Michael Oliver

Inconsistemt refereeing, he pretty much didnt give a single play on after a City dive but pulled united back for everything.

Hes not quite at Clattenberg levels of... “theatre management”, but hes not far off.

Depends if there was enough for the usual three. Only one goal and a few subs in the second half so perhaps not.

Man. City played out the four and a half minutes of injury time pretty comfortably. They had three corners in that time.

And Jesus can kick a players legs out and not get booked, it’s a complete joke

There was 6 subs and one goal in the second half so thats 3 and a half minutes to start with. Then Ederson went down so thats at least another 30 seconds to 1 minute. So basically he added nothing on for Citys time wasting.

What I find funny is the commentators are in on it too, they are stating that he’s done well just playing on when Silva stomps a guy and then don’t have any comments when we get booked.

Or they show the replay of Herrera multiple times but none of Jesus, it’s terrible

One goal which is usually half a minute to a minute, Zlatan sub, Silva sub, Mata sub, Mangala sub. That's two and a half minutes. So say that you notice one team wasting time from minute 73, a minute and a half shouldn't really be enough? Add Ederson's head injury on top of that, de Bruyne going down after Matic's elbow and four minutes come out as very little.

They did indeed, credit to them, but the added time is just indicative of the anti-United bias that many here perceive. He's been applying rules differently all game long.

Rashford being angry and throwing the ball = yellow. One would assume that it's for the anger shown, because he didn't book multiple City players for kicking the ball away and preventing United from taking quick free kicks. But then he allows Silva to run up to him and shout feck off, angrily, in his face, without booking him, so you have to wonder.
Then we have the most obvious one, where Jesus blatantly dives without any contact. Oliver waves play on without booking him. Herrera seeks up Otamendi's leg and throws himself to the ground, and gets a booking despite diving with contact involved.
 
Thought City could easily have had enough yellow cards from diving and tactical fouls to have had at least 2 sent off. Silva must've been very close to a red too. But, unsurprisingly, Oliver barely went to his pocket for City. All too happy to dish them out for Utd though
 
He's the most blatantly anti-United ref I've seen in a long time.

Every important 50:50 decision he gave City's way, and was happy to give United the harmless decisions in and around the halfway line.
 
He wasnt at fault for us losing.

But the guy is just not a good referee and makes it up along the way. So inconsistent and furious. Most of the time the decisions go against us. Prime example Herrera dive vs Jesus dive
 
It's becoming a bit like Atkinson - you just have to hope to get something from matches they referee.

Smart of the FA to give himthis one - pushes up social media and anger with his inept performances, means more eyeballs and more ad dollars.

Two of those subs came on at half time when play was dead.
 
I would say Atkinson like the poster above is more of a jink to Man. United. You always seem to get him for Chelsea away. :lol:

Still it works both ways. Mike Riley years ago always seemed to give you a penalty a game.

Silva gets one yellow card for 2 yellow card offences in the space of 5 seconds, obvious dives by Jesus and Sterling not carded, tactical fouls all not carded several times. Then has the audacity to give a yellow for a 'dive' where Herrera's foot got blocked. Rashford given a yellow for bouncing the ball that didnt even move from the spot where it bounced.

He didn't really do anything bad today. Even if we had 10 more mins. i doubt we'd win or draw the game. Jesus should have had a yellow, but besides that had a decent game.
 
Trouble with Mourinho blaming the ref for the Herrera incident....just balances out the Coutinho one not given at Anfield. So Man. United possibly get a point today and possibly lose a point earlier on in the season.
 
Beginning to look a bit silly and RAWK-ish this thread now, Oliver did OK. Not giving an early yellow vs. a blatant and worse dive is not a big deal, it does not change the game. And only adding 4 minutes to the second half was also in order, not that many stops in the game, one goal and 2-3 subs. In Spain I see 3 minutes all the time for Real - Barca, you don’t get extra minutes since it’s a big game. More importantly, if five minutes were added, did it change the game? We didn’t have the ball at all during the added time and City had 2-3 breakaways which should have ended it.

If we are only talking about a possible yellow card and one more minute added, I think it’s safe to say Oliver did alright. Please blame the ref for incorrect calls, missing penalties and red cards, but not lack of added time (which I think is out of his control anyway).

Walker too. Would have been a second yellow. Practically identical to Herrera's as well, where he left his trailing foot in so there was contact. Completely engineered. Yellow for us, nothing for them.

Really? He clearly let City keeps on fouling without real punishment. Break our flow, while clearly give City every possible advantage.

For example, there was a play in second half down City left wing where 2 of our players pressed City defender in their box. City player went down being pressed by our first player (not sure whether it's a dive or foul here). He didn't blow the whistle until our second players pressed in and in control of the situation. Then City had quick break due to this second player committed up the pitch!!! Technically he is influencing the game (flow and team shape). It's not one incident there are plenty of similar situation both way, but when it comes to us, he was happy to delay us.

Refereeing is not just decide foul or not (which he is already bad at it), it's also about control of the game and not steering the game flow to one team's favor.

Jesus christ. First of all, Silva cannot get two yellow cards during the same stretch. You get one since the play went on, so the second was a freebie so to speak. All football players know this, so don’t try and create new rules. Herrera was booked for a classic case of trailing leg and trying to create something out of nothing. 100% dive and a fair yellow card. Imagine Gerrard doing that against United two years ago, would you stick to your story? Grow up, these incidents were not controversial at all.
 
I swear Sterling committed at least 3 fouls today and surely a sequence of fouls gets you a yellow at some point...?

Sending off a Man. United player at OT for diving (Di Maria) a couple of years ago was one of the bravest (and correct) pieces of reffing I'd seen from someone in the English leagues for a long time. Maybe would've just given the penalty.

He might not always get things right (who does) but he dosen't shirk the big decisions.

So every footballer that gets a yellow can yell all kinds of abuse at the ref? Silva told Oliver to feck off. That's a justifiable booking regardless of the circumstances.

I don't think he's anti-United. I just think he's incompetent.

Whenever you watch the game he always, always succeeds in riling up the crowd by being inconsistent no matter who is playing.

This is the big problem, City overstretch themselves when attacking and when we were about to break away they would commit a cynical foul and break up the game and allow themselves to get back. Clear yellow card offences and yet no further punishment was given.

How Sterling and Jesus both got away with clipping Martial from behind is ridiculous.
 
I just want them to have to display their decisions, not a full press confernce but the bigger decisions in a match. give an explanation of the incident and how you saw it. Would be very interesting to see wha they can come up with.

Mr Oliver you booked Herrera for diving but saw Jesus go down in the box in a similar fashion, why did you not give him a yellow?

Mr Oliver if you kick a players back leg without even an attempt at the ball, is that a yellow? Then why was one not produced?

Mourinho called it before the match, I’m sure he was studying tape and noticed this quite often and pointed it out, but officials don’t care.
