Just like Rashford - both are centre forwards needing to start at as wider forwards in partnership rather than wingers.

It gets them an angle to their finishing.

Ole has managed his transition into first team football really well. I know earlier in the season people complained about how he only got 10 mins at the end of games. You can tell he is adapting to the mens game

How much did we pay for this wonderkid?

He was great in the second half but he needs to stop being so timid. He often turns back and plays a safe pass instead of trying to go forward.

Can't blame him for that, he rarely gets this kind of opportunity and you don't want to appear too selfish or daring so you get your next shot sooner rather than later. He's going to get more comfortable and try more things in time. What an impact he had though, even if he did play it safe.

What are you talking about. They're both strikers and that's where they should develop ideally.

Greenwood playing from the left is just a part of his development process but ultimately his main position is as a striker.

Haaland nor Greenwood won't be playing down the middle and from the left respectively because Martial and Rashford play in those areas. Greenwood right now as a young striker get game times through the left but he's first choice backup after Martial in that striker role when team rotate.

A scenario where there is Haaland and Greenwood and both come out of it alright having developed into top players isn't possible. All 3 front positions are already covered and Greenwood is the young striker already. Bringing in another young striker of similar age just doesn't make sense nor would help one of them.
You can't seriously be making the point that because they are both 'strikers' they play in the same position? I suppose we can't play Martial and Rashford together either. Take a cursory look at the goals Greenwood scores and tell me he's a central striker. Even today how often did we see him cut in from wide? He literally scored doing just that.

You mean like Rashford was playing from the left as part of his development to be a central striker?

Marital is far from irreplaceable and having competition for someone who doesn't find it necessary to work hard for the team is nothing but a positive thing.

Doing okay

Was mega impressed tonight... he’s so young but you can see a genuine world class talent.

The way he receives the ball and turns is truly special.

RVP comparisons are spot on.. the body language is exactly the same also!

Van Persie was a much better header of the ball. That said, having similarities with RVP in other areas at 18 is actually a good thing

Greenwood will play most of his football as a wide forward for the next couple of years. He will likely rotate with James whilst also having the ability to play up front if needed.

Having barely turned 18 and still getting stronger it makes absolutely no sense trying to play him down the middle and expecting him to battle it out with PL centre halves every week. Everyone compares him to Van Persie. Van Persie was a winger and then a false 9 only becoming an typical centre forward in his late 20s. It's normal progression for a player of that style. Greenwood may well find that his best position turns out to be a false 9 or wide forward. We've had this already with Rashford apparently needing to be a #9. Let's not do it again.

Should we sign Haaland we'd have a nice set of options imo.

If I have calculated correctly - Wayne Rooney reached 37 goals when he turned 20. I really believe Greenwood won't be too far away in october 2021 when he turns 20.

His first touch, technique, passing, vision and composure are just incredible for his age. So clever and mature.

Wish I could dig out some of the responses to when I was predicting this sort of thing around the start of 2019. People were acting like I was some sort of lunatic hyping up the next flop. Sometimes players are just genuinely so good that it is obvious they will make it. Greenwood is in that category.

Think I made similar claims. Started watching our youth teams because of the hype he got. Only a matter of getting used to the higher tempo. He almost always places his shots with power, the best and most difficult way to do it! Really started to get excited when he was moved around the forward positions, showed that he has it all.

I actually had a look back into last seasons thread for the craic. Some of the abuse Rashford was getting was fecking ridiculous.

One post literally started "Rashford is technically and intellectually primative"

No its not. They're both around the same age and it wouldn't work out without hampering the development of one. Remember there is already Martial as first choice striker who himself is young, you then can't have 2 promising talent as backup if you want to develop them.

You simply can't have it both ways, it's doesn't work like that. You put in 2 very young strikers competing to break through and they'll be impeded.
If they are good enough they will make it, never fear competition. All the great players have break through even when they have tough competition, that makes them push harder, if anything that would be beneficial for both of them.

Messi broke through a very tough barca team, same as Ronaldo to name a few of the best.

4-4-2 all 4 starting with Fretominay behind.

Wow you're really going with that eh? I thought the general consensus here was McFred

A lot of RVP's striker instincts was refined during his mid to late twenties though. The thing that they are very similar in is the balance and technical ability. That can only bode well because those are solid foundations to build from.

Greenwood still has a lot of physical maturing so it'll be interesting to see how that impacts his game. I know he's fast in the under 18s but it doesn't seem like he might have the kind of natural pace that Rashford has.

Maybe eventually he'll be a 18 yard box type of striker. Comfortable in pockets of space outside the box but deadly in the penalty area.

It’s been a weird trend for a while now. The rule is: you praise one of our players while shitting on another. Conversely you can just bash one and hold the praise.

It's like he always knows where the goalkeepers body weight is going. Outstanding finisher.

Natural born... the speed or timing of when he takes on shots can’t be a coincidence. He seems to take them on so early. Not really seeing the comparison with RVP myself as I haven’t seen as much technical ability as RVP had.

Sensational 2nd half. Two superb finishes for his goals. Won the penalty. Created chances for Martial in the 2nd half and Mata in the first.

Hope Mason has now established himself as the player who comes into the team whenever any of the front 3 are out.

Took his chances very well and it's hard to complain but would like to see him get a lot more involved. He's there to hurt the opposition but goes missing for long periods. Still though, a good prospect who may become a star player here.

6 goals already this season is a fabulous return for him, and I don't think we've really even seen him on top form yet either. We've got a very exciting player on our hands, and credit to Ole for giving him chances.

For those who've watched him a lot in the reserves and youth teams, where do you see his position?

is it me or does his left foot striking look so smooth and clean. Seems a natural talent. Im impressed
