Why? There's nothing to suggest we aren't in for both of them. It's exactly the opposite - this morning The Guardian reported that we want to sign Schneiderlin despite the Schweiny deal.

We just have to be patient.

LVG wanted a right footed #6. He has his man.

Fergie tried to buy both Carrick and Hargreaves in the same window. The latter didn't come for another year, but this window feels a lot like that one.

Maybe we got the bastian deal done first to put some pressure on Southampton? They now know that Morgan is no longer a necessity. It definitely gives us bargaining power.

Schneiderlinn is more of a #8 to me, a box to box midfielder as opposed to schweinsteigers deep lying midfielder.

We need both as the last thing we want is rooney back in midfield and Herrera as the most defensive player in midfield.

That's true, but there have been some reliable sources reporting that Van Gaal wants to sign AT LEAST one midfielder this summer (I remember reading it on The Times a while ago). Jamie Jackson's article from this morning is encouraging as well.

I want us to sign Schneiderlin as well and the Schweinsteiger signing is maybe making it a bit less likely than before, but I don't think we'd have made that bid for Schneiderlin if it were one or the other. We'd have waited for Schweinsteiger's decision first before making any move for another midfielder. At least that's what I think.

Fair to say this is the CAF's no 1 transfer target for this summer despite the galatico names we're being linked with/signing...who'd of thought that back in May

For the record he's the 1 player I'm most keen we buy as well

Look how quickly we've managed to escalate the Darmian and Bastian deals (Memphis too) to get them in time for the tour. Now look at whats happening with Morgan, hardly a sign that we're going all out guns blazing for him? Especially when you consider that this is a deal that should be quite comfortable to complete given all the circumstances.

The only other possible hold up I can think of is that Southampton are asking for a ridiculous fee. But that would go against everything thats been said up to now.

If it's one or the other I think we've got the wrong one. Really want this go through as well!

With Darmian and Basti out of the way, the muppeting will be full force on Schneiderlin now.

Settle in folks, it could be quite a ride :D

Did you not hear what Van Gaal said yesterday? It's a long process.

Schweinsteiger was hardly a quick deal.

I don't see why we wouldn't go for both. I see Schweinsteiger and Carrick rotating as a 6 given their age and fitness record, Schneiderlin starting mostly as an 8, and Herrera with more licence to roam and attack just ahead. Carrick and Schwein could be rested at the same time with Schneiderlin as a 6, Herrera as an 8 and Mata/Fellaini as a 10. Plus Mata can play wide right, Carrick can play occasionally at CB. Blind will probably deputise at LB/CB/CM. Lots of options across 4 competitions.

Apparently he's a liverpool fan, it doesn't give me much hope with this.

So was this guy.

who told you that?
Only thing I find on that is this article http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...ins-finally-faces-boyhood-team-Liverpool.html

"He is not the only one at Southampton to dream of going to Anfield. Midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin has been a Liverpool fan since his time as an academy player in France. He said when he was growing up in France people either chose the Merseyside club or Manchester United but his mind was made up watching them come back against AC Milan in the 2005 Champions League final."

Saw it on Rawk, yes i know, i know but apprently he said it in an interview.

He said: "I was in an academy in Strasbourg and we were watching the game in the same room, there were just an amazing atmosphere, 40 young players were watching that game. It was an amazing moment and I picked them."

He chose them in a game, there is nothing that says that he is a fan, he could be though.

So what ? Do you really think he'd choose Liverpool over us ? He's 25 now not a child, he wants to play in the CL.

In the same way most young English players probably have a natural liking for either Barca or Madrid, wouldn't stop one of them for signing for the other should the chance arise in their career I'm sure.

Surely next priority is and should be Striker and Goalkeeper. We have enough midfielders.

We're losing 2 strikers, possibly 3 and losing our goalkeeper.

I'd say centre back.
