Martin Ødegaard

Leaving my frustration aside, I don't really blame Ødegaard Jr for wanting to go to Real. He's a 15 year old child prodigy, after all. Can you even imagine being in your first year of high school in a country that struggles to make FIFA's top 50 ranking, and then become approached by every top team in the world? Your confidence level would be off the charts! Now, combine this with the winner instinct that brought you so far in the first place and the delusional confidence that only a high school boy can have, and you're pretty much bound to make some questionable decisions. Real comes knocking? Hah, you can totally make the first team. Ronaldo isn't that much better than you, right?

No, the only one to blame for this move if it happens, is the father(who seems to be in charge of everything). He ought to know better.

They are just saying he is wanted there, not that he is going there according to media in norway.

People jumping the gun a bit. Might be that this is close to being sealed, but it could just as easily just be a visit. There would have to be some serious assurances and possibly even clauses before he's committing to them.

Him being on the lips of a great deal of the European football press might mean he's enough of a kind of Galactico that he'd see minutes regularly... At the same time it's hard to imagine him being regularly preferred to the likes of Isco or Rodriguez, let alone Ronaldo or Bale.

I imagine he is getting the full zidane treatment
If he goes I assume it will be to the castilla side for a year or two to ensure he gets games and a less preassured environment to develop

His father said that they would visit the clubs who are interested to check them out. If Madrid are willing to charter a private jet and fly him and his father over for a look around why shouldnt they go it doesnt mean he will sign for them. Robbie Brady and his father were brought to the 2007 Champions League final by Liverpool and told them at the end of the game that he was joining United.

His father said that they would visit the clubs who are interested to check them out..

Going to visit once? Sure, that means very little. Going for a second visit? Surely they are at least considering it then. If they knew they wouldn't take the offer, then I don't think they'd go.

Not really often young players will visit teams 5 or 6 times he's already been over to United twice

 That's brilliant. I love Brady even more now.

If he chooses Madrid then it is solely because his father was impressed with the spanish birds floating around upon their visit

 I heard that story before. Apparently he is a die-hard united fan.

When was the last time he was over do you know? I had heard he had been over to Carrington more than once alright.

Last December as far as I know but could be wrong

So many clubs are telling he's been around, I don't give a shit anymore. Let's have a cup of tea and wait for his decision in january.

There's so much hype, my bet is that he will become the next Adu. It's ridicoulus right now.

I'll take that bet!

Dude's got so much more footballing maturity than I've seen Adu shown... barring injuries I am dead sure of him becoming a force to be reckoned with. Might not be Ronaldo/Messi/Robbenesque, but he'll be damn good.

What is his game like ?

Yeah but Adu (allegedly) had several years more actual maturity

I don't know, I didn't get exposed to so much of the journalism, interviews and match footage as I have of Ødegaard, but what I did see didn't seem to surpass him.

Might as well quote Bob Bradley, who is currently managing Stabæk in Norway:

The similarity between Martin and Fredddy is the attention they have received at such a young age. Still, I think that Martin Ødegaard has established himself more as a player in the Tippeliga than what Freddy Adu had done at the same age when he was playing in the MLS.
It's always important that the attention is controlled. That the players get time and space to develop themselves. Martin Ødegaard is a big talent for Norway. I think that for being at that age he has a brilliant footballing brain, and a great talent.

Anyway, time will tell. But what I saw of Adu was somewhat short of what this kid shows *shrug*

What is his game like ?

The videos posted in this thread display his contributions pretty well. He's fleet-footed, carries the ball really well at speed, has technique that makes me think Spanish rather than Norwegian, and for his age is exceptional at releasing a ball in a well-timed way with good weight on it.

Not going to be the biggest influence in defensive work, but is showing that he's willing to get stuck in and to learn that part too.

Hijacking this one would be a serious sign of intent. Real were all too happy to part with Di Maria, lets get CL and bring this kid in and show that we really have the pulling power

I hope we don't get him as long as he ends up at Bayern or Real. I'd rather use the kids that we already have at the academy in Ibe (aadmittedly on loan), Kent, Wilson, Ojo and Branagan.

When was the last time you lot produced a talented youth? Sterling doesn't count.

#BVB

First tweet quotes him with [about playing in Bundesliga:] "that's absolutely conceivable"
Second tweet quotes him with "Klopp introduced me to BVB personally and told me about what the club can offer me"
Third tweet says that according to SportBild the player started getting German lessons, but a transfer during this winter isn't likely.

So he's going to join Bayern then.

To be fair a move to BVB or Ajax would do him the world of good.

Ajax haven't had the best record with their last few wonderkids though - Eriksen, Fischer, etc. They all seemed to stagnate a bit. Maybe that was because their talent was overhyped though.

There was a point where Eriksen was ranked alongside Gotze, Neymar and Hazard (+ Lucas) as one of the best young players in the world. Fischer also afterwards was seen as the next big thing.

Bit harsh on fisher
He was progressing very well but got injured in Feb and will be out for approx a year
At only 19 he had done very well (and only started his first game around 14 months before the injury in which time he played about 67 games scoring 19 from the wing and got 6 international caps)... It remains to be seen how good he will be when he comes back but up till the injury ajax seemed to be doing a very good job

Going to Dortmund only makes sense if he is sent out on loan immediately.

To the German posters: is there a team at the bottom half of the table who's in dire need of a no.10? Maybe he could get some playtime there?

Them quotes are 6 months old and inaccurate. He was talking about several big-name managers who had personally shown him around their respective clubs, including Moyes at United. And there's nothing in the Norwegian press about any German lessons, though - like tons of kids - he might be taking it in school. After all, it's the language of love.

thanks for the clarification

Can only imagine that Odegaard would have been sold on the idea of playing as a traditional winger under Moyes pumping long balls into the box. One wonders why he didn't join us immediately
