We've got Martinez-Maguire-de Ligt that started today + Yoro, Mazraoui who both fit RCB I think. Shaw would've been solid option for LCB if injuries ever ended for him. But they probably won't so while it's not top priority like wingback or striker positions, we need another LCB? Evans obviously retiring either this or next summer.

Fabulous goal saving clearance.

Been a lot of shit thrown at him this season. Clear agendas. Some harsh refereeing calls, some mistakes but generally been fine and occasionally very good. He’s still settling in. I’m so glad we have him.

One of the things that surprised me was how sharp he was right up to the end of extra time. Considering both ten Hag and Amorim have been rotating him out of almost every match he starts at around the 70-80min mark.

Can you imagine Lindelof putting that performance in! Never… brilliant upgrade.

Another part of that is the communication. De Ligt and Maguire seem to have a much better understanding of each other then we ever saw between Linde and Maguire.
Very happy with our central defenders at the moment.

Was great, bit more backs to the wall type vibe from the game and played to his strengths. The trossard/net pic is beautiful.

He loves to defend, so does Maguire, and both work well together in that back 3.

I also like to see both him and Maguire step out a lot more to tackle, even if they are unsuccessful in doing so, they should still keep doing it and trust their partners at the back, we need 3 aggressive CBs that step out as well as defend deep.

Very happy with our central defenders at the moment.
There’s only so much communication can help when there’s only 1 player actually defending.

The few that wasn't rating him too highly might have second thoughts after his outstanding display today.
First time I've had an 'aha!' moment with him, as if that's the level he can perform at, the impression of him would be forced to change for people like me. That's the kind of performance that makes some of the fuss people were making about him make sense.

Speed of him getting back on the Arsenal counter. Amad great awareness too.

I noticed this at the time too.

Not sure if people remember when one of Amorims first training sessions leaked and it showed him making the players sprint back. Paying off clearly.

Excellent in the last 60 minutes or so (seemed to come into his own when we were down to 10 men). Probably his best display so far for the club and I loved the way he celebrated that goal-saving clearance. Really positive signs.

The primal scream at the the clearance is what you’re after. Passion plus talent is the perfect combination in my eyes.

Will be a fan favourite if he keeps it up. I feel he has been pretty solid for the most part but yesterday was top class.

Horror show?
Yeah don't get that idea either. He played quite well. The Gakpo goal was brilliant stuff by Cody and few would have stopped that. The handball was the only daft thing he did in that game in my opinion. It's also why it was so great to see the team moving as a defensive unit in yesterday's game. No one defender makes up for the defensive lapses of an entire team for the whole 90 mins.

Stay on Topic New
I've deleted almost a page of off topic chatter.

Stay on Topic folks, cheers.

Bounced back well after his Liverpool horror show.
feck me, he was part of a defence that contained one of the best attacks in Europe to one sublime finish and a penalty, in one of our most solid performances of the season. He could have done better for one of the goals (hard to blame for an instinctive accidental hand ball) but it was far from a horror show

Like his physicality, like his will to win and like his attitude.

And he’s not as slow as people said when we bought him.

He never was. There are videos of him beating Chiesa on a sprint drill for Juve and him sprinting against Mbappe. His acceleration might not be the best, but he was never slow.

he’s a great player. Like any defender, when he’s exposed he doesn’t look as good. Now we are building a base, building our new rules of defending as a team and adapting to this formation, he’s looking fantastic. Not a surprise. Class act

I've watched that video of that clearance about a dozen times. So good. His performance was fecking great. Really impressive. We'll be talking about that for a long time.
