if we signed Schneiderlin and not Schweinsteiger. I'd be ecstatic if we signed them both, though.

Well, I think the only source claiming we've sent someone is the Daily Mail, so that remains in doubt.

But we did bid for the player. And more than that, if the idea is that Schweinsteiger completes our cover for Carrick, than that is plainly wrong. I'm sure Van Gaal realises that.

Pretty sure a well connected Southampton journo also said we sent someone there.

Maybe thats how it should look, think Morgan does not want to stay another year,if Pigsteiger joins,we might not look so desperate,so maybe at the end they gonna accept 20+5mil.

Lot older and injury prone too, which is why we need both.

5 years older. It's something but there are midfielder who go well into their 30s (see Giggs, Pirlo) and there are those who struggle at 32.

On paper yes, but we'll see how he adapts to the Premier League. Schneiderlin is tried, tested and proven in this league.
Oh come on, people need to stop with this. It's hardly ever about the league if a player doesn't succeed, and it certainly wouldn't be with Schweinsteiger. It's always the player just not fitting in at the club or not being suited to the play style. Put any big name player who was world class then flopped in the premier league in a working system suited to them and they'd be fine.
"Premier league proven" is a load of shite basically.

The Schneiderlin fans are hilarious. Cant we just for a moment enjoy signing Schweini and Darmian, instead of moaning and wanting an imminent signing of Morgan.

Maybe but as a signing for this season and more than likely the season after Schweinsteiger is a much better option.

Schweinsteiger wont struggle in the PL.
Either way, i dont think schweinsteiger is going to stop us going aftsr a DM or schneiderlin in particular.

Btw, Lovren was premiere league proven, doesnt mean he turned out to be a fantastic player for liverpool. This is especially the case because we dont just stick 11 players out with a few instructions anymore; we play 11 players all playing under a particular style and identity. Whether someone plays in the PL matters the least it has ever done.

We do definitely need a DM, schweinsteiger or not.

I hope we get him, the only problem is that these four players are all good enough to be in the first team, while Blind, Fellaini and Perreira are there to add depth and that's without counting on Mata and Angel, who will fight for the RW position.

Carrick would now be happy to share his game time with Schweinsteiger and Schneiderlin (two positions between the three of them.) Both he and Schweinsteiger are experienced enough to recognise that not having to play every single game will limit the chances of the sort of serious injuries that have started to affect them over the last few seasons, and will lengthen their effective careers.

Then, in an ideal situation, you have Mata and Herrera competing for the third, attacking midfield position, with Pereira picking up any remaining game time there.

And with CL games and inevitable injuries all will start a good number of matches next season. I don't think we'll have trouble giving everyone enough game time next season that any one of them will be unhappy at the lack of opportunities.

Yes please.

:(

When you begin losing hope, it spells trouble for the rest of us.

I don't really see Schweinsteiger as our midfield solution on his own and we clearly have shown interest in Schneiderlin who would be. I doubt van Gaal wants to go in negotiations and walk out, but it's possible. I went from 100% certain to 85%.

This is a matter of time imo.

We are tired of overpaying for all our signings. This one we are in a strong position to hardball over a little. Sensible.

This whole wait must have something to do with Arsenal dropping out from the bidding war and renewing Arteta's contract. We're in comfortable position where player and his agent know it's a good time to leave and Koeman pretty much waiting on our closing offer to seal the whole thing.

"Everyone knows the situation of Morgan. If you can get a good move to a big one, I can understand it. I hope that if there is any business that it will be soon. That is best for the player and best for us. We need to sign a player if we sell the player."

Looks like also a case of finding proper player who could replace Schneiderlin which surely isn't that easy. I mean how many potential Carricks are out there ?

"Of course I was at a lot of meetings with Morgan and everybody knows his situation. It is important for the player to do a good preseason, then we will see."

Is it possible to sign a player while having his tour or after ? I think it is but just look how things accelerated during these two days. We could already have an answer soon. Shame none of these journos didn't asked a genuine question about this deal on LVG's presser. One look on his face could tell the whole story.

IMHO, it is just a matter of Southampton closing out their deals for proper Schneiderlin replacement (Clasie perhaps?) before selling Schneiderlin off to United.

This will happen.

We not putting in bids and then saying oh sorry, we going for Schweinsteiger. We aren't amateurs like that.

Maybe we should give them Carrick himself? :D
Seriously I would conform in making Fellaini available to them for 10m.

 Exactly, this is not a feckin super market. We're talking about people travelling distance with their families to play for big sport institutions. That opening bid from us already unsettled their player not to mention even Koeman expressed his desire for a big challenge.

Koeman already confirmed Clasie as a potential target and Feyenoord are willing to transfer him. It will most likely be him as replacement.
