I'm surprised Jamie Jackson can spell all those words.

Still, it's good news, so I'm gonna chose to believe him.

How long before we get some sort of update? Will I have to wait until Monday to hear anything new about this?

Their names are probably the hardest to spell. A faff to type out too. We'll need abbreviations if we sign them.

I've been calling him Bastian.

I die a little inside every time I do it but it's better than spelling.

Would be cooler if he had Bastian on the back of the shirt.

Bastian, Morgan and Carrick

Jamie Jackson has a bad reputation on here being a muppet slayer, but i quite like him in recent times. He is decent enough, and i saw a discussing round with him on Youtube where i liked what he said. It would also work well with what De Telegraaf said with the 3 signings, Schneiderlin being hopefully the 3rd one.

Jamie Jackson is on Mutv all the time, he doesn't seem any more clued up on our dealings than any of the other jurno's doing the show.
Edit, hope he's right here though obviously.

No just no. Names with y at the end just don't work!!!!
Morgan and Bastian should do. Or Tiger for Schweinsteiger.

The last Tiger we had didn't work out very well :nervous:

If we do sign both Schweinsteiger and Schneiderlin then I think Carrick will be playing a fair number of games at centre back.

I echo that sentiment. Sometimes out of necessity (our CB's are made of glass), but sometimes out of pure choice.

No way. LVG will want them both.
No he won't imo.

Louis has been saying from early that he's looking for a right footed no.6 in midfield. I agree that both schweniy and Morgan are different types of midfielders but both fit that profile.

Although some reports say otherwise it's over I think. Now that schweniy is looking very possible we won't bother with another bid for schneiderlin. We've made our choice.

I don't think we will sign him. Makes no sense, where would he play? I think most of the games it will be Bastian and Herrera and some attacking midfielder in the midfield 3. If we want 3 midfielders it will be Carrick, Bastian and Herrera, would Schneiderlin get ahead of any of these players? I'm not sure he would.

Also keep in mind that if we buy another striker, he will expect to play and that means Rooney must play in midfield.

For no. 6 we will have: Carrick, Schweinsteiger, Blind

For no. 8: Herrera, Schweinsteiger, Fellaini, Perreira, Rooney

For no. 10: Mata, Fellaini, Di Maria, Rooney, Perreira, Januzaj

That's a lot of depth, I don't see any big improvement in signing Schneiderlin, I think he was second choice after Schweinsteiger.

Think Schweinsteiger plugged in at no.6 would offer better forward drives, starting our moves, Schneiderlin at no.6 would offer a massive screen to our iffy defense,
Personally think LvG will be happy with Schweinsteiger and Carrick for the role now, unless he sees Schneiderlin able to operate as the box-to-box type he'd have wanted from say... Strootman.

Think, games like Everton away last year where Blind offered crap potection on the break made me want Schneiderlin but i'm not hopeful on this now, perhaps I'm wrong.

Considering we can't be sure Carrick can continue to perform at the same level, I still think we could use Schneiderlin, especially since Schweini doesn't seem suited for that deep role. We still don't have proper Carrick cover. A midfield three with Schneiderlin behind Herrera and Schweini is mouth-watering. Depay, Mata, ADM and Young competing for attacking positions behind Rooney/new striker.

Pretty sure he said he didn't want to play Rooney in midfield, thats the whole reason why midfield was his priority

I don't think Fellaini or Rooney are viable options for #8 plus Perreira has, what, 45 minutes of PL football? That leaves us with Herrera and Schweinsteiger really with many claiming Bastian's better off playing the deep lying role when Carrick's rested/injured/retired.

As for #10, seems reluctant to use Mata or Di Maria in his midfield 3 rightly or wrongly. Rooney will be our first choice #9 so don't see him occupying that role often at all. Regarding Perriera see above, Januzaj I would put in the same brakcet as Di Maria and Mata. In fact I can see Herrera playing quite often in the #10 role.

I feel we definitely need another midfield addition after Schweinsteiger to realistically challenge on all fronts.

pretty much agree, although there hopefully will be room for Perreira to make an impact

I hope so too and fully expect him to get games next season, just with all this talk of challenging on all fronts I don't think we can place too much expectation on him to be a stable midfield option given his inexperience.

We better sign him...or else.

My position has always been that we should buy both and look to rotate Schneiderlin,Schweinsteiger,Carrick and Herrera in the two deep midfield positions. Firstly Carrick and Bastien shouldn't start too many games together so that's those two for one position. Then Schneiderlin should (if we do get him) start his United career as the more defensive box to box CM with Herrera playing as the AM but also using him as the more offensive box to box CM against shit teams like Liverpool, Leicester etc. So that's Bastien and MC as the deepest, Herrera and Morgan box to box and Mata and Herrera as the AM.
The beauty of it all is that we will be playing at a high level whilst implementing the CM succession programme. Herrera and Schneiderlin will eventually take over the deeper positions in a couple of years but unlike the last transition we attempted these two are good enough for this level.

Surely him being left out the squad for their friendly can give us hope?

And the dream dies :(

I'm never getting emotionally involved in a transfer again. My short lived muppet days are over.

Why? There's nothing to suggest we aren't in for both of them. It's exactly the opposite - this morning The Guardian reported that we want to sign Schneiderlin despite the Schweiny deal.

We just have to be patient.
