Miscellaneous Reserve/Youth News

The Under 18s came back from 2 down to win 3-2 today against Norwich, with goals from Tanner, Barlow and Gomes, probably the three standouts of th u16 group.

How many youngsters have Guardiola promoted at Bayern?

I'm not a Bundesliga expert but the only two I remember are Gaudinho and Scholl (son of Mehmet Scholl) who were both cm's. Don't think either of them featured much this season though, but both are highly rated. Kimmich as others have said, was already relatively established. Saying that, I don't know if Bayern have a good crop at the moment. There's no point promoting players if they're not ready.

To be fair to Guardiola, he promoted a few at Barca. Thiago, Bartra, Tello and Cuenca mainly - and Thiago is the only one ready for that level.

How do people rate the Irish cm at City, Jack Byrne? He's been on loan in Holland but we could do with a premiership level midfielder pretty soon.

Central defender, 16, currently playing for KV Mechelen (he's captain of their U17s). Born in SA and moved to Belgium when he was 5, yet to declare who he'll play for. Considered one of the best talents in Belgium football.

We shouldn't have an issue with Work permit then

I saw Keith on trial at us few seasons ago but heard nothing since so I assumed we didn't follow him anymore but seem we waited until he's 16.Another Belgian around that age who was on trial with us for a couple of times is Brandon Baiye who played ahead of his age group for Belgium.

What position does Baiye play?

That's not possible these days.

You say that but it's not inconceivable to picture a United XI this season with Varela, Borthwick-Jackson, Fosu-Mensah, Lingard and Rashford in it.

Just saw this on another site. Everyone is raving about the rainbow flick but I'm more impressed with the quality of the finish!

According to more knowledgeable people than you and me wrt to u18, they say that RoShaun Williams is the most likely to make it. You're right of course though.

Also interested to see how Barlow does, from all accounts been our best u16 player this season.

Well the composure, power and accuracy of that finish is very promising. I was massively impressed by the quality of Martial's finishing as a 19 year old so to see that from a kid of 16 is exciting.

Exactly. With our new signings(Chong, Burkart etc) and these U16 players, I think our youth team will look very good next season. Exciting times.

Just read that we're also interested Ajax' 15 year old Daishawn Redan who plays for Ajax u17's, he's a striker who's playing on the wing this season. Very highly rated, and a natural goalscorer with pace, strength, vision and skill, as an United fan it would be good if we could attract him when he turns 16, as I dont think we have a lot of good strikers in the academy (with Rashford promoted, Wilson, Keane already past 20 I believe). As an Ajax fan it is really bad to see our biggest talents leaving at this stage, with Familia Castillo probably leaving for Chelsea and United's interest in Hossein Zamani as well.

Yeah, the modern game is quite sad in many ways. It's sad how the current elite clubs can raid the old school European giants like Ajax.

The U18s have really turned it around. Unbeaten in something like 10 games.

Angel Gomes again getting praise on social media. How has he been,?

Yeah, he assisted Boonen's goal with a nice through ball and Buffonge came close to scoring from a similar through ball.

He's very good in and around the box. He can unlock defences. He will be very useful at breaking down stubborn defences if he makes it into the first team one day.

If we only count those who're likely to be offered scholarships we have only 1 striker in Redan's age group (U15s) and he actually only move over to us in the summer, though we have loads in the age group below.

Any info on other goalscorers?

Greenwoodx3,Levitt,Jayden Reid,Dolan.All are U14/15s.

Think it's good news that Gomes has begun to make consistent impact at U18 level. Struggled for a while.

Think that's unfair on Mcguinness. The U18s have benefited from a settled side over the past couple of months.
Stage two also started shortly after he left so now we are only playing against the weakest teams which skews the results. As you say too, the squad always had the talent but is quite young and just needed to put it all together, McGuinness' impact on that is a bit hard to measure as it could just be young kids finally gelling and putting in complete performances.

Cheers.

He's an attacking midfielder who has been playing a lot as a striker in the past year or so and is one of the biggest prospects in the academy. He's a brilliant dribbler and has a brilliant shot with both feet, I've seen a bit of him and am still not sure which is actually his stronger foot since he takes corners, penalties and free kicks with both feet and regularly scores free kicks with both feet. Seems to be a good athlete as well http://www.thepowerof10.info/athletes/profile.aspx?athleteid=388634
He's the number 10 scoring a most of the goals in this video

It's important that creative and instinctive players like him keep going. His calibre of players are the easiest to go off the boil due to either mental or physical exhaustion. I'm happy to hear he is still going. Excited times!

I might be wrong but is Gribbin's progression a concern to anyone else?

United set to complete Kacper Chorazka transfer
Manchester United are on the verge of signing 17-year-old goalkeeper Kacper Chorazka.

The Polish teenager had trials at Rangers earlier this season, while Tottenham and Liverpool were also interested, but Chorazka is set to head to Manchester instead.

His father, Artur, is quoted as saying : “Kacper went to Rangers on trial and I know their goalkeeping coach Jim Stewart liked him.

“Spurs, Liverpool and clubs in Italy and Germany were interested too.

“But when you get an offer from a club like Manchester United, you cannot say no.

“If the clubs reach an agreement then great, but the priority is to develop him as a keeper.”
