Memphis Depay | Lyon player

Apparently AC keen on him. Think that would be a good move for him - I think he needs a league where he can start afresh and, arguably, play at a slightly lower level.

Good coach as well who gets the most out of young talent.

Could be possible to squeeze a bit of money out of this one as well.
Lyon over the years have squeezed money from clubs all over the world, hopefully we can get some back.I do suspect however it will be loan to buy deal.

Schneiderlin gone, now get rid of Depay please. Don't think we'll be getting our money back for him though, not unless a few premier league clubs want him. Those tight-fisted foreigners will probably try to loan him with an option to buy for a fiver in the summer.

We dont want to loan him. Were in the driving seat. We should be able to get £20 million back at least for a player we paid £29 million for. Hes 22-23 years old? Got plenty of time to improve, but sadly wasnt to be here.

Don't think we paid £29M....
Reckon whatever we agreed also included add ons.. so hopefully we can get most of our money back. Such a shame really

According to D Mirror £26 million and we have to pay £3.9 million or 10% whichevers greater to PSV. So if we got the same as Schneiderlin £22 million gross, we would only get £18.1 million net. The £29 million would of happened if we reached certain goals with him, Champions League place etc.

Would be a shame to see him go to Lyon. Would prefer him staying in the PL, and showing his worth. I don't know a lot of player that tried the PL, failed, went to Ligue 1, succeeded, and then returned to the PL

I'll be standing on the dock, waving my white hankerchief (just to make sure he actually goes and the other club involved aren't just pulling our plonkers)

You're assuming he cares if he plays in the EPL again. Could be just fine playing in any number of leagues for the rest of his career and be better off for it.

Probably some silly bid. When you see Ibe go from the scouse for £15m you really want to hold out until a PL club comes along.

Reckon a desperate WH would pay us £15-20m.

Yannick Bolasie cost £30 million for feck sake. As suggested above, I'd sooner we held out and received an offer from another Premier League side. Memphis does have talent and can definitely score a lot of goals at the right club. Of course, he may want to leave England altogether.

Maybe we just don't wanna sell him to a premier league club.

And no club is going to pay £30m for him. It's pointless comparing him to Bolasie. Bolasie was coming off his best season and Depay has barely done anything in the league for the last 18 months.

I haven't compared him to Bolasie.

My point is though that Jordan Ibe, a player that has done sweet feck all in the PL goes for £15m, so surely we can get the same or a bit more for Memphis.

Well if you see how ambitious he is, then you wouldn't be happy with Lyon in the French league.

And the asking price is most likely for foreign clubs only. As I'm sure the club would rather he fecks off abroad than to another premier league club.

Yeah, because Lyon is a shite club in a shite league that never allow players to join the likes of Barcelona or Real Madrid.

Do Lyon have any quality youngsters we could nab in exchange?

Lyon have plenty of youngsters but they are all more valuable than Memphis who isn't even guaranteed to start for them.

One of the biggest knocks against him is his perceived lack of ambition at United, thinking he's already made it and not applying himself. He could be very happy playing in France for the next 10 years, I don't know. I do know that he currently doesn't have a whole lot options at any top clubs in a top league, but certainly could prove himself in France and get another shot at a bigger club in a couple years or even take a larger money to some place like Monaco or PSG if France ends up being his level. Depends on him.

That's the complete opposite of what he, and Mourinho are saying in the media. I do believe that if he succeeds at Lyon he could get a second chance at a bigger club, but I would just prefer if he stayed in the PL. It's the best competition, and if he plays on a weekly basis I can see him succeed here (the PL). Still hope it's going to be Everton.

£15m for him is good business.

How?

We paid close to double that a year ago, he's still regarded as one of the hottest talents in Europe (somehow) and he's still young. In this market he should be going for £20m+.

No way he is ever with more than £20mil at this point.

He hasn't done anything for 18 months and at the moment he would be a punt for anyone.

Sure, but the exchange rate was favourable to us buying then, and is favourable to us selling now. If he's going to Europe I don't see why we shouldn't be looking for less than a sum that would convert into pounds at about £20m.

I have an inkling that we're probably smart enough not to instantly convert everything into pounds though and leave ourselves open to the fluctuations of the currency market which, in this instance, would mean the euro price would be more relevant.

Think he would do well in that league. Just not happened for him here. Hope Lyon coughs up a respectable fee.

That is where we disagree. If we send him on loan and he flops, we would be wishing we took the £15m. I can't see any club from the continent doing much better than £15.

£15m + buy back option would be good deal for us. He had like 1 good game for us in 2 years (against Danish team...) so we can't expect to get a lot of money.
