Mats Hummels

Is Hummels relationship with Klopp that great that he would definitely follow him?

I think the relationship between them is very close indeed. Also, he is the perfect quarterback for his system. Nevertheless Mats stands for himself and will do what he believes is best for him.

I expect him to go to Real actually.

No, actually those two I've mentioned would be great buys for City as they would be for us, I see nothing :rolleyes:worthy really.

Reus to Real....that means another top class talent joining Isco on their bench?

City have just spent £32m on Mangala and £30m on Bony. They can't increase their wages and will have to sell/shift players off the wage book before they could think about Hummels.

If they get rid of Dzeko, Nasri and Milner it'd probably sort them out. And in each of their positions they have a couple of players and can promote youth teamers as squad options if they really needed to.

Or just go and follow Gary's advice.

While I actually agree with Gary in principle on FFP and City I think what he's forgetting to consider is that the Champions league is an invite only competition. They obviously have a criteria for entrance but all the teams involved still need to be invited to take part and Uefa can exclude team's if they want I.E the Turkish teams currently banned or English teams banned in the past. Should City decide to take them on it's very easy for Uefa to just say OK spend whatever you want domestically but you'll take no part in the Champions league.

City need Milner for the home grown quota and his contract expires at the end of this season so they'll get no fee for him. Can't see many top clubs interested in paying large fees for Nasri with his massive wages and generally cancerous nature. Dzeko would be a good buy for plenty of sides but if they sell him they'll have gone from Negredo/Dzeko as partners for Aguero to Bony/Jovetic. Which is a significant downgrade.

Ah true, homegrown. But again thats where the youth team players can come in. And I'm just talking about getting rid of their wages, the fees are a bonus

Aguero will continue to play alone up front so Bony will be the cover. I mean whether its Klopp or any other manager, they wont play 2 proper strikers like that. Jovetic can play from wide although its not ideal, its another reason why they could let Nasri and Milner go

Mangala was £42 million

What's the gist?
3 pieces i found imteresting in that article, because i've seen it the same way:

"...In the 2012 Euro HF, Hummels opened Cassano the way towards the Goal by opening the "inner line", which is a rookie mistake... ...by this, he repeated his mistake from the Netherlands game, where he did the same with van Persie, both times leaving Badstuber Standing in the rain..."
"..also in the WC 2014 he wasn't error-free.. ..he did win a lot of tackles and scored 2 Goals, yet in the Finale, Boateng was better. Hummels strggled with Messi, as many do, but also completely misjudged a dangerous cross in extra-time, something which would never happen to the likes of John Terry..."

"Hummels receives top marks because of the way defenders are judged in Germany. The Basics of defending, like positioning, blocking of pass paths, "invisible" defending, smart movement, are generally underrated. What draws Attention are the exceptional deeds and improvisations, spectacular tackles, the last second clearance. Hummels is very good at those.."

He's got nothin on Subotic....who apparently received Germ-English lessons from Owen Hargreaves.

I thought Subotic was American? Just checked on Wiki, yep, he relocated there with his family in his younger years.

Even though I think they play better with him alone City have played a large portion of their games with 2 strikers for a long time. Saying they won't play with 2 strikers is pure speculation.

Mangala was £42 million

Almost every report I've seen had the fee at £32m. Who is claiming it was £42m?

So everyone who actually watches Hummels week in week out, from posers on here like @Balu to journos in Germany have all commented that he's not as good as he's made out to be/his reputation would have you believe, yet fan boys on here laugh at anyone who dare to suggest that he might not actually be the 'world class' defender that we need or that Smalling might have actually out performed him recently.

To me, its quite obvious who the people are that rate the lad purely on his fifa/football manager ratings.

One or two reports after the deal was concluded indicated there were further payments freeing him from 3rd party ownership or some such that were not reported at the time of his signing.
I cant link them personally, but others have linked them on the forum before.

He's not exactly bad, but probably not as good as some think. If anyone thinks he's going to walk in and become Vidic circa 2008, they may be in for a disappointment.

I think that probably sums it up pretty well tbh.

Subotic is shite.

Hummels has completely lost faith in Subotic hence his own dip in form. The lad is trying to hold that back line together by himself.

So let's hope it keeps dipping :D Price gone down to 40m euros(£29m) now in the latest Hummels talk in Germany.

On the way down to that magical £25m Lallana price...

To be more precise, he plays like a world class centreback when he is far from his last injury, but that's a rare occurrence.

£70m on Managala and Bony. Whoever is managing City's transfers needs a contract extension.
I believe it is the guy who brought Chygrinsky to Barcelona for £35 million or whatever it was. Think they were also responsible for Ibrahimovic to Barca for £45m + Eto

Yeah 3rd party ownership seems to make it much more difficult to get exact numbers on what a club spends, thankfully it'll be done with soon.

@goin4glory

The arrival of Bony takes City’s spending during the winter and summer windows to £83million, with the full fee for Porto defender Eliaquim Mangala now being confirmed as £42million, rather than the £32m reported by the club at the time of his arrival.

Thanks. Ogden is usually pretty clued in on both Manchester clubs. It makes the deal look far worse since he's not worth that amount and the higher fee will actually hinder them more going forward and makes Hummels less likely should Klopp go to City.

I wish everyone who disagreed with me based their opinions on FIFA/FM, it would make winning arguments so much easier. :(

Anyway, I wouldn't necessarily value the opinions of journos in Germany all that highly either. You should ask @Balu about the way they've treated a great player like Schweinsteiger over the years, they sound like a fair bunch of dickheads. If you listened to them he'd probably have sounded like a waste of money too.

As for Hummels, he certainly has his flaws and has had a fairly mediocre season by all accounts. Thing is though, he doesn't actually need to be "world class" to be an upgrade on what we currently have. He also fits our playing style and would bring leadership and top level experience to our back four. Given the shortage of quality CBs around that's about as high end as we're gonna get.

They have played 14 matches with 2 strikers, 18 matches with 1 striker. Most of the dual striker matches were in the first section of the season. I meant that they'd continue to play with 1 striker more often than not, of course it wont be zero games with 2 strikers, but it wont be often. And when it is two strikers? They spent £30 million on Bony so they must believe that he'll do as well as Dzeko has done in the past

Hummels is really struggling this season. Nearly no one in Germany would disagree. The argument, that the whole Dortmund team is in a crisis, is right, but doesn't explain why Hummels is making again and again bad individual errors leading to goals. He is not suffering under the crisis - his (non-existing) shape is also a reason for it.

My critique is even harsher, because I think he had his peak a few years ago. He was not convincing last season neither for example. I also think that he was not the main figure in Germany's defence at the World Cup. He had a few good scenes, but Boateng was the man in charge. And sometimes I even doubt if he is really 100% fit. At the World Cup he looked for example much more tired after 60 minutes than his colleagues. And he is slowier than for example Boateng.

However, the thing is... I like him. As a player and as person (- as far as you can judge a person you only know via interviews.) I am not sure about the right english word, but his "opening of the game" can be the best you will see. And I totally trust Van Gaal's scouting skills. When he is willing to pay that large sum he must be convinced that he can make Hummels to the defender he was for example in his glorious season 2010/11.
