Mikel Arteta | Lego Pep watch

Everyone is saying that in hindsight now. At the beginning of 2019/20 season, they were a shoe-in for top 4 for almost all pundits, journos and people here. Even at the beginning of this season, many thought they would make top 4, and at least top 6.
Fair enough but I never personally subscribed to that view. The squad is poor but then perhaps he should be doing better than the current league standing

He's got to go, this is the worst I've seen a big English do since Leeds in the early 2000s.

He's out of his depth, David Moyes would be miles better. Emery was never this bad.

The squad is horrible but they don't have a squad that should be 15th in the table. If Brighton beat Sheffield United they will be 16th.

Burnley are also 4 points away from them with 2 games in hand.
That is fair. The squad is poor but at the same time I’ve seen nothing that makes me think he’s anything special as a coach either

I think he showed signs to be optimistic last season, but like you say, nothing special.

There is some strange protection of Arteta by the media. Carragher said he needs 3/4 transfer windows and changing manager won’t change Arsenal. Why? Football managers get time by winning games. Why does Ole get so much flack, no one says he deserves 2 years of transfer windows to fix our squad. All because he’s work with Guardiola!

Probably crunch time for Arteta now.. Chelsea in the Premier League after Man City in the League Cup. Can he fail to win both of those and not be sacked?

Brighton after those is actually a huge game for Arsenal too, which shows just how bad it really is.

Don't compare Moyes and Arteta. These two aren't even in the same dimension as managers.

I genuinely think when he came in, their form was merely what they call ‘new manager bounce’. That’s now over. Is Arteta really good enough for Arsenal? The guy laid out the cones for Pep. We all know Pep is heavily involved in coaching as well. Arteta is way out of his depth and 15th in the PL after 14 games for a club like Arsenal is unacceptable.

Even last season you could see this coming. Getting knocked out of Europa by Olympiakos and not qualifying for Europa League via the league, getting beat by relegation zone Villa at home.

Last year Carragher didn't say that to Ole and said the opposite and arguing with Keane. Unbelievable.

Without defending Arteta to much, but you can't expect results with poor squad and averages players. Arsenal have just brought this upon themself. Edu have done terrible job. We know Arteta want to play Guardiola style of football but with current players it is like asking Burnley play tiki-taka.

With that said, some of the results are not good enough and he is walking on a thin ice. Sacking is not far away, but that will not solve problems they have. So you either let him have time to build something over 2-3 years time where position is not important or you sack him this week and hope for some reaction.

Arteta has brought down the value of the position where you're looking at the like of Moyes as great candidates.
Arteta is more in the mould of Gary Neville and Phil Neville I'd say. Not cut out for managing a professional football club. Should stick to putting training cones on the pitch or managing under 15's.

It's fair to say I got it totally wrong with him.  No shame about admitting it.

They’ve now got 1 point from the last 5 games (4 losses, 1 draw). To put it in context, all the teams below them have at least 4 or more points from their last 5 fixtures bar Sheffield United at the foot of the table who have lost all 5.

I know we’re just over a third of the way into the season and there’s lots of time to rectify things, but continue with this form and they’ll be in the relegation spots by early January.

Wonder how much longer Arteta has before the board panics. Surely he just has until the end of the month to save his job.

Even if he gets fired. Who is available? Theres no manger will touch that team and the money in transfers wont help much.

All Pep's assistants so far have been terrible coaches (arteta, torrent etc). Shows you that his style is heavily based on having the most expensive players

Pretty much, their squad is not great, but should be around top half easily. And a lot of the mess is his own making, a player like Ozil would make a big difference, Saliba is a good talent but does not get a chance. Players that should have been sold were not only kept, but are his preferred choice.

Also, his tactics do not suit the players he has got.

I changed my opinion midway and thought he would be potentially very good manager and has done well with them up till our game with them. Didn't expect me to jinx them so hard after that.

Ha, you were right on the money first time.

Been saying this for ages.

The hypocrisy from a lot of the media and most pundits is mind boggling. Everything wrong about United is Oles fault... everything good is individual brilliance bailing him out.

It's not just the points/league position with Arteta, it's the style of football. They play like a bottom half team and deservedly there.

He should stay on as the real problem is at the top, changing the manager won't do much.

He wasn't backed in the summer transfer window and needs a couple more until he gets it right.

Yeah. The squad has some holes in it, but its not that bad. My guess is if they are still languishing in bottom half come 2021 he will be gone.

They should be grateful no fans are allowed though. Would be boos all around

I guess you can say so after all.
Fair to admit it though rather than making excuses

I actually thought arteta had an idea end of last season (albeit helped In the cup final with Pulisic injury - didn't watch their semi final so don't know how good they were)
I'm still shocked they got rid of the keeper who looked better IMO but maybe there is another reason?

I mean they've spent a bit so whilst it could be said they shouldnt be challenging they should at least be around top6.
