Frank De Boer:
"He should come to Ajax. He'll get plenty of chances here."

What say you, Caf? Is it the right choice? Or should he aim even higher, despite being just a kid?

I think it seems like a good decision. Ajax aim to produce players who break through as stars between the age of 21 and 25. That would give Ødegaard 5 years minimum. I think he'll succeed, easily. The key is to not get complacent during those 5 years.
I've already said that a few weeks ago. Ajax is 100% the best club for him if he leaves Strømsgodset

He could definitely do a better job at progressing at Ajax than he would at one of the absolute top clubs.

Depends just how money hungry he is/his advisors are.

I think he views his next club as a step up from the Norwegian league, but also a club that can give him plenty of playing time. It's all about developing for him. That's why I doubt he goes to a big club from the top 3 leagues.

Ajax would be an excellent choice for him. The Dutch league is stil physical, but values flair and technique, if you're good enough you're old enough, and he'll even have his chance to show off on the European stage.

I'd hate to see him go to Barca, Real, City, Chelsea, or even to United where I don't believe he'd see first team football for quite some time, if at all. If he does choice a big-hitter and succeed, I'll gladly eat my words.

I actually can't think of a more suitable club for him to go to than Ajax. Would be a brilliant move for him

His father/agent/advisor visited Barca this week.. Guessing we'll get a visit of him in the upcoming month(s) as well.

Barcelona can't sign him before 2016. Not sure he'll wait till that long before moving.

There are clubs in the top 3 leagues that would develop him, but without consistent Champions league to offer. Teams like Sevilla (2 loanees in their front 4 in Denis Suarez and Delofeu), Real Sociedad, Southampton, Everton, Swansea, Borussia MGBD (not spelling that one right) and Mainz all have developed very good young players recently, play attractive football but still have squads where it would be easy to see a talented AM/Winger get a lot of time beating out a decent veteran (Stephen Davis, Routledge, Vitolo) and being first choice damn near right away.

But yeah, Ajax is basically always a fine choice for a young player.

Ajax to continue his development for a few years before off to a bigger club would be the best move for him.

No nothing about the lad bar he's had a few full caps at the age of 15 but I think Ajax would be the best bet for him, can't argue with their youth system.

Because Everton isn't winning the league every year, has pretty bad academy, squad shortages, their manager is Catalan as Deulofeu. None of this is satisfied by Ajax.

Enough?

Nah.Not Ajax's level but one of the top in England.

Because we can buy him later? Pretty obvious. Also he's not very young.

So? Odegaard is probably good enough to get into the Ajax XI so why wouldn't they play him. Fischer and Eriksen were both in the Ajax side at 16/17 so no reason why Odegaard can't do similar. Why would Ajax bother taking him on loan if they don't intend to play him?

Arrived a bit late here, but the point being made is that Ajax isn't a typical club that uses loaned young-players and develops them, they would much rather spend time, money and energy on an asset they have under their own contract instead of another clubs, so they get to reap what they sow when it comes to playing a young player who most likely will need time and help to adjust to a new lifestyle, playstyle and league altogether and then develops and grows in value.

It's not a certainty that Ødegaard on current abilities would get a starting spot at Ajax at all, so why would they work hard to develop him for someone else?
When it comes to the Falcao loan comments, we're looking to buy Falcao, and he is a world class player in a position we would need to strengthen when Chicharito wanted to move/couldn't produce, Welbeck didn't produce goals and Wilson was still unproven for a 3rd choice behind RvP who is often injured.
Falcao on quality alone could be argued our best striker, so there are reasoning for our loan with option to buy deal. It would be far from the same for Ajax.

How stupid can they(father and son) get? Yeah, he'll be in the first team squad. And never play.

How many talents have ruined/stagnated their career in Real Madrid over the last 15 years? Big mistake, Martin. BIG mistake.

The only case for going to Madrid is that they have a small enough squad that he might get cup games and such:

----Benzema----- (Hernandez)
Ronaldo-James-Bale (Isco, Jese)
--Modric--Kroos-- (Khedira, Illaramendi)

So he would probably be 8th choice for 4 spots in most games, which isn't great but isn't outright horrific either.

He will only feature on the wing or behind the striker(his best position). So wouldn't that make him 5th choice for 3 spots(or 6th choice, seeing as Kroos could play AM)?

Regardless, he'll never play start a La Liga or CL game, unless 4-5 attacking players are injured at the same time. That's not good enough if he wants to improve.

He isn't gonna get regular game time at any top club at his age, he'll be loaned out if he joins Madrid.

The same could be said of any big club in recent seasons to be fair and is extremely reliant on individual circumstances. Varane as an example went to Madrid at 18 and has progressed every year. Might be an exception to the rule, but so can Odegaard if he exhibits a good level of play. He would certainly learn a lot from the likes of Ronaldo, Bale and co. That said I do agree with the view that Ajax, PSV or a Bundesliga club would be the ideal environment for a young lad like him.

If halalovic cant get in to barca then how is this going to work at madrid who are a better team currently.

Literally the last team on the planet he should join. Would completely stall his development. Him and his father need their head's checked if they think he will figure in the first team there at 15/16.

He should go to Ajax, who cares about the reception they got. He should take the next step, going to Real could work, but the probability for that is pretty low. Of course the possibility of joining Real is a big dream for everyone, but if he is good enough, he will end up there sooner or later.
