Compare the best dribblers in history and see how they compare to the best headers of the ball in history. Or simply look at the best players in history and look how much their dribbling skills defined them compared to how their heading skills defined them.

It's a non argument.
Returning to the thread topic, does Messi score more from dribbling than Ronaldo score headers?

Dribbling is just about the best attribute a player can have. It's what allows players to open up tight games and stubborn defences, to take opposition defenders out of the game and increase your attacking advantage.

It's just being downplayed by some people because Ronaldo isn't very good at it.

Which is crazy in itself. Imagine being on here 10 years ago and claiming that Ronaldo would go on to be a shit dribbler. You'd be laughed off the message board. He's changed a staggering amount as a player.

Anyway, amongst the many laughable lapses in logic from @Cal? in this thread his latest is ignoring the fact that being good at heading in crosses can only have one benefit. Scoring goals. Seeing as Messi and Ronaldo have comparable goal tallies we have definitive proof that being able to score headed goals that Messie cannot has not made Ronaldo a better player.

Dribbling, on the other hand, has all sorts of benefits to the team that won't affect the individual haul of goals. Statistical evidence of this would include assists but there's a whole load of other, less tangible benefits.

Wasn't a poor player in his prime to be fair.

Aye, I liked him.

More crazy is the amount of people insisting he was a better player in 06/07.

It has to be 07/08 for me where he got the 42 goals and led us to the double. Even though he's gone on to regularly beat those goalscoring numbers at Real I feel like that season he achieved the perfect balance in his transition as a player between early, flashy Ronaldo and the current machine-like clinical Ronaldo. Plus a vast many of his goals in that season were game winners as we were a fairly solid, defensive team in some ways and ground out many 1-0, 2-0 type wins. There could well be a huge amount of bias in having that view due to being a United fan though.

P.S I strongly disagree with your view on Iniesta. He's definitely been substandard in recent seasons but he was bloody marvellous during the Pep years at Barca. Just watch back the 09 final again to see how he ripped us to shreds. Turned up massively for Spain too in the world cup and Euro 2012.

This wankery on dribbling is the reason Iniesta has got a pass all these years despite his substandard level of play.

Can't say I disagree with the specefic example but I think we can all admit that there's no debate to be had on Messi's efectiveness.

Almost certainly. All the evidence points towards him continuing to improve every aspect of his game after leaving United. Which makes sense. Would be weird if such a dedicated athlete peaked at such a young age.

On Iniesta, I mean in recent years. No doubt he was great up to and including Euro 2012.

Agreed.

Yep no doubt you are right. But we're all allowed to have a little bias every now and again! His dribbling has definitely deteriorated though so at least in that aspect he lost something to his game. I think dribbling is largely influential to how 'exciting' a player is to watch, at least for me, so that plays a part in my view as well. There's certainly no case to be made for 06/07 Ronaldo being the best however.

Another hattrick for Ronaldo tonight - it looks like he's getting the Golden Boot...again. That 58 goals in 53 matches in all competitions to Messi's 55 goals in 54 matches. Definitely an edge above Messi.

Stats don't paint the full picture here, clearly.

Hahahahahaha

There was an article on Eurosport few days ago on them, saying Ronaldo is a sculptor whereas Messi a painter. Apt comparison and some nice explanation in the article on why it is so and hence why it is futile to waste time comparing them instead of enjoying different forms of skills.

They'll still be compared.

Messi's wiped the floor with everyone this season.

Change the thread title to "maradona on roids vs pippo Inzaghi on roids"

Meanwhile, Messi scores the title-winning goal (a world class one at that) at the home of the champions. Definitely an edge above Cristiano. ;)

 I love how this has absolutely nothing to do with the post quoted.

Im actually gonna leave it like it is

He tends to get worked up when people start to break down Ronaldo's goals and take them for what they are. Clearly he's went a bit mental

I missed several penalties and tap in goals playing football myself. I'm bemused at how easy they're made out to be... Or how shit I was

What's going on with Messi's sleeve tattoo it looks awful.

He'll need as many tats as he can get in order to fit in when he gets sent to prison for tax evasion.
