You can't pick and choose, you can't say he's a 9 dribbling because he's taller, in that case Messi is a 15 for heading because he's 5'7 (although he's a very good header of the ball and its a complete myth people bring into the argument).
Agreed, just pointing out how wrong koruoux is with his Messi is a 9 for heading given his height

Being tall has never a pb for dribbling but being short is sort of a handicap for winning headers.
Being shorter = lower center of gravity = better dribbler

Anyway, no need to argue about it, Ronaldo is by far the best header of the ball in the world, Messi is at best average, given his height.

And in most aspects that aren't determined by their physical makeup (awareness, creativity, influence, technique) Messi is superior.

How can you take a debate serious which is about dribbling vs passing, it's like saying Evra rates a 10 in throw ins, and Xavi a 10 in passing. So what? One is definitely far more valuable as you use that far more in a match and especially in the positions they play.

Dribbling is not more valuable than heading.

Of course it is. It's not even debatable.

Dribbling can create a goal from nothing. Heading relies on a good cross for starters.
Diving can also create a goal out of nothing, let's claim Busquets is the bestest.

Dribbling is not more valuable than heading.
Please dont be deluded, you dribble far more than you head, and especially as a 'winger', you do it do drive up the pitch, to beat defenders to create space, create a chance for an other, create a chance for yourself. Headers depend on the cross, and Ronaldo only really uses it when he's in the box and the ball is at someone on the flank with the ball. That happens much less than dribbling, whicj happens literally everywhere on the pitch. How many of Messi's dribble have initiated a goal for him? Far more than the amount of headers Ronaldo will ever score or assisted (?)/ created or what ever. Because of Messi's dribbling, he can put defenders/keepers on the wrong foot and score so often, rewatch the match vs Bayern at Camp Nou for examples.

Heading also helps the team defend, or are we completely ignoring that side of the game?

Messi has done more defensively this season than Ronaldo has, I'll be glad to link you to stats if you want.

Ballon dOrs haven't been won because Ronaldo can defend with his head. I can understand backing Ronaldo up but surely more common sense wouldn't hurt.

No we arent, and it's true. Bit how frequently does this happen? Dribbling also helps to defend, the amount Messi has dribbled himself out of positions where all the other players lose the ball and initiate a counter is also incredible. I hope you dont really think heading is at least as /more valuable than dribbling.

Heading more important than dribbling?

feck me. If Messi was banned from using his head on a football field he'd still walk into any side in the world.

It is an interesting point, cal pointed out messi is weak in the air, but that has not stopped messi scoring just has much and in some seasons, more than Ronaldo. So what we have learnt? if your an attacking player like messi, if he is inferior to Ronaldo in the air, but is more complete in other area's, like the insane ability to beat players like create and score, it shows dribbling ability is a huge weapon for messi's ability to score allot of goals. So no, heading ability is not has important, or guys like messi and Ronaldo at his best would not be be seen has the players they are.

Ronaldo doesn't need to dribble and would still walk into any side in the world, your point is?

I think tonight as any night, dribbling is more important, heading didn't get RM into the final.

Most likely. :(

Bale's failure to head cost Madrid their place in the final....

You can't blame it on Bale alone, Ronaldo should be inspiring his team there for the player he is, you want your big players in big games.

He started bright but went missing in the second half.

Some of you claim he never dribbles nowadays anyway, and which team would he not get into?

I don't know what you class as dribbling, but I basically consider it whenever a player travels with the ball at his feet. Thus, if a player can't dribble, he's not much use on the field.

Ronaldo put the cross at exactly the right place for him to inexplicably head it over...
Probably, Barcelona.
Considering Messi manages that side, that's probably true, but do you honestly think Suarez or Neymar are better?

If that were true, those OPTA dribbling stats wouldn't be so low for most players.
