I'm all for this. Young, PL proven, academy player who loves United.

Shame we can't have his brother up front :(

Would be an upgrade over Smallings and Jones.

Good defender, has pace, threat from set pieces, and can play out from the back. He can get caught upfield and needs to improve on his awareness (both coachable)

 He isn't an upgrade on either. If anything, he's on a similar level of ability but has nowhere near the experience nor the difficulty of playing at the highest level with burdened expectations.

Pace - as mentioned before you - is actually his weakest asset. He isn't that much of a threat from set pieces either, far less so than somebody like Smalling.

No one would have even suggested signing Keane if he wasn't our youth product. If we are planning to sign a CB, it should be someone better than Bailly and Rojo or atleast as good as them. What is the point in signing someone for 30m if he is not going to be a starter.

I cant get excited about this, signing Keane to replace Jones or Smalling would be a sideways move.
What happened to the rumors about Gimenez? Thats the level of young CB we should be aiming for.

All that being said though, I trust Mourinho when it comes to CB's

Would obviously be nice to have another academy product in the team/squad, but he isn´t better than any of our centre-backs. The only part of his game that is better compared to Smalling and Jones is his passing from the back and his threat from set-pieces (but our set-pieces are horrible, so it makes no difference). The only other upside would be that he isn´t as injury prone as our two english guys.

I wouldn't necessarily take him over Smalling but I think we'd do well to bring him in and ship out Jones. People can say whatever they want about Jones' supposed talent but none of that matters when he constantly misses 75% of the season through injuries.

With Rojo and Bailly I think our starters are good enough, we'd do well to bring in a reliable backup for them.

We have several average centre backs, we need to be aiming higher.

Yes.

Pogba posing in an academy pic and isnt even the most talented player in that picture :(

Replacing the homegrown Jones with the club grown Keane seems a bit of a no brainer at the right price.

At 24 years of age he miles better than Smalling was at that age. Keane has that fearless streak in him that all the best defenders in the PL have. Unafraid to get his body in the way. Same can't be said for Smalling who never fully convinces despite having some decent attributes. Keane looks like a warrior defender which is something Smalling will never be. Jones has that quality but his injuries mean he can't be relied on. Keane is taller and physically more imposing than Jones too. I think he'd be a great signing. He'd be very handy if Jose wants to play 3 at the back too with Bailly and Rojo

 Oh dear.

Enlighten us with what is so outrageously hilarious Footballing Einstein? Try not to choke on your ribena and animal biscuits while in fits. Jose doesn't rate Smalling. When he plays for England or Man utd then goals will be leaked left right and center at the back and that's a fact. He's never played a key role in any defense that has looked rock solid over a season. He looked good under Van Gaal as Carrick and Rooney passed the ball sideways to each other for 90% of most games meaning we didn't concede but never scored either. He's a decent squad player and that's about it. Jones can't be relied on. Keane will only get better and looks like a top player in the making. We'll probably regret it if he ends up at Spurs or Everton who are both crazy to buy him.

I still rue the day his brother got injured, it stopped his development as he was in prime form. He was one player who could have thrived under LVG.

Jose doesn't rate Smalling, even though he played Smalling over every other available CB when he returned from injury.

Good chance Rashford would still be playing for the reserves if that hadn't of happened though, it was an blessing in unfortunate circumstances.

I'm mixed on this signing.

As a John O Shea type squad player, I think he would be useful. And if it means Jones and Smalling will go, even better.

On the other side, I dont think his potential is very high. I can't see him becoming one of the best CBs in the world. Like I said, if he's signed as a squad option. It would be decent. He's homegrown and has the United DNA so even better. But I don't think he's the missing link in our defence. We need experience in there. And I'm not sure if he would be much of an improvement on Jones and Smalling.

Alderweireld or Van Dijk would be a much better option in the Prem. And elsewhere, you'd have to be looking at the likes of Pique, Manolas, Glik, Varane, etc. Also Pepe is available on a free so I think we would be mad to not consider it.

He has really good distribution to be fair, it's either buy him or watch him become a top player at a rival club, not a fan of the latter!

Do you even watch him play he has lost physical battles with Rondon and Lukaku got turned easily by both then got beat for pace something Smalling and Jones would get crucified for and you making sound like he is any better than them when they bullied Rondon and lukaku instead of the other way round. That's what I have seen when he faced those two and my guess is he probably struggles against Carroll, benteke and Costa too

Peole wanting of smalling to go are really under rating him. He is strong in the air and jose will never let him go. Keane needs to play more at agood club to be england regular and a squad player role wont help him much. We need a top cb pairing with bailly, while smalling and rojo are good back up options and jones too is there for a 3 man defense if required.

Meanwhile its not time to look back and instead develop our new prodigy axel tuanzebe. We let keane go peanuts is our mistake as we must have put clauses in where we recive some money for him if sold by the other club.

That's why either Jones and Rojo have been the first choice pairing for most of the season even when Smalling was fit. Check your facts

True. I doubt we'll sign him as Jose will want a defender who is the whole package and not some kid who need need developing for another year or two. He's in no way the best young defender in the game but he looks a proper warrior PL defender in the making and to me he looks like a player who will do a Van Dijk where no one was talking about Van Dijk a year ago and then suddenly he's the best defender in the league.

Listening to talk sports the other day and someone from the Burnley side of things indicated when we let him go we inserted a few clauses into his contract, God only knows if it's true but considering he's our youngster, 1 year left on his deal and Jones is made out of glass... then why not?

After Rojo getting injured tonight we are left with Bailly and Blind as our senior options at CB.

We clearly need a new CB. Anyone who thinks we can rely on Smalling and Jones are kidding themselves

The Keane bros went to the same primary school as me and I've played against them a few times. Will was always the more talented of the two but Mike had more grit about him and could play anywhere. I'd say we should sign him because he is young and is showing that he is capable of defending well against top PL players.

We'd have no problem signing him if we are interested.

We sold him for a million or something like a year ago and now we would buy him back for 30 times that value. Insane, United are just waisting money at this rate. Might aswell just hand out baskets of money outside OT, would be cheaper than having a player policy like this.

Please go for someone like Alderweireld or Gimenez or Manolas and not this kid for 30m

We need home grown players and so he could be a decent choice if we get him cheap. Carrick, Rooney, Shaw, Young, Jones and Smalling all could be on the chopping block soon.

Rojo and Jones were first choice while Smalling was injured. When he came back, and Bailly came back after ACON Smalling was the most used.

I think you're wasting your time with that debate. Some people just have an agenda and bang on with their opinion regardless of stats or facts.

Not sure theres any truth to this but if United do buy Keane this summer no doubt for £15-20m. Then the club should start putting buy back clauses in contracts when selling these young players.
