Mo Salah

Hi all,

Newbie here but been following this forum for years. Based in Egypt (shout out to el3mel, 3amel eh ya m3alem* :P)

I knew Salah would make it and I was desperate for us to sign him when he went to Chelsea. I genuinely believe he would have been the missing piece in the puzzle during that incredible Suarez season, as he was scoring for fun in Europe with Basel (remember Chelsea & Spurs games). As some said here, Klopp's ultra attacking style helped him flourish and Rogers was also gung-ho style and he certainly would have made an impact in that style of attacking team Vs Mourinho's Chelsea which I thought was unsuitable for his style.

Glad he made it back, at least Liverpool matches take precedent at the Shisha cafe, no more hiding the remote from United, Real, Barca fans.

Appreciate the respect shown here to my countryman by our most bitter rivals, this is why I like to follow this forum, its relatively objective.

Attempting to be neutral, I hope he doesn't go to Madrid/Barca for the time being, as he is currently too good to be Ronaldo or Messi's understudy. Even Neymar left Barca to get out of Messi's shadow. I think he has found a good rapport with a manager, teammates and fans who have faith in him, and (again trying to be neutral) should stick around for at least one more season. If he performs at the same level, he will definitely be classed in the top 3 players, maybe even the best. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

We are not going to play like that. For one thing we are real madrid, for another we don't have a target man like lukaku or the sheer pace of rashford(unless we play Bale, and we won't), our midfielders aren't made to defend deep and our fullbacks are bad 1vs1 defenders

We will try to play our football. What you guys would call playing into liverpool's hands

You better not bottle this, cnuts.

Mourinho in 2015: I see his future elsewhere. Either on loan or sold with an offer we are happy to accept. We have five wingers and it is better not to have Mohamed Salah back.

Mourinho in 2018: people say that I was the one that sold Salah. And it is the opposite. I bought Salah.

This man is a walking contradiction I tell you

Welcome buddy, always great to see other Egyptians or people based in Egypt here even if they're supporting other clubs. :D Regarding the account name I just used to sign with it in all forums and media so that I'm easy to be found.

@redman5 I am me indeed, not sure who you think that is though. If you are an Egyptian Utd fan and the only person on the planet who thought at half time in 2005 that Liverpool could win the game, then yes it is me :D. Other than that, I don't think I'm who you have in mind.

@el3mel, based in Egypt and 100% Egyptian, and with a world cup coming up (I assume this our first time to see Egypt there) let's hope the boy makes it through the season in one piece if we are to have any chance of getting through the group.

Edit: @redman5 just noticed that video, thought it was an ad at first. No, thankfully I am not that character. Would never support another English team to win the CL. 2008 was a nightmare I'd rather forget.

Great to hear. :D

Yep, it's definitely our first to watch. Hope the team in general and Salah especially make it count for. Want to see some goal scored to forget this Magdi penalty :D

Bro if a ball is kicked off Cavani's backside and goes in and Cavani is considered Egypt's WC goalscorer, I will be a happy man just to shut up Magdi the legend

Not many Egyptians will disagree with this feeling.:lol:

I don't see how that's contradictory? He bought him for his potential ability however back then he has other wingers performing in that particular team. Same goes with KdB and Lukaku. If Chelsea kept them, I am not sure they would be given the game time with less pressure to develop into the players they are now.

However, we can say it's not his strong point to make bold decisions to give the youngster more chances over more established, older players like SAF did with the CO92. But even with SAF, it wasn't something he did regularly.

He's phenomenal, funny thing is I was slagging him off before we signed him too. Something alone the lines of 'the most underwhelming signing I've ever seen' and 'disheartened by this summer already'. Well and truly ate my words, fair play Mo! Now go and win us the Champions League! Nice to join the forum too been lurking for years but never really bothered to join, not sure why I did right now don't think it's anything to do with us being so close to Kyiv like, think I'm just bored of your everyday football banter group and felt like a change. Actually a fan who goes every game too:angel:

So can he be as good as Thierry Henry?

/watch?v=ltd5JqbVaVw

Pretty sure he had the vision to know where Firmino was @3:08 but just decided to finish himself. So can he be as good as Thierry Henry? I mean you knew he wasn't gunna mess up.

The worrying thing is that not only has he been improving over the season and but recently his progress is going parabolic.

