They'd get tired soon when Rashford and Martial have taken turns at them.Double marked whenever he got some space. Didn't see any room for him to shoot today, maybe instructions are been made to handle him.
This is a new challenge for him.

I hope he continues working in the gym and comes back even stronger next season. The coaches also need to work with him anticipating and overcoming physicality. It's obvious that in the past two games he has been targeted and roughed up by opposition and it has worked for them. After he is kicked and tussled in the beginning of each game he became more timid and that put him out of sync. Of course, not hitting the ball as well as he could made a huge difference too. In both games he mishit with his left and could've got a goal but alas..He's still a child.
He doesn't know how to force himself into a game when grown men on the other side are trying to stop him from doing so. This is the one of those speedbumps that every wonderkid runs into in their first season. It's the downside of making a name for yourself. He'll get over it sooner rather than later.

Pretty much this. A fresh Greenwood coming off the bench when we're chasing the game, or even a goal or two up, is going to be horrible for the opposition to deal with. And if he plays his way back into the starting XI, so be it. The best kind of problem to have really.Goes back to the point of having a strong option off the bench. If United need a goal or need to keep an edge going forward, he can be the main man coming off the bench. He's not ready to start week in, week out. Right now he's the best option because scoring goals is needed and United can't take anything for granted up front. With that, he's going to have to navigate and learn out there on the pitch in how to make contributions to the team if he's not able to get shots towards goal. Make those runs, be available for passes, drag defenders out of shape, be ready for a rebound or deflection/anticipation, etc.
He's learning to be a better all round player already, and that includes taking some heavy challenges like he did again today. Plus, he's got to be more prepared to shoot as he scuffed his one and only chance today. At least put it on target but he completely miss hit it and it spun out for a goal kick.
The problem with him sitting games out now though is the drop in quality with whomever replaces him is so noticeable now
This is precisely why we need Sancho
I don't understand why Ole is starting him in all games.Would help to use him as an impact sub.He needs rest as an 18 year old. Too many minutes for him recently.
That said, Mason has done absolutely great this season, and Ole has done great for bringing him in and trusting him.
This sort of game was to be expected. Hes 18 so theres gonna be quite some dips along with the highs.
Hoping he rests vs Chelsea and then comes in vs West Ham (reckon he can get a goal in that game).
Clearly afraid to get into more physical duels last night. That Southampton match has left it's mark on him, it's something he has to learn to cope with, and will do.
Agreed. Due to his age, Greenwood struggles to impose himself sometimes so I feel he's more suited to playing against weaker opponents where we'll dominate possession and feed him the ball higher up the pitch.
Plus he 's a good option off the bench against Chelsea if we're chasing a goal.
No and never. This kid is special. Is he the new Welbeck yet?
Seriously though, he’s 18 got to expect quieter nights. Palace always looked nervous and tried to surround him anytime the ball came to him within 30 yards of goal. Expect a big gamevs Chelsea from this kid.
Tbh I don't mind the kicking. All young stars get that until they learn how to deal with. Especially in the PL. However I'm not ok at all with the ones like Romeu. He intentionally wanted to injure him. That's unacceptable and agree Ole or someone should have a word or two publicly.Yesterday they were kicking him all over the pitch. Hope Ole publicly complain about refrees ignoring nasty fouls on 18 year old.
Pretty much this.If he is double marked, whilst his own performances might take a dip - that’s still a valuable contribution to the side tactically as he is opening up spaces for his colleagues to take advantage.
IMO all of our forwards and even our two advanced midfielders all need to be double marked at times!

Imo Ole knew that Greenwood was not 100 %. No swollen ankle got healed completely in 3 days. Teams now all know how dangerous he is and the only way to deal with such danger is double marked him and kicking him. Imo Ole just put him there for this effect mostly. Same with the Sou match, Rashford and Martial and Bruno got quite some space on the left last match.
Agree with this. That challenge on him against Southampton was a 'reducer' to knock his confidence in the game. It's also clear that defenders are now paying special attention to him. He barely got a shot off in either game. Two big learning games for him.
He's injured and playing through it. He pulled out of nearly every tackle and was definitely off last night. Jesse did well as his replacement hopefully this allows us to rest Mason a little. Jesse to start on Sunday wouldn't be a bad thing in the long run.
I really hope he isn't a bottler and scared of physicality. Gary neville said when they used to play arsenal they targeted reyes quite a bit and he ended up bottling it.He's injured and playing through it. And we need income to have options. You need options , you’re dillusonal if you think otherwise
What a strange strange reply. And we need income to have options.
You gonna provide it?
Greenwood does not even need to play the next 3 games. Ole the clown will keep playing him though likd he got Rashford injured before lockdown. Play Ighalo, take Greenwood out. There's always next season for GreenwoodIt's clear teams are double marking him now. He will need to learn to deal with the added attention. There were a couple times where he would normally get a shot off but he had more attention than he would normally have. But even then he spooned 2 chances so still involved.
Got a lot of stick for saying we should start someone else over Greenwood in the match day thread and Southampton completely nullified him.
Don't think he should start vs Chelsea given their threat down that side. Maybe start James or Lingard (if we don't go 3_5_2) and then bring on Greenwood when they're tiring.
He's a fantastic player but he still needs to be used sparingly wherever possible.
