I agree. If he plys badly and they still win, I guess it should go to Messi considering that he has been significantly better in the tournament. However, even a tap in which result in giving his side victory, IMO should give him the Ballon D'Or. Regardless of that, I think that Messi is the better, but I always thought that Ballon D'Or should be depended a lot in the trophies (thought that Sneijder deserved it on 2010 and Ribery in 2013).
The very same Messi fans in this thread continually claim Ronaldo did nothing despite his 20+ assists this season...

Meh. He ws great but nowhere near C.Ronaldo/Messi to it. For all time hard to know, but I doubt that there has been a better goalscorer than Ronaldo/Messi at-least since Pele.
Are you 8 years old? Because they're talking trash, doesnt mean you have to do the same. Ofcourse Ronaldo doesnt do shit, but in terms of play making and his overall contribution during the match, Messi is far greater. While Ronaldo is still good in that aspect, he's incredible in the final third, with goals and assists.
After the season Messi is having? a tap in is definitely not giving Ronaldo the Ballon D'Or, Pichichi perhaps....Messi still has the Copa America to play, he could potentially win 3 trophies this year, one hand on 2 already.

You're incorrigible, Cal. And a complete joke.Did nothing for 77 minutes? Did you see him dicking Bernat and Alonso numerous times in the first half with feints and unreal dribbling? He did more in a scoreless first half than Ronaldo did in 90 minutes in which he scored a goal.

Ronaldo has been impressive this season. Not as good as Messi - especially after this night when Messi made one of the best appearances in the history of UCL - but still he has had a great season. Without him Madrid wouldn't be in contention for the league and UCL. If they manage to win UCL (or do the double) then I guess it should count for something and it would be just IMO if the Ballon D'Or goes to by far the best player in the best team in Europe. Doesn't mean that he has been better than Messi, but as I said, I always think that trophies should count for Ballon D'Or.

Whoever did whatever is irrelevant now. Messi is the greatest. He will win the CL and another Baloon D-or and go down as Goat, and no one without an agenda will disagree.
Yet did those faints and whatever get him anywhere? Doing more in footballing terms means contributing to a goal or preventing one, not some tricks that leads nowhere.

The debate is for the goalscorer. However you count, absolute number of goals, number of goals compared with other players on that era, number of times he finished as the top/second goalscorer in Europe, it isn't close.

People are still on about a goal Ronaldo scored 6 years ago, while Messi scores brilliant and worldy goals every few matches.
Ronaldo had a better year than messi form wise, but we're talking about the better player overall, messi is comfortably the better player and possibly the greatest of all time.
We'll see who wins what, Barca are certainly favourites for both but it's not like Real have no chance.
