Miscellaneous Reserve/Youth News

We are restructuring our academy, lots of work has been promised. If we are indeed thinking of appointing Mourinho, I hope Ed has made it clear to him that his record in this department must improve.
I fear you can't teach an old dog new tricks though and even Abromovich could persuade him to change.

Mourinho promised a lot about promoting some of Chelsea's best youth players especially playing RLC this season but never delivered to the acceptable degree. His football doesn't accept much "risk" which is the nature of playing youth players regardless of how talented they are.

Very good first half.Buffonge returning has been vital.Nifty footworks from him.Whelan and Kehinde also did well.Gribbin and Rashford made a difference with their goals.

U16s also won 2-0 with both goals by Barlow who played number 10.Quite a young team with 6 U15s started.

Sucks but from the outside it looks like we sack Paul McGuiness and we're back to winning ways..

Stoke is one of the weakest teams on this league to be fair (this season anyway), probably up there with Wolves.Despite being bottom of the league before this match we're nowhere as bad. They can barely get the ball from us in the first half bare a couple of moments when our players gave the ball away recklessly.

I've heard were signing Ireland u15s attacking midfielder/striker Elvis Azah. He's still only 14 so we won't be seeing him for a while though. His parents are African for those wondering about the name.

Is Nicky Butt already playing a part in all these decisions?

14 year old American striker Scott Taylor is on trial with us. He's originally from the UK so we could sign him if we want him

U18s drew 3-3 with Swansea today in their second game of the play-off round.Kehinde,Dearnley and U16 Barlow with the goals.Swansea equalized in the 89 min.

Can't see Williams, BJ or Rashford actually going considering they are now first teamers and we have a load of matches coming up.

I hate seeing our young players called up by England they invariably come back injured

I know it maybe a little late, and I din't see a thread for this, but United lost 3-0 against Derby in the U18s PL.

I know I keep banging on about this but it really is quite incredible that the U21s fixture list stretches all the way from Liverpool on 11 Mar to Chelsea on 4th April without a game! We should start our own reserve league or something at this point, see who would join.

We were supposed to play Chelsea yesterday but they cancelled it because their u18s were playing in the youth cup on Friday and there are no games the next couple of weeks because there are u17, u18, u19,u20 and u21 International matches. The FA are finally trying to do something to improve reserve/u21s football

Sounds really promising actually jb! I mean the reserve league bit is pretty much just common sense prevailing (eventually!) but interesting about adding the teams to the Johnstone's Paint trophy - would be really good for them to have a crack at competitive, physical conference teams and the like. Probably generate more interest in the competition as a whole too.

That's my biggest problem with how the reserves/u21s has been handled by the FA in the past 10 years or so. Rather than making it more competitive which is what they needed to do they've made a load of sidewards and backwards steps so that now the u21 league is only really any use for the players stepping up from the u18s and players who are later developers than their peers. If they handled it properly and made it more competitive, used proper stadiums and created a bit of buzz around a reserve league they could have people who can't afford to go to senior games regularly going to games and get younger players used to playing in front of crowds and actually playing in games which have a bit more meaning. The only real way for them to get this at the moment if they're not in the first team is to go on loan but usually they go to teams which play a completely different style of football which doesn't help a huge amount when they return to their parent club

@khoazany @jb8521 Wide spread reports that Domingos Quina has walked out on Chelsea. Do you think we would risk upsetting Chelsea by taking him? I know we tried to bid for him in January. Any chance he comes here?

We should go all out for him, but we aren't usually good at these type of high profile youth transfers. Especially domestic.
