Mats Hummels

After reading this thread it can be seen that Hummels is slow, a poor leader, has attitude problems, is in terrible form and is the main reason why Dortmund is underperforming. Sounds worse than Titus Bramble .

I actually still rate him and often defended him in the past. I hope he moves to United, because van Gaal might be exactly the type of coach he needs at the moment, someone who gives him more direction and takes away some of the freedom he enjoys a bit too much at Dortmund. I also think that a new challenge might force him to focus again on the game. I hope he'll be a fantastic centerback for Germany next to Boateng for many years, because they're an excellent complementary pair.

However, he sure as hell doesn't deserve a lot of credit for his leadership after this season.

I agree on him and Boateng, the word seems to be overused this season but they do provide a perfect balance at CB, I imagine LvG would be hoping either Jones or Smalling can do the same with him at United.

I don't think his interviews have been the wisest but he seems to have been under intense scrutiny and I do wonder if there is a pressure within Dortmund for him to go so they can get the cash as Klopp needs to rebuild that team IMO.

That's that then.
Especially since his composed playing style complements what we already have, as some of the Dutch posters more familiar with Van Gaal's tendencies have alluded to. He might be the final piece in the defensive jigsaw.

That much is beyond question, his ability on the ball would fit right in and fix a lot of our problems when the defenders receive the ball. How many times was your heart in your mouth on Sunday? I know I was screaming at the screen hoping the midfielders would not pass the ball back into defence and winced whenever De Gea took the short option.

What we can hope is that he will grow into the role and perhaps these reported issues will not resurface whilst at Utd. I have not heard about this before this season (although I haven't been keeping real close eyes on it, tbf).

If these discussions are really happening, his dip in form might be due to his head just not being there and already being at Old Trafford. It could also mean that he's doing a Sneijder.

Could be also a bit of Klopp's incompetence. We know recently things got out of control in his club but that can be a speculation as well.

First Cocu, now Klopp... All openly admitting things maybe because to get some interest from other clubs to raise the price for United ?

Something may happen...

I'm convinced this and Depay are both pretty much done.

We will act early this transfer window to get people in and get them used to playing for LvG.

Quite outstanding... that was posted a few weeks ago I think.

Holy shit... Is English a national language in Germany? Are most Germans this good or is he just abnormal? Because I know a few Germans and their English definitely isn't as good as this, so I expected his English to be pretty poor.

He's got nothin on Subotic....who apparently received Germ-English lessons from Owen Hargreaves.

I think that's really the aim with a much earlier Pre-Season start and so Van Gaal can finally get a holiday since working from the World Cup non stop.

I really don't get the notion that Rojo would be the one sacrificed in the starting lineup if Hummels came.
For me it would be Rojo - Hummels.

His left footed and Smalling has probably been our best center back lately. Hence the assumption he will replace Rojo.

Hummels is a right-footed CB from what I can remember.

He just plays on the left, which can easily be changed to the right-side with a left-footed CB next to him.

My bad then. I thought he was left footed. Still, Smalling has been very good for us and we would need his pace to make up for Hummels slowness especially with the high line we play.

I think Smalling & Jones have good potential defensively and could be great to use (especially smalling for his height);
But Rojo is our best CB in my opinion, and LVG wants a left-footed CB along with a right-footed CB unless it worsens the team. He likes ball-playing defenders.
Rojo is a ball-playing, fast (covering) CB. People talk about Jones & Smallings pace as their biggest asset as to why one of them should play together with Hummels, but Rojo is far from slow and would do that job well enough (and should at least be given the chance).

I'm not going to claim that it is English hype, because to me, it's miner differences between Jones, Smalling & Rojo, i just rate Rojos consistency (which is weird considering I faintly remember some of our Portuguese posters saying he could be everything from the most hot-headed shit CB in the world to a unplayable CB).
I'm just saying that I've found very little reasoning behind how few actually have said "Rojo - Hummels" as a potential partnership.

Rambling a bit because of the morphine, as usual, but I'm not trying to argue against any of yours points and decision, just my impression of how few sees Rojo as a viable partner for Hummels.

Correct, I feel strongly that The deals for depay and hummels are done.
Veratti would be my #1 pick for cm, but gundogan for £15m is a steal of a deal.

Gundogan-carrick-Herrera would be a midfield that can challenge for both the league and the champions league.

We may need to find signing also for Carrick who'll hit 34 in few months but definitely agreed on this setup.

Lots of balance and creativity. Carrick still can be one hell of a midfield general.

Sounds like this is pretty much done. As for who he will partner, form usually decides these things. And we need options at the back.

That's Depay and Hummels sorted

On to the Pogba, Bale, new RB and new striker threads.

Think him and Smalling would work well, Smalling is good in the air, has pace and is starting to bomb forward a lot this year where as Hummels is solid in the air, defensively and is like a CB version of Scholes for passing.

That's leadership, defending, height/heading, pace, composure/calmness and play making all covered, which is in theory a winning recipe for a CB pairing.

Hummels/Smalling/Jones/Rojo

All of a sudden that's our CBs sorted for at least the next 5 years.

At LB we've got Shaw/Blind/Rojo and Young for emergencies. Now we just need the right side sorted.