Scored 4 + 1 assist against Watford
Now 2 goals +2 assists against Roma
He's moving on from a goal a game to looking for braces and hat-tricks.

Why is this?

I can only think that he is a confidence player and only now is beginning to express himself as he now truly sees his potential.
Saw him do a pirouette and dragback and step over the other night to go past 3 players.

This is a big worry if he decides to stay as a big fish in a small pond in Liverpool.

Real Madrid. Please do something.

I don't think it is confidence... I just think he has learned. 20+ goals will be routine. Firmino is good all-round aswell, but just not quite up there with the finishing, Salah... the EPL is just easy for him. Rerely do we see him breathing heavily.

The state of that guy at 5:20. Sure as hell ain't no United fan. I'm half Egyptian, but whenever Salah plays for Liverpool he can feck off and I'll root against him

Mourinho is spot on. I think if he does the same with Martial, i.e. loan him out to Roma or something, then you will see a world class player return to the PL (to Man City).

Hate to agree, but it would be true.

Will need to do it for more seasons.

But in terms of style of play, Henry is the top player I think Salah is most similar to so a decent point of comparison.

I really don’t get how it was ever an underwhelming signing. I was dead excited when we signed Salah, he’d scored 15 and assisted 11 in like 31 games last season and was one of the only players in Europe outside Messi and Neymar I think to hit double figures in both. He was known to be lightening quick and had been consistently improving each year in Italy. We needed a new winger and there weren’t many better in Europe last year so I was delighted. I of course wasn’t expecting him to hit the heights he has but I definitely expected him to do well.

Honestly it’s not that Salah is a better finisher than Firmino he just gets a lot more chances because Firmino tends to track back more so it allows Salah to stay higher. Like if you look at the stats Firmino’s put 64% of his chances on target and scored 28% of his chances, Salah’s put 62% on target and scored 30% of his chances. Difference in finishing is quite minimal, just quantity of chances is vastly different as Salah has had nearly double the amount Firmino has. The thing with Salah is, he probably has the best positional instincts I’ve ever seen on a forward and I even said that in pre season after only watching him a few times. He just always seems to be in the right place at the right time. It’s not luck that the ball magically ends up at his feet so often, he just reads the game that well. I had a feeling just from watching him pre season he’d get 20+ in the league this season and even made a bet with my brother about it. Certainly wasn’t expecting 30+ though but I definitely credit that to his finishing improving because no way right now would he miss some of the chances he missed earlier in the season. I definitely agree that 20+ should be the norm for him each season from now on.

Will need to do it for more seasons.

In tennis Roger Federer, out to be blue, suddenly became world class. Could be happening with Salah in football. I think he would make a good center forward.... esp think he would be good playing for Barcelona.

What a player he is currently. Will be interesting to see if he can keep it up next season.

This is what I'm thinking also. Amazing season, yes. Not debating that. But will (can?) he maintain this form?

Mo's conversion raio has improved. Now evertime he gets space to shoot you expect a bender into the corner. A well drilled shot bottom or top corner.

He plays under the right tactics system. He's so "clinical" because he is good at suppressing any feelings of pressure.

Edit:

All strikers miss sitters every now and again. Still one of the best clinical finishers in the world though. Burried Roma. And he'll probably go on a goal frenzy today.

Yeah 100%. As I said in that post, no way right now would he miss some of the chances he missed earlier in the season, he missed some right sitters. In fact pretty sure he's top of the list with Benteke on most "big chances" missed this season of 20. Imagine if he'd put half of those big chances away, he'd be on 41 goals right now.

So, what do we make of this? Fake news? Nothing in it? Or, enough for the FA to throw the book at him?

With only 2 games remaining, if he gets a ban for that, he won't break the goals scored record. Am assuming the only reason he played 97 minutes today was so he could get that record.

He was crap today and missed a big big chance early in the game.

The reflexes of the stoke player

Very weird situation. Doesn't look good for him though, but stoke player doesn't seem to react to it either...

Wtf?! That has to be a retrospective ban, surely?!

Looks like he’s been fully converted. Any chance this can get viral? I don’t trust that Liverpool team without him to finish the job.

If Salah ges a retrospective ban, Liverpool will shit themselves and will be seriously worried about making the top 4.

Hegazi got away without a ban for worse last week so it the FA were able to be at all consistent it shouldn't be anything here.
Not worse...He literally threw a punch with the sole intention to damage opponents’ head, much more serious matter.
