This is partly why I oppose the transfer. If Tuanzebe had regular football he would make similar, if not better, progress as Keane. Why buy Keane then?

I hope Keane proves me wrong if we sign him. I am not convinced though. If I had to put money on it I'd wager Tuanzebe has greater potential.
Tuanzebe needs a loan. Mourinho will never start him in his best position if older players are available. It would be better for him to go out and get a years worth of experience at a smaller club than to stick around here and play 4 games at right-back next season like TFM.

Which of the top managers has given game time to kids in the premier league, last season? Also, is Rashford not a kid?

His decision with KDB was also vindicated, considering he won the league with his replacement.
A case could be made that he was right to sell Lukaku and KDB without giving them chances, you could make that case. I'm just comparing it to Tuanzebe and pointing out to poster that Mourinho as serially ignored the potential of a player and bought more experienced replacements. You could argue that every manager does that if you like, doesn't make it less true of Mourinho.

Yes Mourinho did play Rashford last season quite a bit. I don't think discussing transfers and other young players should be outlawed because he likes rashford

Mignolet actually looked pretty good unlike Pickford who's already made plenty of errors. No idea why he's rated so highly.

As for Keane, I see him as a solid if unspectacular choice. Smalling, Jones and Rojo are probably all as good and likely better but struggle for fitness so aren't of much use.

Probably will be our Cahill which I'd take.

Aye, don't see how Pickford is so highly rated (linked yesterday with a big money move to City / Chelsea).

I would certainly have Keane down as a Cahill-esque signing alright which would be fine; a dependable squad option that'll be there for the long term. I don't see anything exceptional about him though and he is likely to just be a replacement for the inevitable departure of Smalling or Jones, which would be ok.

Which was the point I made in my very next sentence.

That's all there really is to it, though. Keane is a good defender, will never be world class. Smalling and Jones are good defenders too, in fact I'd argue Jones is our most talented defender, he can't tie his own shoes without pulling a muscle though. Due to this, Keane would be a good option for a reasonable price.

We've had so many defenders out this season, having a few that are actually reliable to fill the squad is a good piece of business imo.

I agree, it is a good piece of business for a solid defender.

Let's hope Axel goes on loan in the other direction, he'd be a beast if he got a season at Burnley under his belt.

Another in a long line of medicore English CB's in the wake of the decline of Terry and retirement of Rio, in truth bar Dele and Kane I'd avoid English players in general, but as long as he's not being brought in to be a starter then ok I guess.

I'd be happy to see him back, all we need now is someone who can deliver at corners because he scored a fair few this season from set pieces.

The one area i trust Mourinho with is defence- look at Bailly and the improvement in Rojo- if we can pick him up for 25 million rather than spunk 40 million or more on Van Dijk or Lindelof plus it helps with English player quota i am more than happy. It frees up a few million quid to concentrate on other areas and his wages won't be massive.

If we got a Dier or Fabinho to sit in front of the defence we are laughing defensively other than at LB.

Would be a decent squad player fairplay. If it means the end of Jones I'm all for it.

From the few games ive seen he's been decent, id like to know how consistent and mistake prone he is but dont think anyone here really knows.

For the price think he'd be an okay signing. Very hard to judge young defenders

feck it. Let's put a £50 million bid each in for Welbeck and Paddy McNair

Or even Cleverley??! Crap how could I forget the English Pirlo

He's certainly not my first choice but I think he'd be a great addition to the squad. I doubt he'll start over Rojo or Bailly but he'd be a much better backup than Jones and Smalling.

I am happy with our first choice defenders in Rojo and Bailly. It think they are fantastic. Keane is a United lad that wants to come back and would be a solid squad player in place of one of Jones or Smalling. He's home grown and an academy player. I am all for it. He's also relatively inexpensive. It's win win win.

With that attitude how will the standard of English talent ever get better?

I'am not, there is much room for improvement there

You compare it to Jones and Smalling and Bailly and Rojo are very good

You compare it to some really good centrebacks and Bailly and Rojo are average

We sign Keane we basically don't improve ourselves, we just add another name to a long list of players we have who can play centreback but just not very good.

£25m is also not inexpensive, in fact it is very expensive, especially for a back-up player, especially if you consider we sold him for £2m 2 seasons ago.

May not be a FM star or have a fancy foreign surname, but I think this will be a very solid signing

Mcnair!!! We should play him upfront and ask him to defend against us.

Rumour has it United can buy him for 18m because we have a sell-on clause. Makes slightly more sense when you look at from that angle. Even quality Championship players are going for 10m these days.

Great rotation, and can grow into a mainstay. We still have King Bailly, and we don't know how Rojo is going to bounce back. Given his record with bouncing back from injuries, we should be fine. Hopefully this means Jones and Smalling is gone.

A defender backed by Klopp pretty much nullifies the virtue of being backed by Jose.

It's not Klopp has worked with duds. He signed Hummels, Subotic, Sokratis for Dortmund and Matip for Liverpool.

We need players like him, I don't like the price but we're going to see a few English players leaving soon so we need to stock up.

I never rated Hummels that highly. He also signed Klaven. Don't have enough insight to comment on the other two, though.

Football world rate Hummels though, same with German manager and Bayern munich to sign him back for big money. Klavan was just a cheap punt as a back up. Liverpool fans might add to that but I barely watched him.

Is being rated by Klopp meant to be a positive thing?

Yes?

£18m is still too much for him, simply don't need him, we have backup players for those cb positions: Blind, Tuanzebe are excellent back-up options and Jones and Smalling are still here aswell.

If anything we should be looking at bringing a CB who would improve our starting XI.

Someone like Varane, Manolas, Marquinhos, Gimenez or Van Dijk next to Bailly, Rojo, Blind and Tuanzebe would be a very good defence to have. But we can sign Keane for 18m and he will not improve us one fecking bit.

Another much better player is Davinson Sanchez

Well Considering in Europe and PL our defending with Rojo and Bailly was top notch i would say they were more than average. In this day and age 25 mill for a squad player is basically the going rate for a club like ours. young talent is going for 40, established players that arent on the last year of the contract are going for 60 + . Everyone with a half decent CB wants 50 million. Yes there is room for improvement, even Juventus has room for improvement, but in my opinion i think Rojo and Bailly are a great partnership that is capable of winning the league (lets not forget Huth + Morgan won the league ) ( also David Luiz and Cahil) Our defence isnt an issue its the reliability of Jones and Smalling to keep fit. I would keep smalling personally and move on Jones for Keane. But thats just my honest opinion.

Are we buying Keane because of his size or his speed?

Really? He's 6'3 and not very quick or agile (Yes I know he chased Martial successfully) so I'd say the size wouldn't you? All of the players we are linked to bar Griezmann are big units.
