Mikel Arteta | Lego Pep watch

His contempt for these lesser cups is amusing seeing how it was winning one of those that probably gave him enough leverage to weather through the rough patches that arose along the way before he finally got it.

You can view the job that Arteta has done from a few different angles, and none of them are wrong.

You can think he's taken Arsenal from mid table to title challenging, so he's done a good job. You can also question if he has what it takes to get them over there line.

You can look at the forwards in Jesus, Havertz, Martinelli, Trossard, Saka and Sterling, and ask if that's really good enough to win prizes in comparison to his peers. Or you could be of the viewpoint that most of them were signed under Arteta signings so he has no excuse.

Or, a combination of them all, you could think he has done a good job, understand that it's not progressed this season, think the forwards were good enough to get him to this point, but understand that he'll need better to give him the best chance of getting over the line, but even then, ultimately he might not be able to do it might take someone else to.

he’s the spanish southgate. he was needed at the time. he’s not good enough to win things consistently. there’s not enough about him.

But surely if you was an Arsenal fan you’d want to be winning the odd FA cup? You can still do that whilst challenging for the league. City and Liverpool have challenged for the league and still won the odd cups inbetween. It shouldn’t be a case of one or the other. They’ll still be finishing top 3 even if they won a cup. But going season after season without winning trophies isn’t progress.
I'd prefer a trophy but Gunners fans wanted Wenger out after he won three in four years

Wouldn't be too harsh on their players. When the manager is long in the job, the team is just his reflection.

And so you get a bunch of cheating, whining cnuts.

What does this silly bollocks blame today? He had 12 players, every decision, and we played with the same ball as them.

The lightbulb wasn't connected by wires or whatever bullshit he was banging on about in that arsenal documentary. Glad the lightbulb is bust.

He’s too risk averse to make that final step to be a manager who has the ability to win the league or a European trophy. That has to change. His signings tell the story and I mentioned it in another thread… was it really necessary to spend £45m on Calafiori when your main problem last season was a lack of threat upfront? Instead they had to settle for Raheem Sterling who even Malacia handled well and he’s been out for over a year.

Out of curiosity how much has Arteta spent on defensive players vs attacking players since joining Arsenal ?

Bad result for them, but hopefully they can get back on track to pursue Liverpool.

He's such a little scrote. The way he purposely sets his team up to resort to cheating and time wasting is just pathetic

It’s a shame the FA Cup ball and the Carabao Cup ball were made in the same factory.

He's a blight on the game. Time-wasting from the first minute, relying on set-pieces, encouraging his team to throw themselves around and cheat at every opportunity.

Look how quickly he was off the bench screaming at the referee when Dalot went into that tackle. Look how the Arsenal player rolled around screaming despite not being touched. Disgraceful

Such an odd direction he has chosen to take Arsenal in after finishing 2nd in the previous 2 seasons.

Bizarre! I don't watch Arsenal enough to make any real judgement, but it's such a strange experience watching the players and stadium get excited for a corner!

Feels like he got brainwashed by the set piece coach like some guru shyster and he threw his entire attack out the window.

I wonder if Arsenal fans think they're starting from phase 1 again if they do get rid of Arteta. You know, since football is linear.

They are boring as feck. 5 plus years to play this football. Taking ages to take set piece.

Played his best team, couldn't break us down for a whole HOUR with 10men, and lost on pens.

Beautiful stuff.

Someone in the press conference just asked him about the United twitter account tweeting the word "Justice" after the game and he basically said no comment
