Michael Oliver

The Football Association have released the following statement:

An independent Regulatory Commission has upheld a claim of wrongful dismissal in relation to Myles Lewis-Skelly and removed his three-match suspension.

The Arsenal player was sent off for serious foul play during their Premier League fixture against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday, January 25, 2025.

No action against Oliver obviously. He can continue making shit decisions week in week out.

How many critical mistakes has golden boy made this season now?

One of the best referees in the league. I'd lend him my phone charger.

Arsenal have bathed in referee bias for decades. The one time they get a referee who's 50/50, they scream injustice and send out the death threats.

That's poor from them.

I dread having him on var even more than reffing the game on the pitch, because at least on the pitch there's nowhere to hide for him, and players & fans can make their feelings known.

When he's up in Stockley Park, away from the limelight he so obviously craves, he's incapable of letting the on field ref get on with his job without sticking his nose in with a stupid and unnecessary, and usually incorrect, VAR intervention.

And all this is before we get into his financial remuneration from Man City's owners from his little refereeing nixers in the UAE, which should at the very least automatically disqualify him from officiating in England (and probably Europe too), and would probably warrant a more serious investigation by a body more competent than the Premier League.

He's a dreadful ref, but they all are. The Premier League needs to seriously consider importing referees.

You need to put more effort into wumming.

An apology and rescinding the ban is great and all but it doesn't give you 11 men for 90 minutes.

The twat should appreciate United more. Does shite decisions like that against us every single match and never gets a fleck of abuse

worst referee in england. he seems to have mentally lost the ability to ref matches without some reactionary hysteria or ego performance. Defintely the forced elevation of him by PGMOL/FA and media is to blame. without it, he might just be a crap inconsistent ref like the rest, but he is like Mike Dean on steroids. Absolutely abysmal every game he has.

Now. Oliver is a twat and always deserves to get slagged off, but surely the real culprit here is whatever idiot was on VAR? Whoever that was is getting off very lightly in comparison for the worse mistake.

No it was a shit call from Oliver to begin with, he is the big dog in this puddle of shit that are English referees. The VAR ref didn't have the balls to tell him his call was shit.

When FA and PGMOL project Oliver as the best of the best and senior ref, why will any VAR dare to go against Oliver. PGMOL is a clusterfeck of egos and power trips.
Oliver and Taylor quite openly display that on field. Just the other day, Taylor dismissed VAR because he was in mood to give a red. He gave the flimsiest "I saw something" excuse to give red.

Makes a shocking decision... Gets backed by VAR... Then gets backed by PGMOL.

The fact that it takes an independent comission to rectify one of the most obviously bad decisions you'll see, sums up the biggest issue with refereeing in the premier league.

He has an agenda and its more than just incompetence. Needs to be investigated as Im sure his texts to his friends would reveal plenty.

The man’s a Newcastle fan. He was a child when Keegan had the meltdown and Man United overturned the points deficit and embarrassed Newcastle to win the league.

I am in no doubt this man was traumatised by Man United as a child and made it his life objective to become a referee just to screw us over.

Watch him closely in our games, 50/50’s are more like 60/40’s in favour of the opposition with a couple of ridiculous major decisions sprinkled in.

Plus why is he allowed to ref our games when we’re in direct competition with Newcastle for league position as was the case a few seasons ago.

Man has a supervillain backstory, and his modus operandi is to get revenge for the childhood trauma Sir Alex inflicted on him.

From Guardian comments section

Last night I watched world class referee Clement Turpin magnificently run the Man City v Real Madrid Game.

Tonight, I watched Michael Oliver destroy yet another game of football with inexplicably bad, inconsistent decisions.

Is this the best officiating the UK can offer?
He was consistently inconsistent..
Both sets of fans were raging at him throughout.

I've said this before.

There's absolutely no way it doesn't at least subconsciously affect his decision making.

Why he didn't just claim that he supports Gateshead or something, I don't know. You can't have a man refereeing Premier League games when he openly supports a Premier League team.

Newcastle fans by the way properly properly hate Utd.

I know to us they're nothing really but to them we are the big enemy, on a par with Sunderland. There was a fascinating article in the Athletic last year about a journalist watching the FA Cup final in a Newcastle pub, they needed City to win to qualify for Europe, and there were loads of quotes in there from various Newcastle fans about how much they loathe Man Utd.

Oliver will have been about 11 or 12 when he saw his beloved Newcastle blow a 12 point lead and we snatched the title away from them. He'll hate us and you can tell from how he officiates our matches.
Exactly this. A point I’ve tried making a few times.

Surely the simple and only solution is to have foreign referees. Why not let the best Refs operate in the best leagues. Reward those refs with the prestige and financial rewards they deserve, Oliver can go Ref the Faroe League Premier League.

That’s harsh on the Faroese, what have they done to offend you?

And yet when the Welsh do it we don’t bat an eyelid.
It's possible that the Faroes are named after sheep

The name's ultimate etymological origin has been subject to dispute. The most widely-held theory, first attested in Færeyinga Saga, interprets it as a straightforward compound of fær ('sheep') and eyjar ('islands'), meaning "sheep islands", about their abundance on the archipelago.

If so, that's a step further than the Welsh
