I have learned in this thread that Ronaldo carries Portugal all by himself  .
Apparently that become clear in last qualifiers even though he was so shit in last qualifiers for them(in crap group) that they needed to play extra game against Sweden to qualify. Gotta love Ronaldo fans.

Lol Messi more reliant....

Ronaldo relies in a system made to give him tap ins.

Messi is the Barcelona system. Even more, during the Guardiola times you could just mention that but now is just a ridiculous thing to say. Messi crates, dictates and finishes in this team. And I think it's normal when you have two players like Cristiano and Messi to accommodate their characteristics to the system. But Messi is way more complete and able to win matches on his own. I mean, in a low quality team he would still make the difference. But Ronaldo needs his teammates to be good because he needs perfect crosses, great passes and plays made for his tap ins.

Messi playing in two different systems has won the treble two times, being the key man in both. And has reached a wc final and a copa America final. By the way, no one mention the fact that Argentina had the likes of maradona and Batista as managers.

You can say what you like about Lionel Messi, at the end of it all he's still a just dirty little tax dodging scumbag who belongs in jail.

Also, it's great to see Ronaldo still at the top of his game at the age of 30 when all his doubters predicted he would be in decline at this stage of his career. Not a bit of it. I see Messi starting to drop off from his best before Ronaldo does.

Because he was a different player in the PL, a skillful dribbler. Now he doesn't do all that stuff anymore.

Yeah he doesn't have to. He can just score instead. Boring for some people, but there's always Messi. And freestyling. And Arsenal (when they're not scoring).

Ronaldo's development over the years has been very interesting. From chalk on boot winger to wide forward to roaming striker.

He is still the best player of all times.

And when the age comes, Messi will play just walking and dictating as Xavi does. He doesn't need to run. He reads the game much better than anyone and has the passing quality to do it.

I know everyone says when he is old he will just drop back and dictate like Xavi, but what Xavi did wasn't routine, it was extraordinary. It's something Iniesta (for all his talents) was unable to do after Xavi became mortal again.

Messi will age well, but I don't see him dropping deep into midfield. I see him playing behind a conventional striker, pulling strings in the final third.

It would be an interesting debate had Ronaldo never played in England and especially at United. I think he gets a lot of support from our fans, and a lot of negativity from our opposing fans as a result.

Even without that dynamic, Ronaldo is just a more polarizing figure. Those who like him really like him, and those who don't, find him irritating at the very least.

He scores the same amount as Messi.

But messi contributes more than Ronaldo does elsewhere on top of their goal scoring tallies.

He hasn't been convicted of anything yet.

I'd wait to see how he fares in big matches this season before saying. 4 near unmissable chances and a penalty against an Espanyol side that capitulated doesn't prove much. It'll be the really tough games where he's not allowed free runs on goal every 5 minutes where'll he'll need to show he's still at the top of his game.

You're the worst of the lot here. Everyone else here, even those that are emotionally invested as fans, discuss the most reasonably and rationally as they can. Your posts are just nonsensical and bring the level of discourse down 10 notches. And for a thread of this standard that is a might achievement.

No chance. Cristiano won't be better than Messi at any point in their career from now onwards.

Weren't around 80% of Ronaldo's La Liga goals last season one-touch goals?
I'd be interested to see Messi's. Surely nowhere near that.

Now, one could argue Ronaldo's movement is miles better - but that's very unlikely to be the case.
So it does suggest that Messi is less reliant on service.

Ronaldo's predatory instincts are excellent. However, from my experiences watching Madrid over the years he's allowed to run in behind defences and in at the back post too often and too easily. Watch when Madrid attack, too many defenders start to drift towards the ball and inevitably you'll see Cristiano in the corner of your screen waving his hand unmarked.

Of course in his first couple of seasons there he could still dribble a bit and was much more involved in the overall play so he was capable of unlocking tight defences with excellent skill and control.

He's been trolling on this for a while. It's best just to ignore him.

That is clearly the case here, Messi is excellent at many things, but he's nowhere near as good as Ronaldo in timing his runs to get onto the end of passes & crosses.

Ronaldo getting votes from ex team mates and Michael Owen
Whilst Messi gets votes from mostly those who hate United, a City keeper and a Liverpool legends amongst them.

Oh, how does "I prefer Messi's style" equate to him saying "Messi is the better player"?

Wouldn't say nowhere near. Messi's movement is excellent. He's always in great positions.

Although Ronaldo's runs towards the box are probably more devastating.

Messi's movement with the ball is excellent, his movement off the ball is non-existent.

Messi's movement with the ball is excellent, his movement off the ball is non-existent.

I'd say that's very harsh. Messi's movement off the ball is more subtle than Ronaldo, but it's just as effective for himself and the team.

To say it's non-existent is exaggerating it imo.

Lol there's no need to say anything.

So according to Owen you can just put Ronaldo in a team and he will perform even though he is only good as a left inside forward.
But Messi relies on a team to perform, even though he can play 10, striker or winger.

Which shows how superior he is, the man is so good that he doesn't need to be in great positions to score as much as Ronaldo.

This is a good point. I think he will too.

For me, Messi is the more gifted of the two but I can't help to appreciate and respect the drive and workrate Ronaldo has a bit more.

He's also not a delusional snidey little rat who squares off to players who would put him on the ground with just half a fart.

It'll be interesting to see who starts to 'decline' 1st. I thought Ronaldo would decline this season and not score 50 goals for the first time since 2009-2010, but after that 5 goal haul, it looks like I was way off haha.

Classic Owen.

He gets the nod from nearly everyone cal, even the many who have no connection to any club either play for.

He is effective in other ways, ghosting into position to convert chances is not his biggest strength.

Who are these nearly everyone who has no connection to any club either have played for or a grudge against clubs either have played for?

Geez. Seems he winds you up more than he does to Ronaldo.
