Mikel Arteta | Lego Pep watch

Played his best team, couldn't break us down for a whole HOUR with 10men, and lost on pens.

Beautiful stuff.
Tbf, they broke us down plenty of times.

We just happened to have Gandalf in goal in the second half along with his sidekicks Captain Maguire and Super De Ligt.

Talksport during extra time (had to nip out so stuck it on in the car) happened to mention what a good job he had done today with all his injuries, what a fecking absolute joke, the referee was worth about three extra players.

Out of curiosity how much has Arteta spent on defensive players vs attacking players since joining Arsenal ?

Depends if you count Havertz, he did claim he was a midfielder when he signed him. The other pure attackers are

Willian - Free
Trossard - £27M
Jesus - £45M
Marquinhos - £3M
Sterling - Loan

Guys like Odegaard and Vieira I'd class as attacking midfielders so you could include them, but the rest are definitely midfielders, defenders and goalkeepers.

He can be annoying and will be even more when he fails to stop Liverpool from winning the title. Because even though Liverpool will drop points here and there, can't see Arsenal without Saka stopping them.

They have their own rules on set plays, they get way longer than the standard time to set up almost like an NFL play it’s a joke and needs to be sorted

According to talksport Areta has spent a total of 577 M.

That means he's spent 75 of 577 on attackers.

Any manager that gets a team playing the way Arsenal have been playing (last season and the season before) can coach but his choices on transfers have been baffling. Seems like every transfer window since he's been there Arsenal fans are begging for attackers.

From January until the end of last season, Arsenal played some amazing attacking football and were thumping teams left, right and centre. We're they top scorers for the PL campaign?

A CF would make a world of difference, but I always felt it was more in the big games where you want a Haaland or an Isak to take that one chance, but generally you would have said Arsenal have much of a problem going forward.

Now I know today Saka was missing and Odegaard has been injured for parts, but it feels like Arsenal have been thr architects of their own shortcomings this season with their set piece obsession, time wasting and all that. A lot of it has been unnecessary when the game is still there for the taking too, and it's like disrupting your own rhythm. It's strange.

This is where I don't know who is to blame. Because I know we have actually tried for and failed to get guys like Vlahovic, Raphinha, Mudryk, Sesko, Nico Williams. That's the names we know we have actively pursued, never mind the ones we don't know about.

So, is Edu to blame for not getting them over the line, should between him and Arteta they have pivoted quicker once they are snubbed (this summer especially)? Are the owners scared to gamble on attacking talent after the seeing Pepe, Auba and Lacazette leave for nothing? Is the club prioritising defensive players because the quality you can get for £30M - £40M is more sure than the attacking talent you get for the same price?

Would love to know the answers. The last couple of years has seen our rivals sign the likes of Solanke, Richarlison, Werner, Nunez, Gakpo, Chiesa, Diaz, Zirzkee, Hojlund, Antony, Sancho, Nkunku, Jackson, Neto, Mudryk, Felix, Madueke, Savinho, Doku, Haaland, Grealish of the top of my head. How many of them would you say have been successes, is this playing on the clubs mind as well?

What was his excuses after this defeat? Blamed the ball for losing to Newcastle, the 8,000 United away support too loud tonight??

said something like if they played the game 1000 times United would only win once

he's full of shit and i don't think Arsenal fans will fall for it

That could be the reason. But then again If you did sign a sesko or Williams there's no guarantee that they'd be successes either. Just as Merino doesn't look a succesfull signing in midfield. I doubt any professional club doesn't sign attackers based solely on the fact that there have been a certain amount of attacking flops recently.

I think it's solely on Arteta tbh, don't sign Merino and Caliafiori and sign a Toney instead I think you win todays game for example and you'd be in a much better position overall.

Arteta comes across as such an unlikeable cnut, his team plays disgusting football, constantly pulling and dragging at players (and getting away with it) falling all over the place, baiting free kicks and setpieces and if that doesn't work give to Odegaard so he can try and float and cross to the back post.

Honestly don't know how Arsenal fans can put up with watching that shite every week. Won't be long now until they are fed up of him and the players start to down tools as well..

Why did they turn into Stoke City? His team two years ago was playing fast, free-flowing football.

His philosophy has completely changed for the worse of himself and the club

They got traumatized after the bottling of the 2022/2023 season, though I feel that Arteta will always turn into Moyes when pressured.

I think it’s the dearth of quality goalscorers at the moment.

A lot of those players you listed aren’t actually all that for the money they’ve gone for.

Havertz is a problem when Saka isn’t playing for you lot.

Now Klopp has gone, he has to be the most hated manager in the league. I mean Pep is at least funny. Lego Pep is just a bitter man.

I don't know why Arteta is getting so much stick today. He showed a great sense of fair play by evening up the numbers when he brought agent Sterling on after we'd gone down to 10.

Raheem did really well to get himself out of dangerous positions a few times today.

We'll win the title again before Arsenal do.
And I'm convinced we'll never win one again because the league will change to a european job first

Been there for 6 seasons and the only trophy he won was 5 years ago when it wasn't really his side. And the player who scored the goals in the semi and the final to win the cup he bombed out ASAP.

They play fecking horrible ugly football and win nothing. It's not a good mix.

Another trophyless season for him? The shine is slowly fading; how long before Arsenal fans turn on him? For all that he has improved them from where he took them, they still haven't won anything, and their playing style isn't particularly great. Great defending, but nothing special in attack, and overrely on set pieces to score. Have turned them in to a bunch of scumbags as well; they all dive and creep on the referee at every opportunity, Can't help but think that's designed by Arteta.

They've gone from a poundland Man City under him to a glorified Stoke City to be fair. Constant crosses and set pieces.
