You sell a top 10 player of all time, and you replace him with some random 18 y/o brazilian kid with absolutely no end product, then you expect a player that has played as a support striker for CR7 his entire career at Madrid to suddenly become a 50+ goals/season world class striker. Of course you are going to struggle.

Indeed. It's easy for the Ronaldo fans to simply point at Real Madrid and say "look what happens without Ronaldo!" There are far more factors at play, like for instance the change of manager, team getting worn out, lack of hunger, star players getting older etc etc. I mean, Marcelo was benched for poor performance, how is this due to Ronaldo's departure?

On the one hand I can understand what the others are saying, Ronaldo going for 100M at 33 is great, but this is not GOAT level. In my opinion, you don't sell the GOAT. Whatever the reason may be, status, image, gratitude, whatever. Ronaldo fans spin it like this: "Ronaldo fell out with Florentino, he got a record transfer fee for a 33-y-old, which is phenomenal."
How about spinning it like this: "Ronaldo fell out with Florentino because Madrid wouldn't give him the salary and contract duration he wanted, as they didn't think he was worth it. Juventus bought him as part of a larger marketing scheme (see the logo change) in an effort to boost their image and make as much money as possible. CR is a PR move rather than a football transfer."

Madrid selling CR7 for 100M is by no means something to criticize CR7 for. In fact its impressive given his age. Im just saying that no team would sell a greatest of all time caliber of a player while he is still playing at top level, to a direct competitor, unless the offer was absolutely ridiculous.
You give a team like Juventus who is already a favorite to win the CL the greatest of all time player and you are basically shooting yourself in the foot, makes absolutely no sense unless there is absolutely you cant do in your power to prevent it, or if the offer is ridiculous enough. However selling CR7, well yeah that makes more sense.
Again, how big would the offer have to be for Barca to even sit down and discuss selling Messi? Even at 31, i seriously dont think 500M would cut it.
I believe Barça bending over backwards is right. You take into account the quality of the player and take it from there. For instance, we should have bent over backwards for Ronaldo Fenomeno, but we didn't.
This season has indeed proven that Florentino was wrong (obviously). You just equate that with Ronaldo's departure, which isn't the full story. Other things should have been done. It would have been interesting to see Madrid with a proper Ronaldo replacement.

What I can say is that I don't remember Messi playing a match of football one time in his whole career in the circumstances Ronaldo had to play tonight. Stuck in his own half for 80% of the match, midfield completely dominated... a lot harder to make something happen that way.
